Antonio Margheriti's TORNADO makes it's DVD debut with this German release. The film is presented with a ratio of 1.85:1 and is not enhanced for anamorphic televisions, there is plenty of damage on this print but is still easy on the eye (well for this fan anyway). The audio is presented in German Dolby Digital 2 CH, like the picture it is reasonable and Aldo Tamborelli's score comes through well. There are no other language options and no subtitles available on the DVD. Extras are limited to 6 trailers, unfortunately not one for the main feature, but the 6 are COMMANDO LEOPARD, EXTERMINATORS OF THE YEAR 3000, THUNDER, THE CONCORDE AFFAIR, HOLLYWOOD COP and HOUSE.

The film has been Rated 16, but there are still 2 cuts to this version, the first is a sequence with a Viet Cong boobytrap that explodes in the face of one of the characters, this scene is completely missing cutting to the sequence just after as they drive to the hospital. The second cut happens after Maggio is captured by the Viet Cong, we see his capture and then we cut to Maggio being dumped in the muddy water, the scene missing shows our hero in a cage and being fed and befriended by a VC he will later kill. I don't know why these cuts were made, and it is a shame because the film feels incomplete, especially with the first cut, as virgin viewers will be thinking what the hell just happened. But on the plus side there is an extra scene with Luciano Pigozzi and Antonio Marsina's commander.

Not a great release but a worthy addition the Antonio Margheriti collection on DVD.

Good review. I haven't seen this film in ages.
Too bad this DVD doesn't deliver though.

Received DAS CONCORDE INFERNO aka THE CONCORDE AFFAIR last week and the DVD had the trailer for IM WENDEKREIS DES SOLDNERS aka TORNADO. Well the trailer is in superb condition, the picture is sharp and there is no print damage. What really kills though is some of the footage missing from the DVD is intact in the trailer  .

Ugh, same thing on Marketing's Amityville 3 DVD. Footage (Candy Clark burning to death in a car) that has been cut from the film can be seen in the trailer :eek2:
