View Full Version : Millennium DVD News
If this is true, I will totally crap my pants. I've been wanting this for years now and MUST own this series on DVD.

About those Millennium DVDs you've been wanting...

Peter Staddon, SVP of marketing at 20th Century Fox, was kind enough to spend time last night at a live online chat, sponsored and hosted by the super staff over at The Home Theater Forum. He was asked a LOT of TV-on-DVD related questions, and tonight I hope to bring you the complete wrap-up.
Mr. Staddon was asked a couple of times about Millennium, and DVD releases for it. Staddon's replies were very positive, and made it clear in no uncertain terms that he is a fan of this show. Millennium has come up at these chats in the past, and each time Staddon indicated his desire to get it released. During this chat, though, it was explained that Fox was wanting to get finished with The X-Files DVD releases first, and also allow time for TV DVD to really take off so that a Millennium release will be better supported by consumers. He also mentioned that he had to "push this through some sceptical (sic) people in the office", and so he really hopes it sells.
So yes, indeedy...Millennium "will be out on DVD this year", in Staddon's own words. GREAT news, indeed. We'll let you know all about it, just as soon as an official announcement is made (probably a few months after X-Files - Season 9 is addressed, which should be soon, as that release is Spring 2004). Stay tuned!

I saw this yesterday and couldn't decide if I wanted to party or not. To quote you in the Family Guy thread, I will believe it when I see it. However, if it is true, I will be so damn happy. The show, the cast, the "you're way off on this one Franks." God, I loved that show, even more than the later seasons of the X-files. They can for sure count on me buying that.
Exactly... I'm like, on the verge of crapping my pants, is more like it. ;)
I love this show to pieces. It's just so goddamn bleak and somber in tone. I hadn't seen anything like it on TV at the time. The X-Files had its darker moments, but not to the level Millennium took it. Not to mention that the X-Files usually had at least one comedic situation in an episode, where Millennium pretty much took you down into the darkness and kept you there until the hour was up. Much more depressing than the X-Files, I'd say, with a grittier feel.
This all reminds me that I need to pick up Season 8 of the X-Files as soon as I'm able. Damn collections. According to this, Millennium should come out after the X-Files Season 9, which should be in mid-May. Hopefully it will come out before July so I can beg for this set for my birthday.
P.S. - When the hell are they gonna release the Lone Gunmen on DVD, anyway? :p

I absolutely loved that show!! The thing about it was that it changed every season, and the last season was getting horrible, so I saw why it was cancelled. The second season was AMAZING!! Kind of reminds me of Smallville. The first season peaked my interest, the second season was amazing, and the third season I could do without! Though, Millenium was definitely a far superior show!!

I believe the 3rd season was the way it was because Chris Carter was in control.
in season 2 Morgan and Wong had control and did an awesome job with it. they were waiting for news of a pickup for season 3 which happened but they weren't asked to be involved.(I read this somewhere, just can't remember)
Chris Carter claimed that they ruined his show and said it wasn't supposed to have any religious tones. he then went on to say that season 3 was how he envisioned the show(prior to the start of the 3rd season).
if you remember the show shifted about 15 eps. into season 3 for the better but it was too late. the ratings were down and the gradual climb in the ratings(after the shift) didn't save it.
plus I think Fox just didn't want this show anymore. too Dark and gloomy I guess.
I'll try to find some links on this stuff.
I think I remember reading all this in Entertainment Weekly. The story was called "Black Is Back" or something like that.

I am not religious in any way, but I loved that aspect of it. And my father, who's a devout Catholic, absolutely LOVED the show, because of it. It also helps that he likes Lance Hendrickson a lot, as do I! A genre favorite!

I missed most of this show when it was on TV, but I loved every show I managed to catch. This is great news if it pans out.
Hopefully, the MSRP won't be as high as the X-Files.
And man, Lone Gunmen on DVD.... *sigh*
I think one of the most memorable scenes in the entire series happened in the second season finale. It was this sort of psychedelic/freakout scene, as Patti Smith's "Horses" played, I believe in its entirety. I just sat there staring at my TV in amazement. I love that sort of thing, heh.

Oh, yeah, that scene was awesome. Kristen Cloke was great in Millennium. I loved the second season, when they started introducing all of the secret society/religion shit into the mix. Truly creepy stuff.
I'm on for at least the first two seasons. (Christ, I hope they price them like Buffy and not like the X-Files.)
They're also looking to putting out "Space Above and Beyond." Which was kind of a hit or miss series, but I'd buy the boxed set just to get the "Who Monitors the Birds?" episode. Creepy shit, again with Kristen Cloke right in the thick of it.

Yesterday we had a spate of e-mails sent to us, about Millennium (and Harsh Realm) on DVD. So we dialed Fox's phone number, and asked for the real-deal info about this.
According to Fox, Millennium: The Complete 1st Season will arrive in July 2004. They would not reveal the specific date yet. This will be a 6-DVD set, with 22 episodes and includes supplements (interviews with the cast and crew are known to have been recorded). List price is expected to be $59.98, but that's not set in stone yet. Stay tuned for more info, as soon as it's released.

Man, the third season was great and had some of the creepiest episodes out, especially the one with that serial killer coverup where the house got demolished. I still get shivers every time I hear the somg from that.

That's great news, not only for Millenium, but for Harsh Realm as well. I'll definitely be picking these up when they come out.
Millenium was a great premise, and Lance was cool as always, but for me, it had too much Chris Carter effect to it - meaning every show had good potential, but somewhat lame execution. You could always tell that something was sacrificed for budget constraints, and the work arounds were always lame in that they tried to appear clever or planned but really, you always knew what would have been cooler. That, and the episode-to-episode cliff-hanger thing got a little tired.
I may check these out, but from what I remember, my hopes will be nice and low.

Details of the release with the official package artwork were just posted here (http://www.dvdanswers.com/index.php?r=0&s=1&c=3799&n=1&burl=r%3D0%26s%3D1%26n%3D1%25E0%25A7%25B5).
And dvdempire has it up for preorder here (https://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_item.asp?userid=00000864087593&item_id=604919).
Ok, I tried not to get my hopes up that this release was going to happen, as I didn't want to be disappointed, but I can't deny it anymore. It is real, real, real, and I am one happy consumer.
Thank you for letting me get that off my chest.
HELL YEAH!!

I can't say that this will be a blind buy, as I can barely remember what little of the series that I saw, but it will be going in my Netflix Queue!

(was it on on friday nights?) but anyway, what a good show. i'm into it pretty well so far.

All 3 seasons of this show had a different feel. I like the 2nd season best. The 3rd was bordering on horrible, and that's why it got cancelled.

wrong,
it was canceled because people that weren't supposed to own televisions weren't tuning in, mistakenly

From DVDAnswers:
Fox Home Entertainment has announced Millennium: Season Two which stars Lance Henriksen. The six-disc package will be available to own in shops from the 4th January next year, and should set you back somewhere in the region of $59.98 in total. All twenty-three episodes of the second season will be included, along with audio commentary on "The Hand Of San Sebastian" by director Tom Wright, a second audio commentary on "The Mikado" by writer Michael R. Perry, a thirty-three minute "The Turning Of The Tide: The Making Of Season 2" featurette and a twenty-four minute "Academy Group: Victimology" featurette. I'm afraid that Fox has yet to release the artwork for this one, but we'll bring you that shortly.

I bought Season 1 and am happy to hear that Season 2 comes out January next year. But as I can't wait to get my hands on Season 1-3 I'll probably sell my Season 1 Box and pick up the Region 2 Complete Season 1-3 Box Set that is coming out in the UK on October 25th.

Yeah, I have the UK season 1 and 2. I wish they'd announced the 1-3 box set initially, before I got 1. But I guess, I'll live... At least I got them early :) I'll have season 3 later this month :P

I was just bitching about this not having a release date in the US while having one in the UK. So glad to see it being announced here. Season 2 is my favorite.
Just popping in here to give a head's up that Amazon currently has the first season of Millennium on sale for $14.99.
So if you've wanted this, and haven't picked it up yet, or are curious about it, now's the time to buy.
They also have a number of other Fox TV first seasons on sale for that price as well, including 24, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, The Simpsons, and Futurama.
I don't know how long this sale will last, but I'd advise acting on it now if you're interested. (I posted other titles in the sale/trade/coupons/bargains section.)

I loved this series, but was really disappointed when it took a strange turn for the worst after the "Pacific Northwest virus" finale.
