Here's another attempt to keep our beloved Slasher forum afloat.
Cheerleader Camp, I don't think there's been a proper thread for it on here before, so here we go. I personally don't care for this one much, but the cover box drawing is too cool. Hot cheerleader body with winking skull face, hilarious. I actually own a copy of the video which is pretty rare, which is why I still own it. It makes me feel kinda special, in a sad sorta way.

I think this is one of those ones that tried to be funny and scary at the same time, but didn't really pull off either. But maybe that's me, I personally wanted to kill Leif Garret and that fat cheerleader guy. They really got on my nerves for some reason. So, any thoughts on this one?

i have the jap prerecord under the original title
of "bloody pom poms"

this is a fun film with a whole lot of tittys, and hot chicks
and a few nice gore moments.

it is like a slasher with comic overtones.

i wonder if a DVD is in the plans hmmmm....

Ah, this brings back memories!
Betsy Russell! Lucinda Dickey! Yummy!
Whatever happened to those chicks? Do they still act?

There used to be cool stuff on Saturday nights, like that and Monstervision w/ Joe Bob... It's sad to see that they all dissappeared.

I never knew there was a one-sheet issued for this film! I loved this film. Thought Betsy Russell was just the bomb-diggety back then.

I really like CHEERLEADER CAMP. It's the kind of slasher flick I could imagine John Waters would make.

Of course, this is one of those slasher flicks with the is it / isn't it real sequel, CHEERLEADER CAMP 2. Most people, including myself, think this is a bogus title, much like the old IMDB entries for the near legendary 'lost' early 80's slashers GORY GRADUATION and SUMMER HOUSE SLAUGHTER. The CC sequel was meant to have starred Uma Thurman (which makes it even more unlikely). Having said that, high flying Julianne - I'll do no tat - Moore, of THE HOURS fame, still has the similarly elusive SLAUGHTERHOUSE 2 on her IMDB resume, so who knows ...

Agree with the last post that it's pretty good. Has a few twists and turns along the way, and I enjoyed it. I have the original VHS issue and if it's released cheap enough on DVD I will probably buy it.

There's no question it's one of the highlights of the year as far as movies released on DVD goes. I have been excited about buying this movie ever since I heard it was coming out on DVD.

Man, I watched this one last night. I don't understand how anyone could not like it. Sure it's a film with its tongue planted very firmly in cheek, nothing wrong with that. Of course, it plays down the horror elements, but it does have over-the-top gore, and plenty of pretty things to look at.

Overall, I'd say it's just "fun", and there's nothing wrong with that. Nice DVD too.

Have you heard the audio commentary? The director defends the rap as cutting edge for its time.

....I'd agree if you forget all about Run DMC, Beastie Boys, NWA, Ice T and Public Enemy.

...its certainly more hardcore than Will Smith's stuff

I'm amazed that they'd think it's cutting edge though. I mean, maybe to some sheltered, suburban mom or something... :eek2:

I was also of the opinion that there was entirely too much jiggling, white MAN-ass happening, but that's another story.

You remind me that I oughta keep a list while it's still early in the year, before I have to go on a massive hunt again come December.

I think the film has as good of an opening 30 mins a horror comedy has ever had, sans perhaps Evil Dead 2. I wish they wouldn't have included the nightmare stuff, but as it stands, I love the flick very much. I picked it over Mark of the Devil on the last DDD sale as my last choice. I think it was a pretty good decision.

yeah I agree with the nightmare stuff. i thought that was used too much and bogged the film down a bit. Still a movie I enjoyed for the most part, but would have been better without a reference to her dreams every other second.

Well, two years later and revisited tonight. And yep, it's as much fun now as it was then. :)

Kind of puts me in the mood for a home slasher season. It has all the elements, and gets you going, yah know? Most of the murders get crammed into the final third of the film (which feels a bit odd for a slasher) but the whole thing is just way too much fun.

Fin way to round off an evenings viewing.
