This great little film is underrated as all hell, and I found it very creepy when I first saw it, and quite frankly, I still do to this date! The mutated people are pretty damn menacing, especially with that burning thing they do when they get ahold of a victim. The way their skin looks is rather unnerving too, and they are just great villains.
The film is also pretty grim overall. I loved the tone and mood. A really frightening and suspense filled scene was when the female lead and a kid are hiding from the mutants in a bathroom stall, and the mutants pull the kid under the stall and of course kill him. That scene really stuck with me, because it was just so well done.
This film is extremely atmospheric, and seeing how the mutants don't like the light, most of the film takes place at night, and that adds a whole lot to the already eerie and gritty atmosphere. I especially love the very suspensful finale with all the fog.
Wings Hauser is pretty good as one of two brothers that are stranded in the town. I especially liked Bo Hopkins as the Sherriff though.
Quite simply, this film is just about as underrated as they come if you ask me, and its a pretty frightening and effective rural town horror romp! I just love it! Any thoughts on this film?

Yeah, this is a fun little action/zombie flick.
A few cool f/x shots and a great action filled ending.
I have the Diamond version and it's pretty lame though. I still need to pick up that Elite disc. One thing I've notice - the old Vestron Video release and the Diamond DVD cuts off some of the end credits, I wonder if it's complete on the Elite disc?

I've only ever seen this from Diamond. I found it easy to resist in that format. Maybe I can reconsider.

Yea this film is great. Definitely go with the elite disk. If you liked this I highly reccomend "The Bite" the distributors retitled it to "Curse II: The Bite" to appeal to a wider audience, but if anything it alienated a lot of people. It is completely unrelated to the first Curse movie

I have the Elite disc, but I don't know if the end credits are complete, because I've never watched them in their entirety. The transfer on the disc is damn good though.
Also, I actually have THE CURSE II: THE BITE on VHS. I love it too! Very good with some cool gore and snake-hand effects. A DVD release would rule!

I remember the ads for this on MTV when it was first released but I didn't manage to see it until a few months ago. I thought it was pretty good. I think I saw the Diamond version so I'll have to check out the Elite version sometime.

I watched my DVD of this gem earlier this morning, so I thought I'd resurrect my thread here. Surely more people here have seen it, right? For those who haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.

Did you watch the end credits this time? ;)

Probably one of the best endings in a zombie film, in my opinion. You're almost certain that they're completely fucked...

Didn't watch the end credits because I forgot all about the credit cutting. They're just end credits anyways. :p
I agree, Dmeister. The ending is fantastic, and is also one of the most atmospheric scenes in the movie.

Can anyone tell me just how bad the bargain Platinum DVD version of this is? I know you can get it cheap from Elite now, but I have no way of getting it, but if the DVD transfer is VERY bad, I'll take my chances and wait, but if it is about VHS quality, I'll pick it up, it's really cheap anyways.

It's too dark, washed out colors, lacking sharpness - all the bad stuff. It's kinda like VHS quality. I'm sure the Platinium DVD ain't different.
The Elite DVD is a sight for sore eyes though: 16:9 enhanced, beautiful transfer - simply great :)

So, the Elite DVD is worth the extra dough? I also still have the cheap crappy DVD and have been meaning to upgrade forever.

Hey Everyone,
Ahhhh Mutant, one of my top 20 favorite horror movies. I saw it when I was 8 in 1986, I loved then and I love it now, it scared the hell out of me. If you could put Night Of The Living Dead and Salem's Lot in a blender then you would get Mutant, that's the way I've always looked at it.
The DVD release kind of disappointed me with its lack of extras ( even though I should be grateful it even got a DVD release ), a commentary from Bud Cardos plus some interviews with some of the cast would have been nice but I'm assuming the movie is a red headed stepchild to just about everyone involved in its making.
I picked up some old Fangos recently and only just found out that they expected the film to be a really big hit but it failed miserably at the box office. Still I think it's a wonderful film plus I had a monstrous crush on Jody Medford ( who plays Holly ) for most of my teenage years even though she couldn't act her way out of a paper bag.

Grease Guy : Four pounds of grease...that comes to 63 cents.
Homer : Woo Hoo.
Bart : Dad, all that bacon cost 27 dollars.
Homer : Yeah, but your mom payed for that.
Bart : But doesn't she get her money from you.
Homer : And I get my money from grease, what's the problem.

I didn't realize that there was a new DVD of this one. No new features, huh? I had hoped that Dark Sky would do a SE (along with KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS) since they got the director's participation on THE DARK.

I always intend to order this, but it seems to somehow slip my mind whenever I'm shopping.
It's a really cool flick, and I had a mad crush on Lee Montgomery back in the day. Why? Dunno.
Speaking of which... I also really enjoy another of his pictures: The Midnight Hour. That oop DVD is one of my prized possessions! Anybody else remember that made-for-tv gem?

The "new DVD" has actually been out for a couple of years. They even had it to rent at Blockbuster surprisingly.
I have the old Elite DVD release which was 16x9, probably the same transfer.

I have always been a fan of going way back to the Vestron VHS days. I remember seeing a ton of TV spots for it, under the Night Shadows title, but I am pretty sure it never actually came to any theaters or drive-ins near me.
It has a really nice, classy vibe to it that kind of defies the budget...and Wings is awesome as always! I would probably call it one of the best American Zombie movies of the 80s.

I got the Elite disc of Mutant a few years ago in Pittsburgh for under 10 bucks. Great little flick. It's spooky and I'm a huge fan of Wings Hauser who stars in Mutant. I remember Fangoria had it on the cover of one of their early issues in the 80's, but I never had a chance to see it til I bought the DVD. Very glad I did.

Can anyone explain why there is an alien's face with sharp teeth on the cover of this video box? I remember renting this flick as a kid and being disappointed that there were no monsters, only zombies. Maybe I missed something...
With that said, it sounds like it's time to give this another try

So is the 2006 Liberation disc the same as the Elite disc quality wise? Also what about the Miracle disc that came out in 2005?
