While we are having fun w/ this DTS business, I though I'd ask what are your personal favorite DTS tracks, from any genre of movie.

I'd have to say my favorite is Lord of the Rings: FOTR EE

but a close 2nd is Battle Royale, man does that track deliver some serious punch!

LOTR is a great one. It is certainly one of te best. Gladiator and Saving Private Ryan come to mind as well.

Yeah I was just watching FELLOWSHIP again last night, and that DTS kicks ass.
The JAWS track ain't too shabby either.

I haven't heard many but for horror I'd say it's also From Hell, for non-horror it's LOtR

Haven't seen From Hell though, so my opinion might change afterwards.

yeah id have to go with saving private ryan DTS for sure.. problem for me with DTS tracks are that theyre soo bassy.. and coz ive got a huge ass sub (its probably the only really decent speaker in my 5.1 setup) and it makes my windows rattle and all the doors and stuff vibrate so i get a lot of "distortion" from around the room... makes me look forward to buying a new place at the end of the year and setting up a room to my tastes.. then i'll be able to appreciate a good DTS track at a decent volume! :banana: :banana:

From Hell or Saving Private Ryan have the best DTS tracks IMO, and on my set-up.
Real close behind is LOTR EE, and an honorable mention has to go to Pitch Black.

Have you ever calibrated your system? A properly calibrated sub should not cause any distortion at all.

One DTS track that many people have overlooked is the one on the X-men 1.5 disc!The opening scene when Magneto uses his power in the concentration camp is INCREDIBLE!

Truer words have never been spoken. I'd bet next month's rent that anyone here who has never calibrated their system has their subwoofer set at least twice as hot as it's supposed to be.
When I first put a sound meter on my setup, some speakers were a few dB too hot, some were too low, but the sub went off the damn scale. I now have it set at TWO, out of 10.

Now, I know a lot of people "want all that bass" with their TK-421 modified subs, but after you calibrate, you'll never have problems with anything being too loud, or not loud enough. Everything will sound the way it should, with all speakers and tones in perfect balance. And yes, you'll still have kickin' bass...

LOTR is the obvious choice, but I honestly haven't watched it all the way through since I got it. Saving Private Ryan also has a great track, but I have to vote the most enveloping which is the one for Se7en, and the most entertaining and loud and distracting which is for Brotherhood of the Wolf.

I calibrate my system to my ear, not some meter. I am the one watching the movies after all, not the meter. And yes, my system is calibrated in a way. I have all channels at optimal levels and sub not cranked too high. I am not a fan of overpowering bass either. One shouldn't assume that his system is calibtrated better than the next. it's all a matter of opinion.
