I'm quite eager to see it also, but as long as I know that Lion's Gate plans to give it a nice R1 release, I can wait for it.

That's the original direct-to-video film, not the recent theatrical movie that everyone's been talking about.

Can someone please explain Ju-On the Grudge to me? I finally got a copy and watched it. Aside from some creepy moments, I didn't really "get it". I don't think I'm an Asian horror person. Everytime I finally track one down (with the exception of The Ring) and watch it, I'm very dissapointed. I have a copy of The Eye too, but haven't stuck it in the player yet. I have a feeling it'll be the same.

watch The Eye and get back to us...

I did watch the Eye, and like The Ring, feel it translates very well. I don't know about Ju-On. I just didn't totally get it.

I recently saw Ju-on 1 and 2 (TV movies) and Ju-on: The Grudge and enjoyed them all, even though Ju-on 2 started with over 1/2 hour of footage from part 1. Very creepy films and I'm glad to hear that the original director will do the US version. Hopefully, it will be just as freaky.

According to the latest issue of Video Store Magazine (Dec. 21-27, 2003), Sarah Michelle Geller is going to star in the US remake of Ju-on: The Grudge. Here's the relevant info from the article:

Sarah Michelle Gellar, most recently seen on the big screen in SCOOBY-DOO, will take on a more frightening role in her next starring gig as she is set to topline the horror remake THE GRUDGE. The project, being produced by Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures and distributed domestically by Columbia-Pictures, is an English Language version of the Japanese thriller JU-ON.

The film's title refers to a curse that befalls someone who dies in the grip of a powerful rage. Those who encounter this murderous supernatural curse die, and a new one is born - passed like a virus from victim to victim in an endless, growing chain of horror.

The project is being directed by the original's writer-director, Takashi Shimizu, from a script by Stephen Susco. Raimi is co-producing. A January start date is planned. The film will shoot in Tokyo at Toho Studios.

I've said in another forum and I'll say it here. I don't really like Gellar for the part. It's not fitting for her.

I wouldn't mind seeing Eliza Dushku in the role though. :)
