Hi, people

I am surprised that nobody even mentioned that Anchor Bay is going to release their version of Bad Taste as the ultimate edition with THX and 6.1 DTS sound!!! Nobody is interested??? :) And they'll do that THIS YEAR, damn it! Wow! Here is their info:

Bad Taste - (THX, Dolby Digital 5.1-EX, DTS-ES, cc) - Late 2001
Bad Taste - Limited Edition - Late 2001

Aaaaaaaaaa!!!! The wait is almost OVER!!! They can't ruin our hopes for the great transfer!

Yeah, great news indeed. But I find it a little bit strange that at this point the only extra that's been announced is the Good Taste Made Bad Taste documentary. I'm just surprised that Anchor Bay hasn't announced the other extras by now.

Yeah, but wasn't the infamous Highlander also THX?

THX does't mean a stunning transfer. I'm putting more faith in Anchor Bay.

The lack of extras does concern me. News over at The Bastards Have Landed suggests that AB has not asked PJ to do a commentary and while some of "The Boys" were asked some time ago, there has been no followup.

Who said no one was interested? I am.

They just keep delivering the goods. As discussed in the Zombie thread, AB tend to be light on the extras but I think their presentation of films more than makes up for it.

Who in a million years would have imagined Bad Taste receiving this treatment (6.1 sound)? Unbelievable.

It doesn't get much better than this, folks!:D

Bad Taste with a 6.1 mix, and THX approved? Yup, it's the next sign of the apocalypse! BTW, the anyone know the exact date for them yet?

I know AB has a tendency to be a little weak on extras sometimes, but when they get them, they get the ones that count. I mean, who would have ever thought CHUD would get a commentary, or PIN, or of all films Madman. I like previews, and photo galleries, or badly written bio's (that we've all read before). But in the long run, a good transfer and a commentary are the only things with a lasting replay value.

While I do agree that a great transfer of the movie is the most important thing, I would like to see some extras on Bad Taste, just because it's my favorite and I'm selfish :D

But it's not clear if we're even going to get a commentary. That would be a real shame.

But there are plenty of other extras that would be nice and I think good for repeat viewing. There's something like 40 hours of film and there's a bunch of deleted scenes, including death scenes for all the characters. I think it would be interesting also to watch how the storyline evolved over time (there's footage of Barry turning into an alien, for example.)

Yeah, in the end a stunning transfer is all I really need. But it's a sad world if all you get all the time is what you need.

Well, isn't Peter Jackson pretty busy now with all the work on the Lord of the Rings movies? Granted, George Lucas seemed to find time to make a track for Episode I with his "busy" schedule, but I think Peter is doing more than George :)

Well said Connoisseur! After all, when it really comes down to it, most of us buy DVD's for the film and not the extras.

I remember reading some time ago on a LOTR-site, that Peter Jackson wants to do commentaries for all his movies, but that he wont have the time untill he has finished the 3 ring-movies plus the ordinary DVDs for these movies PLUS the special edition DVDs to be released when all three movies are out.

There is no reason for Anchor Bay to wait 3 years before releasing BAD TASTE, just to wait for a commentary. Btw. the documentary GOOD TASTE MADE BAD TASTE is really great.

Hey, one little doc is extra enough for me, I'll just be glad to have it. PJ is way too busy to do commentary, and the other guys I guess are pumping gas or something.

The only thing I dont look forward to is the throng of fresh 1st timers who will pick up the disc and complain about the picture...Cant you here it? "I bought this movie based on all the raves it got, and it looks worse than my granndma's home video recordings." Ugh, that always happens, just like all the people who didnt know about Argento, bought the DVDs and started complaining about the dubbing. Oh well, I'll be happy.

Well, I think production should be stopped on LOTR until the Bad Taste commentary is done. After all, Bad Taste is by far the more important work...

As for the other guys, most of them do seem willing to do one. Pete O'Herne and Craig Smith show up with some regularity on fan sites. And apparently they were asked some time ago about a commentary, but Anchor Bay has not followed up on the idea. That's what worries me.

But, if the picture is better than the awful Substance disc, I'll be happy.
