He's uglier than Jason, he cracks more jokes than Freddy and he's taller than Chucky...He's the Leprechaun, played by Warwick Davis....And he's in a very cool dvd set well worth the $45 price.
It all started with Leprechaun. Mr. O'Grady started the whole thing when he stole a little leprechaun's gold. (remember: "Try as they will, and try as they might, who steals me gold won't live through the night!"). However, O'Grady successfully locks the leprechaun in a crate with a single 4-leaf clover on the top. Years later, when Tori and her dad go to the O'Grady house for a vacation, it escapes. It terrorizes the group and tells them he wants his gold back. They tell him they don't have it. But one of them does, Oz. Oz is a mentally retarted man who ate one of the gold coins. He actually tried to bite it and see if it was real...A great film (obviously, or it wouldn't have spawn off 4 sequels...to date)
A different kind of story is told in Leprechaun 2 when the poor leprechaun tries to find his long lost bride in modern day LA....He thinks he found her. The only thing is, she has a boyfriend. He solves that by kidnapping her and bringing her to his underground home...The boyfriend (with the help of his best friend) try to get the Leprechaun before he marries and kills her. An interesting story to keep your interest. There aren't many deaths (5 to be exact) but when there are....watch out for some great special F/X.
Leprechaun 3 in my opinion is the best one yet. It centers around college bound Scott. He meets up with Tammy, a magicians assistant for a very shitty show at a casino. When he is on a losing streek at the roulette table, he decides to pawn in his watch. He goes across the street (convient, ain't it?) and finds the shop owner dead, with a CD-ROM playing. It says how to kill leprechauns (the funniest moment in the series, by far!) and finds a gold coin. He looks at the computer screen and it tells him that each gold coin will give you a wish. any wish. So he wishes that he was at the casino on a winning streak. Well, wish granted. But one thing is for sure: he's not going to enjoy his earnings for long. He's been bitten by the evil leprechaun and is turning into one himself....so with the luck of the Irish, Scott has to save his new girlfriend and put the little leprechaun down once and for all. Boy, and they said college was tough!
Well, the best in the series comes right before the worst in the series... Leprechaun 4: In Space deals with a space crew going to a planet to save a princess from the leprechaun. You see, if the princess marries the leprechaun, he could rule the universe...they are taken abord the ship in one piece. The leprechaun gets his bride and tries to get away. But even before they get married they are already having marital
problems ....
(Leprechaun: [under his breath:] stupid little bitch....
Princess: what did you say?!
Leprechaun: I said we'll be rich! Rich!)
Finally, there is Leprechaun in the 'Hood which is about Mack Daddy: He found a magical flute that belongs to the little leprechaun. The flute casts a short zombie-like daze on anyone who hears it. Well, that turns Mack Daddy into a success. Years later, a new group comes along trying to be gangster for a record deal with Mack. When Mack tells them he's not interested and to get the fuck out, they decide to rob him that night to get enough money to go to Vegas to be in a competition. Well, they steal a medallian (last seen in Leprechaun 3 ) from a stone leprechaun's neck and that sets him free. The group is constantly chased around the 'hood by Mack Daddy and what the group assumes is "Chucky on crack". The funniest scene in the movie deals with the groups friend (who is a transexual) and the Leprechaun: I didn't come to play with fruit. I only seek me golden flute.
Fontaine: Ohh, when you put it that way, you make it sound all lyrical!
A good enough movie, indeed!
