View Full Version : What's up with Full Moon's TOURIST TRAP DVD?

I'm very confused with my Full Moon DVD of TOURIST TRAP. Now, I've heard some complaints on other websites that it is supposed to be in Widescreen, and when they play the movie on their TV it's in Full Screen. I don't know why this is either. But something makes me even more confused-- when I play the DVD on my computer it IS in Widescreen, and it's anamorphic, too! Now, even though it's in Widescreen on my computer, the movie isn't in good shape for there are a fair amount of speck and scratches all over the movie. But, back to the subject, I was hoping someone could tell me why it's in Full Screen on my TV (and others TVs as well, not just mine) and it's in Amamorphic Widescreen on my computer.

If you don't have a widescreen tv check and make sure your DVD player is set to letterbox 4:3. I remember hearing people talk about buying a few DVDs that were supposed to be widescreen but weren't. after they checked and changed this setting everything worked.

Yeah, I had the same problem with Argento's Phantom of the Opera. That's what it is.

As the person who masterminded the TOURIST TRAP DVD and supervised the transfer, I can confirm what the other folks above are saying. It was transferred in true 16:9 anamorphic so if your player is not set to display anamorphic discs in letterboxed mode on a normal television, you'll either get a squeezed or cropped full-frame image...

Oh... so THIS is what's wrong with it! OK, I understand now!
But if I set it to 16:9, won't it show all my other discs squeezed full frame?

you don't set it to 16:9 you set it to letterbox 4:3
there are several settings:
1. letterbox 4:3
2. letterbox 16:9
3. P&S 4:3
use the #1 setting

I think I have it set to letterbox 4:3... I'll have to check later on. Thanks! :)

Yea! set your player up for 4:3 then you will see discs that say they are in widescreen in widescreen and anamorphic discs will be converted into widescreen. anamorphic dics will be downconverted to widescreen by removing lines unless you have a 4:3 TV that does the squeeze .:D
I had the same problem with my Shriek Show DVDs, then I went through and checked it out. For god sakes do not use the 16:9, it will stretch the picture out and shit.

Another problem I have...
On some of my Shriek Show DVDs, the menus are strange. They are like bigger than normal and you can't see the button you want to push highlighted... it's hard for me to explain. Has anyone else had this problem? For me, it was specifically on the Burial Ground and What Have you Done to Solange DVDs, but the menus are fine on my computer. Why does it do this on my TV and has anyone else had this problem??
It's the ratio thing again, just put it on Letterbox 4:3 and it should be normal.

Are you sure? Because there is no problem when I play the movies, it's only the menus.

I'd say it's simply the ratio thing. I have a widescreen - and sometimes I have to adjust the settings just for the menu. No big deal, the remote has a button to do it.
