Just checked and mine does not. Neither do my copies of the novel.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h41/yottnik/Final_Exam_Poster.jpg

Thanks for that, mine haven't either and I've them since the mid 80's. I just saw this: http://www.movieposter.com/poster/MPW-49227/Final_Exam.html and was debating on getting it. I wonder what part of the USA got this version?

On a whim, I contacted Jerry Ohlinger's in New York and asked if they had a DAWN OF THE DEAD and FRIDAY THE 13TH (the original classics) because I was so wary of all the Ebay copies out there. I have been ordering from them since 1983. Anyway, they held them for me until I got paid. Just today I got both - and it's almost like it's 1979 and 1980 all over again. They are in mint condition. The right paper, the right printer's union logos, no dents, ect. Great purchase!
I also ordered a DAY OF THE DEAD advance poster from them last month and it's in mint condition as well.

He is a great guy to work with. I bought a Night of the Living Dead 1978 re-issue poster from him a few years back and got a great deal.

The Night poster I bought was around $50 I believe.

Friday the 13th was $80 - and worth it. It was so crisp that I was afraid to unfold it. It has the GAU logo at the bottom whereas the rolled poster I have been seeing has a different logo and the paper is different. This one has that paper that's kind of thin and the rear side is a tad "rougher" than the front just like my original Phantasm, Alligator, Halloween, ect. posters.

I got these posters from a dealer here in my country (Colombia-South America), he have a pretty rare posters. These posters are from the original release in Colombia. I bought them really cheap, about US 10 each.

These others are not that rare but yet great.

yeah, that's a really great poster design.

i also love how the bay of blood poster is really just a collage of images from other posters. the girl from Cannibal Ferox, and i think the guy is from house by the cemetery, but i may be wrong.

I just saw the poster from "Cannibal Ferox", you're right Dave13! Sometimes in the vintage foreign posters do that. I have the thailand and Latin American posters from "Killer crocodile" and the tahiland version has an adition from the "Crocodile" poster, more or less, the girl in the mouth, the original art doesn't have her.

question. i have a HUGE vintage poster collection some of which are framed. some of the posters are "waving" and ripple along the top and bottom in the frame. any tips to prevent that?

wago70
06-07-2011, 07:54 PM
Mine to that when they react to moisture (my city has high humidity). The ripples completely disappear when it's dry but it's a pain. Also, the paper might be reacting to moisture and also from contracting at those pressure points. When I take them out of the frame, the paper returns to normal. Weird. I wonder if putting those little silica gel packs on the backside will help?

I picked up a Dead of Night poster at a Fangoria convention in the 80's and had Tom Savini sign it. It's a very well made film although it's been a while since I've seen it. I've got a French one panel and a U.S. pressbook for the film as well.

I honor of the first weekend of June 1981 (and one of my early Drive-In memories), I put up these posters as I had seen them in Reno's El Rancho Drive-In. It was the last day of school, a friday and these are the posters I remember looking at. all that is missing are "Smokey Bites the Dust" and "Cheech & Chong's Nice Dreams" (which was the movie we were there to see). Also, i understand waht you said about "starving for a week" for a poster,LOL, sometimes you found "jewels" for a reasonable price, but for other people, a crazy price, like the $175, or what i paid for my "nightmare on elm street" ($130 plus shipping), but they just worth it!!

Great show. :)
I have been scoring some great posters from the weekly auctions at Movieposterbid.com. I'm a little sick of Heritage's additional premium, high shipping and taxes which can make a $10 win cost nearly $30 total. The condition of some items were lacking as well (such as all the stains on the rear side of my CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS lobby set which wasn't mentioned in the listing).
Anyway, for about $115, I scored these from Movieposterbid.com:
FEAR NO EVIL, DINOSAURUS, BLOB/DINOSAURUS combo, BLOB/DINOSAURUS/VAMPIRE triple bill and PANIC IN YEAR ZERO. All items in newish condition and the shipping was nice and protected. They have some great items.

July 10, 1981 - 30 years to the day:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/wago70/Ebay/001-2.jpg

Back then, it wasn't always a good sign a new film opened at indoor theaters with a co-feature. Such was FINAL EXAM which needed PROM NIGHT to support its run when it opened in Reno, NV. PROM NIGHT had been on TV already earlier that Spring. I knew I just had to see it in its R rated format. But first there was FINAL EXAM a movie Ebert and Siskel said was the boring-est horror film they ever saw. I didn't care as I was on a R rated movie going high after seeing HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME and THE HOWLING a few months earlier. Quite the accomplishment for a 10 year old (with adult in tow...or teens that passed for much older moviegoers).
FINAL EXAM was, indeed, kinda boring and the theater was empty. I loved it. PROM NIGHT brought in a few more thrill seekers and I basically sat through the whole program alone since my older brother and his friend were more interested in video games in the lobby. So there I sat, alone in the dark with two (now) beloved features and a huge bucket of soggy popcorn for dinner. When the 2nd featured ended - the later crowds finally showed up and the line for FINAL EXAM's 2nd showing was huge. Good times - just wish I had been part of that later, lively crowd.

The same day, this film opened:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/wago70/Ebay/003-2.jpg

Just for fun (released later that summer, however):

About a week ago I purchased a RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK poster for $25 (the first 1981 release version). Just got it and it's a true original item. It's near mint except for one scuff on the image. It's one of the few non-horror items I have.

I nabbed Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2, Visiting Hours, and Summer Camp Nightmare from the seller. I really wanted the Tourist Trap poster, but it went higher than I was willing to pay.

Nice. Yeah, I was eyeing the Tourist Trap poster too, but saw it going up so I bagged it. What was the final sale price?

Yeah, for $3 I couldn't resist on the Scared to Death. Pretty sweet. Boogeyman I've been eyeing from one seller for months that had it for $20, so I was happy to take this seller's for so cheap. Good grab on Town That Dreaded Sundown and his looked pretty mint too. What did you get it for?

Tourist Trap ended at $26. Monster Squad was at $46.

What would you guys say is a good price to pay for a folded Final Exam 1 sheet in very good condition? Also, how about a folded very good Blood Diner 1 sheet? I've seen both recently, but don't know if I want to pay what they're asking. Especially if they are asking too much, which I think they may be.

FINAL EXAM - I have a few of these. I never paid over $25 for one. However, they rare come up and I don't think I've ever purchased one since the early 90's. Granted there are two versions: the MPM version and an "Avco Embasssy" version. They both have the same treasured artwork, but the MPM version has the red border framing and the Avco one has their logo in the credits area and no red border line around the image. I'm not sure where the Avco credited one came from but it's worth getting. There is one for about $55 but that's too much since it's not in the best condition.

Thanks for the info! I found one for $85 which looks like it's in pretty good condition. No visible separations on the fold lines or anything like that. Even still, I think I'll pass for now. If you ever want to get rid of one of yours just let me know!!

I remember seeing VISITING HOURS at the picture show and seeing the poster outside. I love the colors on that one. Back then, I used to want to take pictures of the theaters but as a kid, I didn't have access to a camera. I really wish I had because those show houses are all gone now.

I miss all of our old single screen theaters, they had so much more style than the multiplexes that replaced them. The only local link we have to those days anymore is The Naro, built in the 20's.It's on the historical register now.Old school theater with the neon and hundreds of individual bulbs on the marquee.Great place !

While I wasn't really a huge fan of HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN I did end up seeing that at a great old time theater. The Carolina Theater in Durham has two huge balconies and over 1,300 seats.HOBO looked great on that big screen !

Now THAT is a rare experience!
I was lucky to see THE BEYOND here in San Francisco in the vintage Castro Theatre in 1998. I won the re-release poster for it in a local newspaper after answering the trivia question correctly: What was the name of the island in ZOMBIE?
:) I won the poster, an "eyeball" with the title on it and 2 tickets to see the film opening night. Good Times. :)

That's super cool,I'd love to win something like that.Oh,just found out that ZOMBIE is playing at the late show for two day at the Landmark theater in D.C. in late October. That'd be fun.

Oh,JGrendel, glad to hear you still have a classic old school movie theater in your area, they are a vanishing breed in the States.Last Halloween an old single screen theater in the Midwest was running an all day Horrorthon of vintage horror flicks, stuff from the 30's-60's.They were screening films like WHITE ZOMBIE,CARNIVAL OF SOULS,13 GHOSTS and HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL all day, even had some of the actors from the films appearing there to sign autographs. If I could have gotten there I would have loved to have seen something like that in a great little local theater.I miss the feeling of sinking into a theater seat at a local one-screener and catching classic scare flicks. There's so many jerks on cell phones and ipads now every time I go to the movies at the multiplex it just drives me nuts.

BUDDY COOPER trilogy: awesome. I was tempted to purchase...but changed. Great purchase!

No, it just came with a letter of authenticity that said it came out of his personal collection. It could have been owned by Louie Anderson and I still would have bought it, just for the fact it was a rolled Halloween II poster.

I would really like to avoid this if at all possible without having to adhere the poster to the foam-core they use. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I picked up some great VHS posters last weekend from a local bookstore. The Critters 2 poster I've been wanting for years now. I haven't even seen it on ebay. Just the crappy re-use of the Critters 1 artwork. All the posters cost me $5 each. They were so cheap that it almost felt like I was stealing the posters.

There does seem to be a lot of different artwork for this flick, but I had a hard time finding the "Twitch" one - some guy was selling it on an independent site for hundreds of dollars. I got mine pretty cheap and was slightly concerned it would be fake, but there's no way - the paper is old indeed, kinda thick and you can see it's age around the edges. Had to have it just based on the title, definitely one of my favorites :)

Nice! Loving the full Gammera poster. It pained me to lose that on Ebay once...mint condition at about $13. Simply didn't re-bid on time.

I have 3 copies of the Gammera/Knives Avenger poster. All never used and near mint (smooth paper, no dents) BUT the paper is so brittle that the center fold has turned into a separation. I plan on linen backing one of them and selling the others.

Hey russ, just out of curiosity, do you have any Prom Night stuff?

With Prom Night there's a lot I don't own simply because I'm not interested, most of the art for Prom Night was the US art and that's it, there's little in the way of worldwide variation. And I stupidly and arrogantly thought no one would bid on the Australian press sheet. Guess who is still looking for one???? That and the large Japanese Jamie Lee art are my holy grails at this point, and anything from Denmark.

I have 12 posters for Prom Night. All of them feature the masked killer with the knife in front of his face except the ones I've pictured. I also have French lobby cards, the Japanese program, two Italian photobustas, and American pressbook. I'm not familiar with the poster from Denmark.

Thanks russ.

Needless to say, I have all that. :) I'm only interested in stuff from Denmark (and any of the Nordic countries, really) because they don't seem to ebay much. Ditto the South Americas, to a lesser extent Japan, and strangely enough, New Zealand (though not necessarily in relation to my movie collecting). (They have their very own ebay clone - Trade Me - that is highly successful, so they seem to be oblivious to the world market.)
