This is my definition of a cult film. Discovered and re-released by Quentin Tarantino who also put this in theaters, The Mighty Peking Man is a gem of funny entertainment.

"Giant Footprint Discovered In Himalayas!"

These are the latest headlines screaming from the front papers and our hero Johnny Fang - who's a hopeless drunk since he lost his girl - is hired to lead an expedition into the Indian jungle to catch Peking Man, a humongous Gorilla who's been idle inside a mountain for ages till he decided to wake up and wreak havoc. The expedition doesn't run smoothly though because along the way Johnny and his crew must encounter a horde of furious Elephants, a leg-eating Tiger, quicksand and hard to conquer mountains until they finally get a glimpse of ... a hot blonde jungle babe.

Johnny's abandoned by his crew shorty after and the next morning he bumps into a giant gorilla hand. Yep, Utam aka The Mighty Peking Man is indeed for real and has a hold of him now - but before he can do any real damage the mysterious jungle girl comes swinging yodeling like Tarzan and Johnny loses consciousness. Johnny awakes in a cave and soon learns that the dazzling jungle chick goes by the name of Samantha and was actually raised by Utam which should explain her strange language. As a child she was traveling with her parents in a plane but it crashed and her folks died. Utam saved her and told her all about the facts of life. And make up. Seriously. For a chick who spent her entire life in the jungle far away from civilization she sure knows how to use that eyeliner and lip gloss.

It doesn't take long till Johnny and Samantha fall in love and yo, persuades Samantha and Utam to go with him back to Hong Kong. Bad plan.

We have all seen King Kong so the outcome should be familiar.

Ok transfer for it's age, the image is clean and sharp in most parts but there is also dirt, specks and grain to be found.

Audio: Mono 2.0 - There is some hissing, dialogues aren't always heard clearly and the music is very loud at times but overall, i'd say all these 'faults' actually go perfectly with movie.

Extras - Theatrical trailer and two coming attractions (Switchblade Sisters & From Dusk Till Dawn 3) at the beginning which cannot be skipped.

This movie is so unintentionally funny in parts I thought I might laugh myself sick. The big finale almost put me in the hospital, it was just so unmercifully yet deliciously bad. I mean, the effects are terrible, and that might be giving them too much credit. I could not stop laughing. If you love camp, you got to pick this up. I am glad I did.

Just finished watching Mighty Peking Man, what a blast! Lots of fun, and if you're a fan of Kaiju Eiga it's a given you'll love this. Now who else thought of Monty Python's Meaning of Life during the tiger scene??

Yeah, I bought it as a blind buy based on all of the "good" things I'd heard...and was not impressed. I fell asleep twice (in the middle of the day, no less) and honestly can't recall a single scene. I'm sure I'll try it again some day but it's at the bottom of my list.
