I'm starting a Evil Dead references page on my site and I'm wondering if you guys can give me a hand. If people can list movies, cartoons, etc.. that have references to Evil Dead that would be great.

From Gunner (he started another thread for some reason, which I'm deleting):

-The video game character earthworm jim frequently used ash's classic quote...Groovy.
-In the recently released cornball movie Bloody Murder the killer has a chainsaw for a hand, just like ash.
-The peter jackson film Dead Alive bursts at the seams with homages to the evil dead films.

Evil Dead Trap is also oozing w/evil dead like scenes (most noticeably the evil-in-the-woods type camera work)--not that the ripped -off name is any indicator.

I actually abhor Evil Dead but I'll help you out anyway. In Chopping Mall, the character Michael says that chant(K.V.N. sorry I don't know the spelling lol) when he shows his ID badge to one of the robots.

The ED skull dagger was featured in Jason Goes To Hell.
In High Fidelity, they have a discussion about ED2.

Both films are referring to "The Day the Earth Stood Still". I'm pretty sure "Chopping Mall" predates "Army of Darkness" by more than a couple years regardless.

Ok well I don't really keep up with the Evil Dead films.

Here's two from left field.

In the episode of Animaniacs entitled "Video Revue" during the sequence of the T-Rex's attack, you can plainly see the drawn cover of both Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 just below Wakko, Yakko, and Dot.

And in the rarely seen Mickey Mouse cartoon Runaway Mouse from the mid 90's had an armed Mickey rising up on a window washer scaffold to confront the monster only to utter...

"Yo monster, let's go!"

Witchouse 2 - there's a scene that has a "Sam cam" or "evil cam" (whatever it was called) type shot. During the commentary the director even mentions it was an homage to Evil Dead.

Not Evil Dead, but you can see Bruce Campbell in Fargo. He's the actor on t.v. in the soap that one of the kidnappers (the quiet one, I think) is watching, I think either in the motel room or the cabin.

Actually Nancy IS watching The Evil Dead during the scene where Glen climbs thru the window and says he'll stand guard over her as she falls alseep to search for Freddy.

Elm Street came out in November of 1984
Evil Dead came out in 1983

Both were released by New Line Cinema

I got a couple of not-so good captures. Really the scenes happen too fast to get good shots. But, the ones I did get can be found at http://www.gate.net/~jsully/ed.html

The first is a head-shot of Ash on the TV screen, and the second is a shot of Nancy with Evil Dead on TV in the lower right quadrant. The pix are 800x450, and are 29k and 41k respectivly (For the d/l conscious).

Hope these good enough.

I heard that the band Skinny Puppy has a lot of Evil Dead things in their music.

Also in the Dead Hate the Living, they refer to the trilogy A LOT.

Skinny Puppy has a lot of horror-references in general.. They actually made a whole video consisting of nothing but scenes of voilence from horror-movies. Lots of Argento and Fulci stuff - can't remember if there was any Evil Dead stuff in there though!?

Thanks all that have replied. Just let you guys know I'm looking for specific references to Evil Dead. The necronomicon isn't unique to Evil Dead. Bruce Campbell appearing in other movies isn't either. Don't get me started on Duke Nukem. Anyway keep them coming. Thanks!

Skinny Puppy has no reference involving
Evil Dead to my knowlede. lots of Argento and Fulci stuff. Industrial artist Leather Strip samples NOTLD '90 on a song (sorry Ash, just had to throw that it.) If Skinny Puppy does have reference to Evil Dead please submit the specifics. http://www.horrordvds.com/forum/smile.gif
Bava's Demons has a little Evil Dead feel to it.

Some of the 20-something croud may remember a popular 1990 song called "People Are Still Having Sex" by the band LaTour. It featured a sample of dialog from EDII the "Hello Lover" when Linda's head fell through the roof and bit on to Ash's hand.

Bruce Campbell's web site says something about Skinny Puppy having sampled Evil Dead 1 or 2. I don't know what song though. I do believe the metal band Diecide sampled them too

You can often find sample-reference-lists on industrial bands homepages, and I can imagine that Evil Dead stuff has been used manytimes... sooo, go on a www-hunt and seek out those lists http://www.horrordvds.com/forum/smile.gif

For instance - I know for sertain that I have seen lists of all Skinny Puppy and Frontline Assembly samples *hint* ;D

I'm not sure the name of the song, but I'll find out from my friend who has the CD (them being a local band, it's hard to get a hold of a copy of it).

as for the "people are still having sex" I remember that, and I'm 19 :-) hehe.

if yo go here http://skinnypuppy.killing-game.com/ and go to samples it shows all the albums where you can find different samples. the song that has the samples is Who's Laughing Now

these are the samples

"Who's laughing now..."

"I hope you rot down there!"

"May God forgive me for what I have unleashed onto this Earth"

"We are the things that were and shall be again."

- Evil Dead 2

when i was actually into skinny puppy i used to think that ogre looked just like bruce... in a live show i saw he would get caught in this head thing and it would show his face on the monitor and it was in the same fashion i think as bruce getting flung through the trees in evil dead 2.

also i have the fangoria issue with the first part of the evil dead 2 preview they did during filming if you need that ash.

I guess "they" are right ctyner - no one reads anymore
(or watches classic b&w films apparently)

There's a mix CD by Richie (Plastikman) Hawtin called Decks, Efx, 909 (availible on M-nus/Novamute Records) that samples ED II.
It's at the halfway point of the disc. The music stops, then you here that Raimi wind sound effect, then "What the hell was that?" "Maybe something trying to force its way into our world." then the next track drops. On the tracklisting, Richie makes it look like he was playing this sample off of a 12" record, going as far to list the track as being released on Ash Records.
