Media Blaster's Zombi 2 Dvd Speical Features

    from http://davisdvd.com/news/daily_news.html

Media Blasters/Shriek Show will release a 25th anniversary special edition of the Lucio Fulci seminal horror classic ZOMBI 2 (also known as ZOMBIE) on July 27th. Fully remastered in a new two-disc edition, the film will arrive with a 2.35 anamorphic widescreen transfer of the uncut version and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio (not specified is if this is the English dub or the original Italian). Bonus materials include an audio commentary track, over two hours of interviews with cast and crew (including effects artist Gianetto De Rossi), an extensive still photo gallery, poster reproduction inserts and trailers. Retail is $29.95. Oddly enough, another edition of the same film is being released on the same day from specialty distributor Blue Underground. This single-disc release is expected to feature an anamorphic transfer, trailers, TV & radio spots, poster and still galleries. Retail for this is $19.95.

Well, no new info there. I wonder who did the commentary?

Not me. I'm all over the Shriek Show, but once will be enough. Unless something stupid occurs, and the BU ends up being vastly superior, I see no point. I eagerly anticipate this one.

Unless there's a difference in transfer, which I doubt but don't rule out, I'll just be picking up the Shriek Show's release. I like Blue Underground plenty, but I'm not buying their release just for kicks, my money's better spent elsewhere.

  9. Any idea if it's the old Ian McCollugh (sp?) commentary, or a new one?

i dunno, i'm getting SO confused, they're MUST be some reason bu is also doing this title. Lustig must think his disc will have something to OFFER. He's gotta know that ten bucks savings is NOT gonna make his version the champ.

Nothing to be confused about, it's all well known - it's a right mix up, pure and simple.

SS is the one. No reason to be confused!

SS for me. I have been holding onto my old widescreen AB VHS until a good release, and this seems like the one for me.

  14. If the Blue Underground version has better picture quality, I will pick it up. Otherwise I am only going for the Shriek Show 2 disc edition.

Of course, with my luck, the BU version will look much nicer, so I will end up getting both of them.

Thank goodness the BU version is going to be fairly cheap!

I'll be picking up SS disc unless there are problems which would actually be normal for them so i'd be shocked if there were none.

I'll be surprised (but not too surprised) if Shriek Show's transfer is better than Blue Underground's. While SS's releases look good, BU's are always look better, judging from the titles I own. The transfer is the most important thing and while more extras are a tempting thing to have, no amount of them will coerce me into buying the SS DVD knowing there's a better one for less money. I'm just going to have to wait and read the reviews before I know which to get.

I'll wait to read comparison between the two release and will buy the one with the best transfer... if same transfer will buy SS for supplements :)

Funny, I've always felt SS discs look better than BU. :)
