I seen on E online that this movie has made more than Jason X and A new Nightmare combined.
It's nice to see a good ol fashioned horror movie kick every other movies ass at the box office. Closest we've came to that in awhile was 28 Days Later (I think it got #4)

It'll probably stay #1 because the only other high profile movie opening Friday is Jackie Chan's Medallion.

THIS COULD BE A GODSEND!!!!! If it does really good at the boxoffice, then horror movies will comeback in a bigger way.

Horror movies have been doing very well at the box office this last year. Back in October THE RING became the word of mouth hit of the year, and FD 2, 28 DAYS LATER were both very profitable hits. With FVSJ lighting it up though, the slasher film should experience a more traditional revival, not the kind of post-modern one that SCREAM paved the way for. Bring it on!

Horror movie should do go as long as they don't get any rap stars in them.
Update : $48,044,640 !
28 Days Later : $43,289,417

Good to see it make money, can only be good for getting more horror movies on the big screen. Still to see it as my local cinema still hasn't got it, might go and see Tomb Raider 2 instead:cry:

It's a terrible and meaningless comparison to make between a film that gets nationwide release in the U.S. and another that gets limited release.

Well, 28 days later was a very cheap film, too.

'Freddy Vs. Jason' Remains Top Flick
By DAVID GERMAIN
.c The Associated Press
LOS ANGELES (AP) - A weak batch of new movies made easy prey for "Freddy vs. Jason,'' which took in $13.45 million to remain the No. 1 weekend flick, according to studio estimates Sunday.
"Freddy vs. Jason,'' a blood feud between the villains of "A Nightmare on Elm Street'' and "Friday the 13th,'' was the first movie to retain the top spot for two straight weekends since "X2: X-Men United'' in early May.
The weekend haul for "Freddy vs. Jason'' raised its 10-day total to $61.5 million.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at North American theaters, according to Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc. Final figures will be released Monday.
1. "Freddy vs. Jason,'' $13.45 million.
2. "S.W.A.T.'' $10.8 million.
3 (tie). "Freaky Friday,'' $9.4 million.
3 (tie). "Open Range,'' $9.4 million.
5. "The Medallion,'' $8.2 million.
6. "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,'' $7.3 million.
7. "Seabiscuit,'' $6.3 million.
8. "Uptown Girls,'' $5.6 million
9. "American Wedding,'' $5.58 million.
10. "My Boss's Daughter,'' $5 million.

64% is a pretty big fall for FVSJ, but still, the number is impressive. It should close with around 75-80 million, which is fantastic. It is great to see these 80's icons tearing up the charts.

True, but others mention it and I just wanted to throw out the number for reference.
I saw the Yahoo! article about the movie being at #1 again and silently cheered it on. :D

On the one hand it is nice to see a horror film doing so good. On the other, I have almost no interest in it as neither of these characters are very interesting. Shame it couldn't have been something a bit more interesting than another damn remake with worn out characters - but - oh well. This should put us in good stead for more horror next year.

I can't believe it I agree with dwatts;) I have no interest in this movie at all either but it is good to see a horror movie (if that's what you can call it hehe) do good.

I am glad it is doing so well, because I love Freddy and Jason, even if I can't see the damn movie until September at the earliest. Still, I kind of fear the movie's success as well. With this and 28 Days Later doing so well, you just know the crap copycats are going to be hitting any day now.
Update :
$63,586,000

You know the better this movie does the more uncut those DVDs will be in that box set :)

but what exactly will there be copycats of? i don't really see much VS movies. i know Aliens Vs Predator is coming up, but that's also a movie that has been thought about for a long time , and not just jumping on the bandwagon. as for copycats of 28 days later, i'm all for zombie (or zombie-like) flicks!! :D
Yeah, There have been a Aliens Vs Predator EVERYTHING for since 1990's!!!!

If a movie or a tv show does well, there are ALWAYS crap copycats. Don't sell the industry short.
And I just checked the movie schedule and we don't get this for all of September either. This means the earliest I can get it is October.

For the first time in 12 days, FVSJ has finally fallen from the top spot. SWAT inched past it on Tuesday, but more than likely it will jump higher on the charts by the time the weekend comes. JEEPERS CREEPERS 2 will probably get #1, but FVSJ shouldn't be far off.

It's sad that JC2 of all movies will be the one to dethrone F vs J :(
Update :
$64,484,000
Boy, FVJ is slowing down a lot, maybe it will pick back up this weekend or be killed by... JC2 :(
These are Friday's numbers :
JEEPERS CREEPERS 2 is now #1 with $5,050,000 on it's opening day.
FREDDY VS. JASON fell to #6 with $1,823,000 for a total of $67,107,000

And yeah, cheers to JC2 - the new number one horror flick at the box office (so far)

Domestically speaking, you may have a point. However, FREDDY VS JASON should easily go over $100 million after international distribution.......and THEN the home video market....not to mention merchandising.....and PPV.....and cable......blah, blah, blah....

That's exactly what I meant, domestically speaking.
I'm sure it will make twice once it hits DVD, merchandising, foreign-rights blah blah blah :)

Grrr - can we have a number one horror film with a bit more inventiveness? It's really great to see them doing well - but damn, they're just not very interesting, imho. Now we have Jeepers Crappers II. One was enough.

I say it was too much :) I'm saddened that JC2 beat FvsJ, but oh well, I knew it would happen. Let's just hope things like Cabin Fever and others like it do well too so we'll get more like that too. I know I'll be there as soon as I can (I wanted to say opening weekend, but damn if Once Upon a Time in Mexico isn't calling my name!).

There is now a window of opportunity for someone to get something interesting out. People seem to be into their horror right now - so it just might be the time for a kill!

No truer statement has ever been made. (today at least ;) )
With all the interest right now it shows that people do want to watch horror, however, it's time for someone to put out something with balls. For me 90's horror concentrated more on pretty faces and name marketability. It seems now that they want to get back to the basics.
When it gets down to the bottom line people want to make money, it is a business, I understand that. As long as higher ups know that if they want success, you got to put out a product worth paying for. Hopefully things are heading in that direction.

Don't know why I went to see this movie. Should have at least paid my ticket for another movie.
I went there expecting it to suck and my expectation were not deceived.
JC2 is still #1 with $20,720,845 in total
FvJ is #6 with $75,106,702 in total
The End is near for FvJ
Thus far it has made $78,570,000
Monday it only made $220,000 it's now #8
JEEPERS CREEPERS 2 is still #1 with a total of $27,700,146
It has also slowed down and only made $417,293
The next big release should knock it out of the #1 spot.
ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO, CABIN FEVER, and MATCHSTICK MEN will be released on the 12th
