I think Phantasm 4 came out on dvd when it was released, since it came out pretty recently. It's not that they chose that over 2 and 3 it just came out after DVD was big. But really part 4 is a really good movie. I was suprised that each of the 4 movies turned out so good.

You really thought the 4th Part was good? I mean I have to accept that, but when I saw it, I was so bored! I waited the whole movie for the end. I was really dissappointed in it and you're actually the first I met who says it was good!?!?

But I guess everybody has different tastes right! ;-)

Yeah part 4 has been out for months, I only like the first 3.

I really wish Universal would get up off their asses and release 2 and 3 on DVD.

Yeah I did like part 4, I mean it's the weakest of the bunch, but still look at a lot of other horror franchises. I won't name names because everybody has their own opinions, but it remains to be a very good sequel to me none the less. I haven't seen it in a while or I'd give you some examples of what I liked about it. I'm getting it tomorrow so maybe I'll list some good points.

Phantasm Oblivion isn't the best of the series, but I still think its a good movie. I'd love to have the whole series on DVD. Maybe someday.

I think this is the whole reason the films are not being released. Pretty sad really...

I hated 3 and 4, why did they have to kill the women? The blonde chick from 2 could have just escaped in the beginning of part 3, they didn't have to give her a grisly death.

Yeah, I gotta agree IV was easily the worst of the series, and probably not that great a movie in general.

But as a true Phan it's well worth watching just to see the continuing story of Michael, Reggie and the Tall Man unfold.

Some scenes, like Michael as a Tall Man, make owning this one worthwhile in themselves.

Still, though, nothing compares to that first Phantasm DVD; aside from being loaded with outakes, interviews and commentaries, the sound and picture quality are so high you actually see and hear things that go unoticed on VHS.

Good stuff.

4 is out before 2&3 because 4 is owned by a company that cares enough to at least put it out there, whereas 2&3 are owned by jerks who unfortunately drag their feet.

It really is too bad it's IV being released. II and III both stressed seperately the elements of the original that worked best, horror and comedy, respectively.

IV, while keeping the story going, was rather undefined compared to II and III.

A bit off the topic but still. First time I saw Phantasm I wasn't that overly impressed with it but it has certainly grew on me. I think it's that kind of a movie. It's scary in a very subtle and personal way which doesn't strike immediately but sneaks up on you. What do you guys think?

Well, I was always a fan, but I saw it back when it first came out in the drive-in days, and it was a perfect late 70's drive-in late show kind of film. Over the years its kinda' paled, especially when Part 2 came out and was so superior in budget, moving the story forward, and being so self conciously funny. Now Phantasm is sort of a fond reminder of the good old days of freaky, low budget horror, the days before horror was just some carbon copy, direct to video crud like we've seen the past ten years.

You ain't bitter, are you? ;) Just kidding, I agree regarding the carbon-copies of movies we get these days.
