"See this? This is my boom stick! The 12-gauge double-barreled Remington. S-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about $109.95. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You got that!?!"

Whats scary about it?

It's a double barreled side by side 12 gauge shotgun. Just take any one that looks like it, and then saw off the barrel. Of course, in some states, there are minimum barrel lengths, and in some states, it might be illegal anyway. And as onebyone said, you still wouldn't be as cool as Ash!

Federal law states that shotguns must have a barrel length of 18", measured from the breech face to the muzzle. Remington hasn't made a side by side shotgun in decades. To get the full effect, though, you'll need to amputate your hand and replace it with a robogauntlet...:D

He pumps the shotgun sometimes which is inconsistent with a side by side double barrel since they are always break action. I doubt a gun like that would retail for about a 100.

What part did he pump the shotgun in?

I think it was in AOD when he fought the witch for the first time.

I don't quite remember him pumping it, but a double barrel holds 2 rounds, and quite a few times, he goes past that limit!!

hell ya!

That always bugs the hell out of me, not just in the Evil Dead movies but all movies. Can't people count the number of bullets they use!

I sold my copy to buy the Boomstick version, but I haven't gotten around to buying it yet, so I can't check, but I don't remember it.

I also hate when they drop them all over the floor and only pick up a few shells.

And just to fuck with you he'll reload it a couple of times. :D

Come on dude, keep firing... :fire: You don't see that little guy ever run out! Besides, don't you know you always reload only for drama, roll 8 sided dice, skill shot... Enemy does his save throw... Who's it gonna be?

I think its just shorthand to keep the movie moving.

Back when Joe Bob Briggs was still hosting Monster Vision he had on the Deliberate Stranger, the Bundy bio pic, and he talked about French Realism and how the Deliberate Stranger moved so slow because of it.

They show the police driving to the house, parking, getting out of the car, walking up to the door, and ringing the doorbell.

Of course, the Deliberate Stranger was a mini-series so they needed to pad it out, but do we really need to watch all that?

This kind of obsessive realism might even have a place in a bio-pic, but do we really need it in a slapstick horror show? I don't think so.

If a trend like that ever caught on, the Three Stooges would be digitally remastered for all the doctors visits and funerals that such abuse in real life would cause.

That is an excellent point. I think sometimes filmmakers forget that a film is nothing more than a simulacrum (even documentaries)...

On another note, your point on realism (and the sample you provided) I'll bring up a marginally good film by H.G. Lewis, A Taste of Blood. He admits that the movie has more production values than any other he did, but because of that the movie is full of garbage similar to:

They show the police driving to the house, parking, getting out of the car, walking up to the door, and ringing the doorbell.

Like calling for the maid and everyone on the screen waits for her arrival, or the doctor picking up his suitcase, looking through it, picking out what he needs and then handing it to the protagonist. All the more painful as Lewis is a one-camera artist.

Sorry I strayed a bit.

Ash claims it's a "double-barreled Remington." It's not. Some sources say a Stoeger Couch, which is possible. Remington does, however, still make side-by-sides, so it's your choice whether you'd want the real gun, despite it not being the same as what he says it is (so if you want it for the "I have the same gun as the character" value, no one will agree when they don't see the Remington logo without explanation), or the gun that it actually is, which doesn't match up.

The film used gun is a Stoeger coach gun in 12 gauge. The barrel isn't modified at all, the coach guns have a shorter barrel and are just at legal length. I've got a Stoeger coach gun just like Ash's but it's not the right color, black stock and nickel barrel.

Some claim there are multiple guns used (between films, before and after being "sawed off," etc).

The number of shots taken on a double barrel doesn't matter. Two barrels, one, he shot that thing far more times, without reloading, than can be accounted for by any break-open shotgun. It's a movie, and the campier they get, the less they read into things like logic, practicality, and continuity.

I always found it funny, in the remake of Amityville Horror, when George pumps the shotgun twice without firing. Once rounding the corner, then it cuts to the family fleeing, then he does it again while going up the stairs. It's funnier when it's intended to be entirely serious.

Oh, between all the films. The Stoeger Coach is only used in Army of Darkness. I have no idea what guns were used in the first and second films, but they were definitely not Stoegers. Wasn't pt.1 a single barrel shot gun? I can't remember.

I've been spending years trying to figure out the exact revolver used in Last House on the Left...anyone know? I did figure out Weasel's switchblade though.

After you purchase the shotgun, don?t forget to buy a chainsaw and saw your hand off.

Those primates wouldn't know what a Remington was, let alone a shotgun. A loud mouth braggart indeed.
