Does anyone know when one of the best horror movies of all time, Phantasm II, will get released on DVD? My tape is almost worn out. I'd also love to see some of those deleted scenes I've been hearing about. Also a nice commentary track by Don Coscarelli, Reggie Bannister, and James LeGros would be great along with some other goodies.
If anyone has any info on a Phantasm II DVD, region 1 mind you, please share.

It would be awesome to see the gore that was removed put back in. Damn the MPAA.. When will be able to see blood spray again, instead of green or another color besides red? I wish this puritanical phase that has enveloped this nation since the 80's would just go away!
Phantasm is a bit of a puzzle for me sometimes. Everyone of the movies end in such a way that to me there could be no sequel, as far as the characters who are so obviously dead but yet return.
Who owns the rights anyway? MGM?(barf)

No clue really, though the first one is awesome, definitely one of my faves. MGM's DVD is also pretty damn good.
I have the second one on VHS but I've only watched it once. It was ok, but I didn't like it as much as many others do.
"Have you ever seen Dawn of the Dead on weed?"
What movie is that from? It sounds really familiar, I remember a scene in Half Baked where Jon Stewart asks a bunch of questions then repeats them ending with "on weed?", but I don't think that's it.

I believe MGM does own it, but I'm not sure.
BTW, I was at the video store today and saw Battlefield Earth on DVD. This is complete and utter bullshit. They put crap like that on DVD, yet ignore the genius of Phantasm 2, what gives?
Maybe some MGM "bigshot" will be browsing these forums, see this thread, and get the ball rolling!! Hey, I can dream can't I?

Phantasm 2 and 3 are both owned by Universal. MGM only owns 1 and 4. Perhaps I could start a letter writing campaign or a petition to get Universal to release 2 and 3 on DVD.

They're owned by Universal? That explains why we haven't seen a DVD release of these two films yet. Though I haven't yet seen it, mainly because the video store in my town doesn't have part 2, I have been waiting for the DVD to be released. I really like the first one, which is the only Phantasm movie I've seen. Though with these two films being owned by Universal I doubt we will see a DVD of Phantasm 2 or 3. Not unless some other studio releases these movies on DVD because Universal hates horror.

Damn Universal!!
Someone organize a petition and I'll sign it. Maybe if they see how many people would hand over money for this DVD, they would actually release it.
Once again, damn Universal!!

Yeah, well I'd advise picking up Phantasm 2 before it goes for like $75 like the third does now.

AndrewBBD,
Credit goes to Half-Baked! That part is awesome, I just changed it a little.
Duh, that's right! Phantasm 2 was a Universal Laserdisc. I remember now. Shit, Universal, we'll never see phantasm 2.... Unless Anchor Bay could get the rights for it. Universal licensed AB Army of Darkness did they not? If they can, they should. AB would do it up right.

Well, you never know, Universal might come around - they're doing Halloween 2 as an SE, aren't they?
And as a Phantasm 2 fan, I'd sign that petition too...

DVD is in its infancy. Just becuase Universal have been bastards the past couple of yrs over their horror catalog on DVD, that doesnt mean we will NEVER see any of thier films on DVD. It is just going to take some time for them to come around, by either realizing there is profit in doing the Phantasm discs themselves or selling off the rights to someone else.
