I was wondering, was there ever a film that scared the shit out of you as a kid or gave your nightmares for reasons you can't even comprehend to this day? I'm talking about irrational stuff, maybe something completely innocuous that took you off guard when you were a young'n...

For me, it was some freaky movie called The Electric Grandmother. I have very vague recolections, but every now and then I'm reminded of it and I remember it freaked me out for some reason.

This might seem lame, but the original Evil Dead scared me. I had nightmares after my mom rented it when I was about nine or ten. She said I would scream in my sleep to get the pencil out of my ankle. The Exorcist also scared me when I was that age. Her face has been burned into my mind ever since.

I honestly don't recall anything off the wall giving my nightmares. I started watching horror movies somewhere around the age of 9, starting with TV showing of the classic Universal horrors. They scared the crap out of me, and I can remember creeping upstairs to go to bed, checking behind doors etc. But off the wall stuff? No.

Amityville Horror not the movie but the book. I read it in I think the 7th grade and had nightmares every night about waking up and looking out the window and the streets and everything were on fire and the devil was running down that street. I would get up and the walls would be leaking black slimy stuff and then I would scream and wake up. I had this dream for a few years:confused:

This might sound really fucked up but when I was five the Wonderwoman series (the one from the mid to late seventies) on tv with Linda Carter scared the holy living shit out of me, my mom and dad said when the intro came on I used to freak out and scream she's too good. Even to this day I cant stand superhero tv shows or movies while in stark contrast I love movies with an anti-hero like Tyler Durden from Fight Club.

The reason I ask is that I remember having a similar reaction to Vincent Price guest-starring on The Muppet Show. Those Muppet monsters never bothered me when I was a kid, but damn, when you put Vincent Price in there with them! He was just so sinister-looking. Guess that's why I love his movies so much now.

In regards to Mr. Noseybonks...

Now that's the shit I'm talking about, I swear to god if I'd seen that as a kid I'd be a nervous wreck today!

I can't remember anything non-horror that scared me. My mom had me watching horror since I was a single digit.

There's something that scares the crap out of me still, but I was like 13 when I saw it. I guess that counts as childhood, kinda. It's in the movie Bad Channels, they have a few music videos in the movie and one is by a band called Sychotic Sinfony (sorry I have no clue how to spell it, it was something like that though.) They were like Gwar but with cheaper costumes. One was a nun with a mask on, one guy was dressed as a cow, and so on, and the song they played was really bizarre. I have no idea why but that still scares the living hell out of me when I think about it. It never gave me nightmares, but it did scar me for life, just a little bit.

I was actually banned from watching 'Dr Who' for a while cos it gave me some badass nightmares! (Meanwhile, I was watching Friday The 13ths on video - go figure!)

My earliest memory of being freaked out by a movie would probably be when I saw 'Bad Ronald' on TV. I had to go around the house checking for peep-holes in the walls!!

You know, that's funny, I had absolutely no problem with horror movies as a kid. I was already well on my way with them, but some of these so called family films and children's programming threw me into fits. Right now I'm thinking of "Pinwheel" on Nickelodeon, adn also that other Nickelodeon show with the mannikin that came to life if you put on his magic hat (whatever that was called)

Pinwheel, pinwheel, spinning around. Look at my Pinwheel and see what I've found.

Pinwheel, pinwheel, where have you been? Hello, how are you, and may I come in?

Pinwheel, pinwheel, breezy and bright. Spin me good morning, spin me good night.

What was scary for me was the TV MOVIE "What Ever Happened To...?". It was a remake of "What ever happened to baby jane?" and when the guy got a pair of siscors in his back I screamed as loud as I could!

Those wheelers scared me but not to the point of having nightmares. There were creepy for sure. I'm really suprised someone else would mention those!

McChrist, you have no idea how much Plus and Minus from Pinwheel creeped me out as a kid. I've actually mentioned it on this message board before. :nervous: I swear every single puppet on pinwheel was creepy as hell and that picture Mortis posted gives me a funny feeling just looking at it.

I don't know the direct cause of it but when I was little I had EXTREME night terrors. Ones where I would run around the house screaming at the top of my lungs in the middle of the night. I had so many I can't even count.

Although I'd seen much scarier movies at ealier ages, I was only 8 or 9 when Salem's Lot came out. After seeing that movie, I used to wake up screaming from nightmares about some horrible thing floating outside my window!!!

I remember looking at my window and being freaked out that HENRY LEE LUCAS (Henry: Portrait of a serial killer) would kill me (I had a screwy childhood) or the theme song from ROSEMARY'S BABY (the title credits one) La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la....la la la la la la la....la la la la la la......freaky! Right?

Im not trying to get off topic here but since were talking about freaky shit from our childhood and Nickelodian seems too be popping up, does anyone remember one of the first min series they put out called the "Third Eye"? It came out around 83 or 84 when Nickelodian first came on cable and if anyone knows where I can get a copy of it or the other series with the kids that found out the secrets of Stonehendge that would be cool, hell i'll even make you a svcd or vcd copy your choice.

E.T. probably scared me the most. I don't know what it was about him, but I had a dream that he tried to kill me.

My sister gave me a ceramic E.T. with a red stomach that would light up when you plugged it in to an outlet. I would wake up sometimes and it felt like he was plotting to kill me!! :nervous:

So i had my mom take it out of my room. This was when i was 6 or 7.
