It's an interesting, and now classic slasher flick. The original opening is so much more then typical "psychological thriller" fare. The makers are only kidding themselves when they describe it as anything but a horror film. (similarly amusing are the makers of The Exorcist or Psycho calling their films dramas, whatever!) LOL. One that left us all wondering if she was really the killer. There was only a mild doubt, but it was there.

Anyways

The new DVD coming out is so cool. It will come packaged in an "ice package" and contain an "ice-pick" pen inside filled with red ink. A neat gimick, but one that I have to add to my collection.

Although I was disappointed by Basic Instinct on my first viewing, it's grown on me with repeat visits. Verhoeven's direction is stylish and the movie has some great moments, particularly the opening sequence and the car chase. I'll probably add this special edition to my collection, particularly if an audio commentary is included.

I read that there would be an unrated version and a commentary (finally) but I didn't read about that. Do you have a picture of it?

Wow!! Did Anchor Bay start a much welcomed trend? The special packaging DVDs?
I can't wait for the Basic Instict DVD. I kept the old VHS because I knew one day it would be out in unrated spec. ed. on DVD.

According to the sites I've seen details (DVDFile, my personal favorite, plus DVD Review) there will be two audio commentaries on the UR version. One from Verhoeven, etc., and one from "noted feminist critic Camille Paglia (!)" their words not mine.

Sounds interesting.

Besides, I love this flick, and I'm stuck with the UR on tape and the R on DVD.
