Thats for posting this! Looks like the end of the year will bring good things!

I think they screwed up. Dracula, Prince of Darkness is supposed to be paired with Rasputin and Plague of the Zombies to be paired with The Reptile. They were originally released together on a double bill back in the 60s and they should have been kept that way. This is bullshit! :fuck:

Great info guys!
I see several things here that I will be picking up, especially the Quatermass double feature. I have been looking for Quatermass And The Pit for a long time, so this is going to be mine!
Might pick some of these up, depending on the price.
Unfortunately, they're probably going to be "double features" on a single disc, so it will fuck up my Hammer collection.
Why can't the assholes just shrink-wrap two keepcases together like any other company. I mean, fuck, even Universal -- UNIVERSAL -- has the sense to do this.

--it will fuck up my Hammer collection.--
Yup - I'll finish up the movies I want with the single releases.
These kinds of "double feature" discs really irritate me.
I'm fine with something like the "Prom Night 3/4" double, or the "Howling 5/6." Even if one of the movies sucks, at least there's a logical reason for it to be there.
Even MGM's "Countess Dracula"/"Vampire Lovers" DVD works, as both films star Ingrid Pitt, and are at least sort of thematically linked, and came out at around the same time.
But the "Dracula POD" and "Satanic Rites" just bugs the hell out of me. It fucks up the presentation of my collection, to have them both next to each other. I'd like to have a shelf of my DVD rack dedicated to Hammer, with all of the Dracula films together and in order, same with the Frankensteins.
And some of these don't even make sense. "Abominable Snowman" paired up with "Shatter?" Huh?
And at least give "Quatermass II" billing BEFORE "Quatermass and the Pit."
I'm seriously considering waiting for the Blue Underground releases and filling the holes in my collection that way.
hell ya!

I'll be picking up most of thoes.

I agree with everything you said, JW. I have all of those all ready on VHS and can hold out until Blue Underground releases what will most likely be superior discs.
The occasional release aside, Anchor Bay continues to be a pale shadow of it's former self. Bill Lustig leaving was the worst thing that could possibly have happened to that company.

Here's a double feature worth getting. Them/The Beast From 20,000 Fanthoms. Great box and the included sculpture is nice.

I'm wondering if these will be re-programed. My DRACULA, PRINCE OF DARKNESS has the feature on one side and the extras on the other. I believe this is the case with several others. I'm also wondering if these will be improved any? These retail for $24.95 each so it will be interesting to see (DDD is offering them at $15). I know what you mean about throwing off the collection. I have all of my Dracula films grouped together so I can see how having something outside of this theme would be annoying.
I think they screwed up. Dracula, Prince of Darkness is supposed to be paired with Rasputin and Plague of the Zombies to be paired with The Reptile. They were originally released together on a double bill back in the 60s and they should have been kept that way. This is bullshit! :fuck:
Actually, isn't it Dracula Prince of Darkness/Plague of the Zombies, and Rasputin/Reptile? Those are the double features from the inserts of the current AB discs. Either way though, it's wrong.

I have no problem stating what I feel is the obvious - these will not be remastered in ANY way. No new features, no clean up. They will simply be copies of the original discs, with worse cover art. Since there's only two or three more I need to get (and NONE of them are on the titles) I'll get the individual discs while I can - even at the price.
There are at last eight titles from the Hammer Collection missing from these double features, so if you wanted the entire collection, you'd be out of luck, it seems.
MIA:
Blood From the Mummys Tomb
Straight on Til Morning
Hell is a City
Fear in the Night
Demons of the Mind
Lust for the Vampire
Dr. Jeckyl and Sister Hyde
To the Devil a Daughter
Scars of Dracula

You're right. I just remembered that they were all made back to back. If ABs going to bother making double feature discs, they might as well combine them in the ways they were originally released. At least they got the combination of Prehistoric Women and The Witches right, although in the case of The Witches I think it would be better suited with The Devil Rides Out.
If I had my choice, these would be the combos:
Dracula, Prince of Darkness/Plague of the Zombies
Rasputin, the Mad Monk/ The Reptile
Quatermass 2/Quatermass and the Pit
X the Unknown/ The Abominable Snowman
Satanic Rites of Dracula/Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires
The Lost Continent/Prehistoric Women
Devil Rides Out/The Witches
The Mummy's Shroud/Blood From the Mummy's Tomb
The Viking Queen/A Challenge For Robin Hood
I kind of cheated on the last two as Mummy's Tomb and Robin Hood aren't being offered, but frankly, I don't think The Four Sided Triangle, Shatter, or Vengeance of She are worth releasing again. It just looks like AB is spreading out the good movies across the most discs possible for no other reason than to sell more. That's pretty damned reprehensible in my book. I have no other choice than to boycott these things.

-- I don't think The Four Sided Triangle, Shatter, or Vengeance of She are worth releasing again--
Well, it's a shame to see any of them go OOP. However, if some of them WERE - then I'd add Viking Queen and The Lost Continent to the "deserving list".

My question, will they keep the special features/audio commentary? Still, even though I have all of them, must add these double bills to my AB collection!

We only have the current double feature packs to go on - but I'd wager YES. These will be straight copies of the original discs, in a different format (double-sided discs).

You might know this already, but it has been available for a while (as a single DVD, not as a two-pack). I bought it a few months back. The transfer is pretty good.

If they're copies of the original discs, it'll have it. Mind you, why you'd want it is another question. The US version was really hacked to death.

I don't have any of the AB double feature discs, but I assume they are "flippers",right? So since the original 7 Golden Vampires dvd is a flipper, I can't see how this newer release can have the US version of the film included this time around if Frankenstein Created Woman is on the flip side.
I could be wrong though.
I could never get rid of my original release because I have to have both versions of 7 Golden Vampires...I just flat out love that damn flawed but damn fun film!
Many is the the time my buddy and I have had the double feature of LOT7GV and Kung Fu Zombie. Nirvana indeed.

Jeeze guys...if you don't like the double features, don't buy them. I for one am happy to see the Hammer flicks being paired up at a bargain price, it sure beats paying $25 for "X The Unknown" by itself. Plus some of these (I think) are out of print, so it's good to have a second chance at them at a decent price. Who knows when someone will release any of the not-so-popular titles again.

I've never seen a hammer flick in my life, maybe this would be a good opportunity to check one or 2 out.. whens the street date?

I think so aeon! And the dates keep changin', but the last I saw was for yesterday, the 9th.
I would suggest the two Chris Lee discs, the Dracula double feature, and the Devil Rides Out/Rasputin double bill.

Is it definate that the Image doubles are the original Amaray cases wrapped together?
On an odd related note, an amaray case of mine actually broke one of my disks when i put it in, the clips sprung up, catching the centre of the disk and breaking the plastic!

at amazon it says they'll get them after December 24th. I hope they don't push it back any further than this. I've had a couple ordered for over a month now.

The after 24th date is just a cover our butt your not going to get this by Christmas date. Best Buy has the AB disc as being released 01/13/2004. So I guess were all going to have to wait till then to go broke.

Glad you liked FCW petey - it's one of my favorites, and I think it's a good overall representation of what Hammer was all about.
What's the packaging on these like?
Two seperate keepcases in a box, paper digipak (like AOD Boomstick), or a double keepcase?

I don't know any packaging lingo, but its the same set up as the 2-disc Two Evil Eyes dvd.

i work at Best Buy and we just got in all of the AB hammer double packs. they box they came in had no released date specified (usually theres a warning label about how breaking street dates will result in severe fines etc). i looked it up on our computer and it says that they come out on 1/6/04, but since most people i work with are retarded, its probably already out on the shelves at many Best Buys.

My guess is that it's actually Return of the Swamp Thing, since Image onlyowns the rights to that.
I don't know what's holding up MGM on a re-release for Swamp Thing, maybe they can't decide if they want it uncut or not. Someone somewhere IS working on a new Swamp Thing movie, so perhaps maybe they're holding off on anything to see if that gets a green light so they can ship out a special edition of the original.

For the 3 people that give a crap, I got my order in from DeepDiscount today.
BasketCase is indeed the SW version. It's in a keepcase and the cover art refers to an inside panel that doesn't exist.
Swampthing is of course Return of Swampthing (commentary, trailer and PSA) in it's own keepcase.
Both have the "sold as part of a set" over where the barcode would usually be. This might affect your trade ins with stores.
So anyway, 7.99 shipped for the 2. Awesome.

I'm still waiting on my order through DDD (order shipped on 1/26 and still no package). I hope like hell it arrives in the coming days while I'm off from work. :eek2:
I too ordered Basketcase from DDD a while ago and it too was in a keepcase though the site said that it was in a keepcase, so I didn't have an questions about that one. Still, DDD hasn't responded to my "Something Weird snapper/keepcase" question to the titles that were directed by H.G. Lewis.
