I've never seen this, but I'm thinking of picking it up...it sounds really cool. I assume that many of you probably have seen it so I'm looking for some opinions/feedback. Thanks!!!

I Really enjoyed it, I'll be picking it up. You should search a couple weeks back there was a pretty long thread on this topic.

I watched it a few nights ago. I would say 6.5 out of 10. It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. I found it pretty entertaining. And it was pretty fast paced. Cant really compair it with anything because its in its own catagoery.

It was a nice little surprise actually! Takacs kept it simple and moody enough to make it really enjoyable. There were some really nicely composed scenes with the lightning and shadows which caught me off-guard as I was expecting some high-grade 80's cheese. The ending was a bit out there, though every film that incorporates stop-motion just for the heck of it is a-ok in my book.

I love this, be nice to upgrading my awful VHS copy 'Hardcover', as it's known in the UK.

If I remember rightly, Jenny Wright (whatever happened to her?) wears some nice see-through stuff!:D

Not sure. Some say she had drug problems, other say she's taking care of her ill mother.
Either way, she's missed :(

I just watched mine last night and what a hidden gem it was. I really liked it. Good story and the director didn't take themselves too seriously, allowing us to just have fun.

Interestingly enough the American theatrical trailer slapped on the disc also calls the movie 'Hardcover'.

I also have that VHS, bought it like 7 years ago and still haven't watched it. No need for crappy transfers now though, with that more-than-satisfying DVD of it.

I've watched half of it so far. I started watching it the night I got it, but a long work day caused me to fall asleep. What I did see though, I liked. I need to find the time to pop this back in and watch the rest of it. Sounds like most of you on here really liked it :)

I am still weighing my desire to avoid putting money into the pockets of the a$$holes who transferred the movie in pan&scam against the fact that I, Madman is an 80s favorite of mine, and I really want to own it...

Isn't it open-matte? It sure looks like that and the transfer is really, really nice for an old low-budget darling from the 80's.

Well, this was the only title in the whole slew of horror titles that MGM released that was fullframe (other than the old Boris Karloff film, the Ghoul, which is supposed to be that way), so I'm thinking that either there was a problem with the widescreen print or that since it was most likely shot open-matte, that MGM decided on just a FF release. Seeing as though it was the only title not given widescreen treatment, something specific to this title must've been up. MGM are far from being "assholes" as you claim.

I am very happy with MGM right now. I mean, compare their new cheap releases with the dren Artisan is putting out and they are deserving of love in my book.

I wondered why it was in fullframe too. It looked really good that way to me though, I never had that feeling I was watching a clipped movie like I oft do with pan&Scan. I am assuming from that they had a good reason to release it as such.
