View Full Version : Final Destination 2

I'm not a big fan of the teen oriented slasher flicks that SCREAM inspired, such as URBAN LEGEND, IKWYDLS, and DISTURBING BEHAVIOR, but the original FINAL DESTINATION was a standout in my opinion, and I really loved it (I also enjoyed CHERRY FALLS and VALENTINE, so sue me).

Anyhow, I was obviously looking forward to the sequel, and I saw it last night. Here are my thoughts:

Hot damn, this movie was an absolute blast! This is a more than worthy sequel!

I thought some parts of the mythos were as clever as the first one, but other parts weren't, and were quite confusing. This did not detract from my enjoyment of the film though, and unoriginal or not, this film is a hell of a ride! I also don't see why its considered a bad thing to have some humor in there, as I quite liked it and thought it helped balance out the film.

The car pile up at the beginning was just spectacular! I was in awe at how frickin' well done it was. It was just amazing, and I know I'll watch it over and over again when I get the DVD.

The death scenes were indeed outstanding, and I was wondering how this got away with a R rating! The airbag and barbwire scenes are the standouts, although all are stellar. Really grotesque and well done deaths that put the first film's deaths to shame. Also, ya just gotta love that ending with the grill!

I loved this sequel, and sorry to the naysayers, but I'm giving it **** out of ***** simply for the pure fun as hell time I had with it, the excellent job with the crash and deaths, the loads of truly thrilling thrills that had my adrenaline pumping hard, and the overall achievement of what it set out to do! The film is definitely flawed, but I got past them and had a killer time!

I was leery of seeing this, but maybe I should sneak into the theater and do a 2-for-1 today, seeing FD2 along with Darkness Falls. Its been so long since I've seen a horror film in theaters (last one was The Ring) that even though these two have the potential to suck, it could still make for a fun day at the movies.

i seen FD2 today and enjoyed it quite a bit. it's nice to see a mainstream film that doesn't hold back on the gore and violence (hell, it's the only R film at the theatres were i live!?!). I'm surprised a lot of it got by the MPAA! i'll never understand how they give out ratings. at any rate, i definately recommend the film! it was definately better than Darkness Falls.

the first post in this thread sums it all up,
the first "final destination" is impressive, and this sequel is even better than that,
try to watch this film while it is still popular because its better with a full audience, people actually gasp and shit to the death scenes,
and yeah the first 10 minutes or so with the highway pile-up is fucking brilliant, the direction while these people are driving is amazing, the camera weaves in and out of all these different cars so that we see and recognize everyone later when they die,
the gore is second only to "blade ii," i figgered that movie got an R because most of the gore was not human gore, but monster gore, but this movie just obliterates human beings, its cool when people blow up

Alright, I just saw FD2 an hour ago and I have to say.... it impressed me. Keep in mind, the story WAS a bit on the lame side ("Look out for the pigeons!!) and the acting was (as usual) sub-par. But the gore? Awesome. This movie had some of the coolest death scenes I've watched in a while. My favorite was the cokeheads death. Its a movie that I'd even consider getting on DVD, even more so since you know NL will give it the Platinum treatment.

I saw it opening night. I laughed, I winced, I yelped and jumped. Best horror movie I've seen in theaters since, gee, this may be a stretch here but 1995's Lord of Illusions. I didn't see American Psycho in theaters, otherwise I would've said that.

On another forum someone refered to this as the modern day Evil Dead 2. I'd be hard pressed to disagree.

I saw it last night. Folks, if you love gore, this is definitely the theatrical release for you. I don't remember the last time I saw a horror movie in which every death was shown in visceral detail, right to the very end. It was nothing short of stunning.

Unfortunately, the deaths were so well done that I'm now convinced we're going to see an edited DVD release, at least here in the States. FD2 reminded me of the gold age of 70's slasher films, when directors began focusing more on shock value with gorey deaths because the stories kept failing to bring in the audiences. FD2 absolutely delivers on the gore factor.

I'm a die-hard gore hound. FD2 was made for people like me.

I seriously doubt the DVD release would be cut. If anything, we may actually see alternate angles/extra gore.

I saw it last Friday and enjoyed it. Way better than the first one. I agree with Nyghtfall, the movie is sort of a throwback to old school horror movies in regards to the creative and gory deaths. I may even have to go see it again. Its no Evil Dead 2, but it is pretty sweet.

I hope New Line gives this gem as good or better DVD treatment than the first one, as while I love the first one, you could probably guess from my posts in this thread that I loved this one even more! Also, this is New Line, not Paramount, and I'm sure they won't edit the DVD at all, so don't worry about something like that. I saw this film for a third time today BTW, and I still want more!

I just saw this, and i have to agree....GORE galore i didnt go into the cinema expecting to really like FD2 because i didnt really dig the first movie, but i thought id give it a go regardless. Aside from the silly plot and numerous red herrings it was very good, the scene at the start was fantastic and then alot of the inventive deaths that followed were simply goretastic! the whole audience was gasping and screaming at the impact of most of the kills, it was a cool atmosphere! definately a popcorn flick, not too absorbing and totally fun.... IMO alot better than the first :D

I finally saw this last night and I gotta admit, I was impressed!!! I have not been to a horror movie in a long time where the audience shrieked, screamed, cheered, and clapped!!! Not only were the death scenes just INCREDIBLE, but they did a REALLY good job with the story and tying it to the first movie. I can't wait for the DVD because there's a few of those deaths that I realy want to freeze frame on!!!

Just saw it. I had a good time and the gore scenes were strong for an R rated film indeed. However, it was not that well directed as the first one. And something else:
Is CGI GORE good enough for you? Man, it doesn't get me. Not in the least. It's like watching a fuckin' video game. Bring Tom Savini back! Now!

Make no mistake about it, I like latex and karo syprup so much more than CGI, but if it looks neat then it's ok by me, I just hate when they overuse CGI, but I do hope there will be a ressurection of traditional gore in mainstream films. That is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to both Cabin Fever and House of 1K Corpses.

you cannot tell me that that whole highway scene was NOT well-directed man, the way the camera swoops in and out of the cars, how the audience can see and recognize everyone affected by the crash before it happens, i really, really enjoyed those first 15 minutes or so, the rest of the film was almost as good,
about the CGI gore, its obvious where film special effects are headed, and as long as the gore keeps looking more and more realistic, like this film, and of course the amazing gore effects in "blade 2" i really dont care, i like the true physical effects, but when i cant tell the difference i wont give a shit which of the 2 it is

thrashard76
03-27-2003, 08:52 AM
CGI is a cool idea for certain shots like atmosphere or distant effects but when you base a whole movie on it, it gets real old real fast. With CGI being around so much now, one can only hope that the general public will get their fill of it and move on. In this case revert back to a more traditional means of FX such as make-up artists and special effects appliances.

This movie was alright (and the gore was impresive, IMO) but it was just another vehicle with pretty guys and gals that serve no purpose than to meet some demise in one form or another. Call me jaded, but when I sit down I want surprises. This has all been done before (and much better I might add), there are just way to many contrivances in this film for me to sit still long enough.

yeah i have to agree, specially that fence slice scene where the intestines fell out, looked too tidy... although the film was hugely gorey i would have much preferred some good old fashion gore like from day of the dead or even last house on the left...

out of curiousity, is R the harshest rating a movie can get in the cinema in the US? its R here too but final destination was rated M15+ which i cant believe, it was waaaay too gorey to send a 15 year old to in my books

so u guys can have unrated dvds but when it comes to cinema it a maximum of an R rating?

mcchrist
03-27-2003, 09:23 AM
yeah i have to agree, specially that fence slice scene where the intestines fell out, looked too tidy...

To be honest, I thought that was the one effect that worked IMO. The reason why it worked for me is because it looked REAL, I'm not talking Italian blood-soaked, Savini effects real, but real-life real. The kind of shot you'd see at Rotten.com or something. Doesn't make the movie, IMO, but still pretty gnarly looking if you ask me.

FD2 was fun for me since all I expected was to see a few scenes of pretty guys and gals get killed in interesting ways. You're absolutely right in that there wasn't anything particularly original about the story, but I did like the fence scene - very unexpected. Its was "CGI-fun" - kinda like the demise of the lawyer at the beginning of Thirt3en Ghosts.
