News are from "Bloody Disgusting" (?)
According to Creature-Corner, they've received word from a reliable source of theirs that MGM plans on remaking Joe Dante's 1981 horror/comedy The Howling.

Why dont they just remake every fucking horror movie? Just take 30 years, don't make anything new, just remakes. Let Hollywood get it out of their system, then make new horror movies.

I thought the original Howling was ho-hum anyway so I would be interested in seeing a remake.

This may not be a remake so much as a new adaptation of the original novel. Maybe this time the movie will actually be faithful to the novel, as Dante's film really wasn't.

I love the original movie, and I do not really see a need to remake it. But they will do it anyway, and being the movie whore that I am, I know that I will end up watching it.

Yeah, not a huge fan of original, so remake by me is fine. Needs an update!
Isn't that basically what Howling IV was?

That is pretty much what I am thinking too.
Just don't remake the sequels. I am trying to block them all out. No picking at the wound darn it.

The original is probably my favourite werewolf film of all time. I don't mind the remake but I'm quite sure it won't be nearly as good. I'll probably go watch it since there's no way it'll be as bad as the sequels.

I love the original too much for there to be a remake. Terrible idea, just terrible. They just shouldn't "go there". Aren't there 10 unrelated sequels? Even then they couldn't get it right.
The original film wasn't faithful to the novel - which is a GOOD thing. The novel was only ho-hum and I don't think it would've made a good film as it was.
The ratio of Hollywood's access to millions of dollars to their lack of original offerings just sickens me.
Oh boy, when will the madness end?????

Oh man, I'm getting so fricking tired of this remaking in absurdum that I can't even work up a good irritation for this one.

After seeing the TCM remake, I'm all for 'em :) And believe you me, it is opening people's eyes' to the original films.

The Howling is neither so old that the kids of today can't find a decent video copy of it or is it so low-budget that it's become obscure by today's standards in FX and movie-making. Quite the strange film to remake in my book.

I doubt they'll be able to top the awesome transformation scene of the original.

Agreed. I suspect they're hellbent on "CGI-ing" the FX's so their is no way they're gonna top the original in any way, not as a film experience and not in the FX department.

The Howling is also my favorite werewolf flick out there; it holds a pretty special place in my morbid heart. When I first heard this news my blood began to boil...this remake trend will end...someday...I hope :)

Well once everything has been remade, we will probably enter into a re-remake trend, which may have already begun with The Fly. By the way, welcome to the board. :)
