Media Blasters has set a July 29 street date for one of their most- awaited DVD releases: Ryuhei Kitamura’s zombies-and-swords epic VERSUS. The release will be a two-disc set, with the first disc containing an anamorphic transfer with both subtitled and dubbed audio (including a DTS track), a Kitamura commentary in English and a cast commentary in subtitled Japanese. The second disc will feature a subtitled Japanese making-of featurette, a different English-language documentary, an interview with the editor, video clips from the movie’s premiere, three trailers and the NERVOUS mini-movie.

I've got a VCD of Versus that I'm looking forward to retiring for this DVD. Versus is a cool movie and I'd love to get my hands on this Media Blasters release.

Fuck yea. Now I dont have to spend $50 at poker industries to get the badass R2 edition. I just hope that this is the uncut version, but since it looks like MB is doing such a great job on the disc, I wouldnt doubt it.

hahaha this is my first time visiting the asian dvd forum.. funny that i found this thread here because i was about 5 minutes away from ordering this from xploitedcinema.com for like $58 + shipping! what a life saver

That sounds kickass. I'm really glad now that I didn't buy the expensive Japanese DVD. This really shoots to shit all the rumors that this would be a bare bones release.

This is a cool movie, but the all-region I got from yumyumanime is such good quality, it'll be a hard decision. The extras might make it worth while.

Although I do not remember where I read this, it was several months ago, news was that some scenes were being reshot for the US market as well as a some editing.

Media Blasters is showing Versus on the big screen at several locations this summer, along with some other great films. Check the schedule out at

I've never really checked the Asian forum before, but now that I'm here, I see all kinds of stuff that I want.

Wow, MSRP $34.95 for the SE. You'd think Criterion was releasing this.

05-16-2003, 06:40 PM
here's the best deal i've found,$20

05-16-2003, 06:51 PM
is there more then one version of Versus?

on that MB site, it says Versus- Directors Cut, Versus and Versus SE. I am just assuming that the SE will contain both versions of the movie if there is a difference... or at least i would hope so.

It looks like there's a fourth.. a tin.

"As if the recent announcement of not one but THREE different versions of 'Versus' coming the U.S. weren't enough (read it here), KFC Cinema is reporting that it's director, Ryuhei Kitumara, has already begun discussions about an "alternate cut" version and a sequel...

Legend Films interviewed Kitumara for the forthcoming tin edition of 'Versus' they're putting out, and he revealed he's planning on going back out this summer to do massivly-budgeted re-shoots for the original film. Essentially it will have a new beginning, end, a new showdown and lot more zombie gunfights. The budget for the re-shoots is going to be more than the film itself actually cost. Don't worry, he's not getting all George Lucas on us...he admits that the 'Versus' that's out is the way he intended it to be, but now he just wants to go back and add to because"he loves playing around with that stuff". Which means I'm sure both versions of the film will always be available.

For the sequel, still just titled 'Versus 2', he's planning on shooting in 2004. He just finished his latest film, 'Azumi', a few weeks ago, and he's still got work to do for the next Metal Gear Solid video game, 'Twin Snakes' for the Gamecube, as well as an English-language project with Miramax so...it might be long than that. No plot details were revealed as of yet, but I'm sure zombies, swordfights, and major gunplay will all be involved."

Is Media Blasters' 3 versions of Versus just a distribution for Legend Films? And will MB be distributing the tin when its available?

05-27-2003, 11:35 AM
Oh, goddamnit! They had to go and complicate everything for me!

06-14-2003, 08:10 AM
