View Full Version : Favorite Euro Horror film?

I just wanted to know what everyone's favorite Euro Horror film was. Mine is Fulci's Zombie... that film, in my opinion, has everything and is his best work. Of course, my other faves are Deep Red, Suspiria, City of the Living Dead, The Beyond, Blood and Black Lace, and Twitch of the Death Nerve. Even though I cannot yet say it is my favorite, I have a deep interest in Franco's Virgin Among the Living Dead and am curious about his other work.

I never saw any of the ones you mentioned, Jeff. I do really want to see Female Vampire and House on the Edge of the park, though!

What is Viy?

I'd have to say THE BEYOND. And I think it's the first time I've definitively said it. Oh well, I'm sure it'll change. And there are way too many runner ups to even list.

Viy is a freaky Russian flick from the late 60's. I'll post a review about it this week. I am so glad they put this on DVD, that was one bootleg I never thought I'd get rid of.

Shit, That'd be Asian wouldn't it?

OK, I've changed my mind. My favorite eurohorror is:

Day of the Beast
Zombie
Tombs of the Blind Dead

DEEP RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! followed by Suspiria , Tenebre, City of The Living Dead and HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD:evil:

I really love Opera, for got to list it as one of my faves. I also love Demons, but it isn't one of my faves. Hell of the Living Dead is cool but I only like it based on camp value. I've never seen Tenebre, but desperately want to... I KNOW I will LOVE it!

Giallos and zombie films are probably my favorite kind of film, as you might have noticed. That is funny because my all-time favorite movie Carrie, which is totally American.

There are a lot of Euro horror films that I really want to see but haven't had the chance. I could name a million of them, but for the sake of space, I won't! :D :D :D

DEEP RED RULES! :fire: :fire: :fire:

hmmm i havent seen that many euro flicks so i cant really say, but one thing i will say is that i am yet to see a single euro flick that ill love straight away... they almost always need a good few hours/day to sink in for me to truely appreciate it... maybe a second viewing or a review or something..

suspiria was pretty cool, got lost a bit during it coz i couldnt hear what people were saying over the loud music.... zombie was ok too but it took a while to kick in... start was a bit slow

would lair of the white worm be classified as a euro flick? britain is in europe after all! :) if it is then thats probably one of my faves

Not that I've given it much thought, but I'll say Phenomena. I've spun that flick quite a few times. I mean, hell, Iron Maiden *and* Pleasence?

I forgot the cannibal films! I love Cannibal Ferox and Cannibal Apocalypse, Jungle Holocaust was alright but maybe not one of my faves. I did enjoy Zombie Holocaust, which is I guess a zombie/cannibal/slasher film. :glasses:

And yes, I would consider Lair of the White Worm as a Euro flick if it was made in Britain.

Speaking of Britain, does anyone here like the film Frightmare (1974)? I enjoyed it very much, although I can't say it is one of my faves.

I also really want to see Beyond the Darkness, I keep hearing all of these great things about it. Do you really think I should buy it?

Oh yeah, and I really want to see Cannibal Holocaust although I can't find it anywhere around here. I heard Image might be releasing it on DVD, although it's been delayed countless times... is there any hope?????

Here here, Mortis! Phenomena is my fav as well - even if I find myself popping in the truncated version *Creepers* a hell of a lot more - the 82 min. cut moves at a much swifter pace.

Others-

Tenebre
Opera
Cannibal Holocaust
Zombie
Demons
Cut & Run (horror, action-gore mish-mash, who cares)
House on the Edge of the Park
Buried Alive
Stage Fright
Burial Ground

And the inimitable PIECES!!!!

NickyDoyle
04-09-2003, 05:56 PM
Tenebre
DellaMorte DellaMore
Buio Omega
Black Sunday
Tombs of the Blind Dead
Andy Warhol's Frankenstein (well, half Euro)
Don't Torture a Duckling

And more to follow as I rent/buy more movies

My favorite without a doubt is my Beyond Tin. It is filled with extras and the movie itself is gorgeous! :eek1: I love ALL the extras on this release. A fine job from Grindhouse Releasing and AB. :D We're all still waiting on that Cannibal Holocaust SE Grindhouse...so how 'bout it?! :D

I'm just beginning to appreciate Gialo and Euro-Horror in general. I haven't seen too many of these intriguing films just yet, but those I have seen are most memorable. They are:

"What Have You Done To Solange?"
"Seven Blood Stained Orchids"
"Suspiria"
"Torso"
"Beyond The Darkness"
"Tenebre"
"Bird With The Crystal Plumage"

All of the above are excellent and I would have a hard time choosing which one to be a favorite currently. :p

Well, now I have to say I have two favorites and I don't like one more than the other. They are "Zombie" and "Deep Red"-- my two all-time favorite Euro horror films. They are both great and Deep Red, in my opinion, is so clever that it's ridiculous! Both excellent movies, and if you haven't seen them already you MUST SEE THEM ASAP!!! lol :D

My buddy rented Creepers a long time ago from some old video rental place. I was so happy to find out it was released on DVD as Phenomena.

Dude, it rocks! The visuals are on par with Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages, and its just so damn unnerving. One of the best purchases I've ever made.

"Viy" is a great movie but "scary as fuck" doesn't really describe it. It has an unsetteling atmosphere and is also quite funny but it really isn't all that frightning. I only mention this so you don't get disappointed when you finally watch it. I'd like to hear your take on it, though.
