Warner is releasing this in August, which is great. Does anyone know anything about the release? Will it contain the original ending or the stupid one? Will it be uncut?

I hope its uncut. It damn well better be. :) Or at least have a bunch of deleted goodies on it somewhere. I am waiting for this release myself, uncut or not.

I sure hope that this one is uncut, because I would love to add it to my collection.

If it is not uncut, I may still get it depending on the price and other features.

I hope it has the original trailers (the one with the Arthurian parody and the "legends" one.) Funny as hell.

actually New Line is releasing it (though overall, it's the same company). by their track record, i imagine it'll be uncut, well, as uncut as it can be as their uncut print is not really a true uncut version (this has been mentioned on the Shocking Truth documentary)

if they port everything from the LD and add something new this will be a great disc.

I'm not really looking forward to this as I really didn't enjoy the movie all that much... the only good thing was Ken Foree... maybe I'll have to give it another go! :D

This is definitly one of those movies which has a better trailer than the whole fucking movie (the whole Excalibur thing)... In fact, that trailer still sticks out in my mind from childhood, it was so beautifully done! But thankfully, that trailer is on the TCM 1 disc so fuck all. TCM3 blows, gimme TNG anytime.

ya, the canadian disc of TNG contains the full cut (7 or so minutes more than the US dvd). It's open matte and the video quality isn't as good as the Columbia Tristar disc, but for the few $$ i paid for it, it was well worth it (yes, i'm a TNG fan mainly because Matthew McConaughey's character).

I bought the US one for $5.88 at Wal-Mart. I haven't opened it since, though.

By the way, you'd probably like my sig. :D

Out of the 7 minutes or so that was cut, does it explain what happened to Grampa? he just grabbed a knife and wandered off. Just yes or no, if yes I don't want to know and don't want to buy it. It cracks me up as it is!

I have moderately high hopes for the LEATHERFACE DVD...I just watched my "Original Uncut Version" VHS copy and it is CUT, badly...perhaps restoring Jeff Burr's original vision will put back some sorely needed UUMPH...but of course, the high desert of Southern California is a very poor substitute for the back roads of Texas...either way, it blows the doors off of TNG, Renee Zellweger excepted, of course, I can't even remember what that one was about, it was so bad...

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the Alliance (Universal) and the New Line DVDs?

i was wondering about this dvd myself and i have the 'uncut' laserdisc and it still seems cut. even the deleated scene they show at the end doesn't really show anything. how does the dvd look?

The dvd smokes the laserdisc HUGE in the video department! I have both, and the movie looks so much better on the dvd. Also, the deleted scenes are different on the dvd (the one on the laser is there, but shorter, but there are more on the dvd. Best of all, the DS and alternate ending were printed or something for the dvd, so they are watchable and don't cut from finished film look to un-finished look like on the laser.)
Keep the laser for the commentaries though, the one on the dvd is a hack job of the interviews from the dvd extras, and maybe a tad of the LD tracks, although I couldn't stand to listen to it for more than 15 minutes so I didn't hear from anyone but the New Line exec. who takes up most of the track cuz he was a grip or some shit on the film.

I really don't understand how this DVD is "uncut". I bought it and lots and LOTS of scenes where it looks like there could be a good amount of gore..... theres nothing. Take for example the scene where the sledge hammer comes down and hits the guy in the head.... the camera cuts away a split second before impact. In addition to this, the girl that gets sawed up in the chest is only shown from the face up with some blood on her face. I dunno, I feel like I got jipped here.

Watch the R rated cut, you'll feel even more jipped then.

Yeah, the R-rated version is disgustingly cut. The sledge hammer sequence doesn't even exist in the R-Rated cut in addition to other scenes that made the movie more terrifying. I remember watching this movie on VHS when I was around 11 and even then I thought there would be more gore.

Those got cut from the unrated version as well, but are in the deleted scenes on the dvd (the head smash is also on the laserdisc, where the whole scene plays longer and more intense than on the dvd). The director wasn't all that happy with how they looked, so they were removed from all versions (not that they ever had a chance of making the R cut.)

[ I just watched this for the first time yesterday--I had seen bits and pieces before but never the whole thing. first of all--the dvd quality is amazing. with its pristine transfer and dts-es sound it feels like a movie just out of the theatres. Aside from that though, I actually enjoyed the film! My only wish is that they had uses the alternative ending on hte uncut print instead of as an extra--it sure makes a lot more sense!
