Well, there is this thread in another section of this board called Top 10 Slashers of the 80's. So I figured I'd do the equivalent here for the way superior Giallo genre.

Let's see everyones favorites Giallo here. I include only the titles I own those movies under. I know some of them have 5 different titles, but I won't start naming them all. Don't mention there is no Fulci in my list. I know cause I simply don't like his movies. Don't Torture A Duckling is far from my top ten.

1- Bay Of Blood (1971)
2 - Deep Red (1975)
3 - Death Walks At Midnight (1972)
4 - The Night Evelyn Came Out Of The Grave (1971)
5 - The Cat o' Nine Tails (1971)
6 - Short Night Of The Glass Dolls (1971)
7 - What Have You Done To Solange? (1972)
8 - They're Coming To Get You (1972)
9 - A Dragonfly For Each Corpse (1973)
10- Who Saw Her Die? (1972)

I'm always confused as to which decade this belongs in. Some books and articles say the film was done in 1970 while many others say 1969. Which is it?

I had to make my list a top ten giallos from the 70's AND 80's AND 90's AND 2000's because I haven't really had the chance to see too many from the 70's.

1 - Deep Red
2 - Dressed To Kill (who says an American movie can't be a giallo?? :D)
3 - What Have You Done To Solange?
4 - Blood and Black Lace
5 - Phenomena
6 - Tenebre
7 - Sleepless
8 - Twitch of the Death Nerve
9 - Macabre
10 - A Blade in the Dark

I know, I'm lame. :(

Well, I have so few - only those on mass release in R1 and R2, so I'm going to hold off making any kind of list. Damn, there is at least one Argento flick that I've never seen! With hundreds of these out - I'm going to wait on this one.

1)Deep Red
2)Bird with the Crystal Plumage
3)Don't Torture a Duckling
4)Case of the Scorpion's Tail
5)A Lizard in a Woman's Skin
6)Next!
7)Torso
8)Black Belly of the Tarantula
9)Case of the Bloody Iris
10)What Have They Done to Solange?

Cat O' Nine Tails, 4 Flies on Grey Velvet & Seven Blood Stained Orchids almost made this list...

I only put 2 Argento's in the list to be able to have more films by other directors there...
All the Sergio Martino gialli need to be released on dvd!

Regarding Bird with Crystal Plumage, I assume it was made in 1969 but released in 1970... Here's info from imdb:

Release dates for
Uccello dalle piume di cristallo, L' (1970)

Country Date
Italy 19 February 1970
USA 12 June 1970
West Germany 24 June 1970
UK March 1971
France 20 June 1971
Finland 5 May 1972
Australia 1 March 2003 (Adelaide International Film Festival)

what was the one with the girls who were in that mansion with the murderer inside? I think it was like three younger girls and an older woman with them. God, I cannot think of the name of this movie. I've seen so many giallos they've all sorta just blurred together. I'm thinking *maybe* Torso.

Bird with the Crystal Plumage is from '70 (according to Art Of Darkness)

Great lists.
I'd like to add My Dear Killer (solid detective/Giallo)

Technically it is 69. It depend if you consider the year it was made in or the year it was released. Usually people go by the later. Make alot more sense cause some movies are made over one year before they are released.

1. Tenebre
2. Don't Torture A Duckling
3. What Have You Done To Solange?
4. Short Night of Glass Dolls
5. Phenomena
6. Who Saw Her Die?
7. Blood And Black Lace
8. The Bird With The Crystal Plumage
9. The Bloodstained Shadow
10. Deep Red

This is a pretty amateur list though, I haven't seen more than 18 or so gialli, so I am still pretty inexperienced.

Alot of people mention Case of The Bloody Iris. Guess that's one I'll have to check out. There is just so many of them, I saw like around 60-70 Giallo probably... and still so many I haven't saw.

But it's all really fun. I love them so much more then slashers for plain simple bloody entertainment.

Yep, I see the "amateur" in you. Blood And Black Lace is quite far from the 70's :D It's a 1964 movie. But hey, this is an amazing movie indeed. Tenebrae is 1982. Phenomena is 1985 (but is amazing too).

But I guess out of 18, you only had that much from the 70's. Stop watching those silly slashers and discover the wonders of the color yellow.
