While I haven't compared the dvd to the unrated tapes. The box says R rated for both films. Those who have it confirm it's the r rated versions, but never mention what's exactly missing. Having only seen the uncensored versions, I can't say what lot to look for. The disc is dolby digital stereo and full screen.

Well at least it'd be a 1:1 replacement for my vhs copy (plus Waxwork 2!....I only own the first one in R rated)

There's been a few threads about the Waxwork DVD double-feature DVD somewhere on here before. It's a good deal for under $10, but don't expect high quality from an Artisan Release that isn't a hugely popular title. No special features at all for either movie.

As long as Michelle Johnson's scenes look good I'm happy

I thought Waxwork was a popular movie. Everyone I know has seen either one of them and liked them.

Feh, who knows?

Artisan and "Popular" is Terminator 2. DVD re-releases and special features $$$$

Well...they did put out a fully loaded Wishmaster 1 and 2 double feature.

aside from getting people to do a commentary there might not be much to put on a dvd for extras....anything filmed before 95-ish were filmed in an era where even laserdiscs weren't feature packed so why work on preserving anything for bonus features

There are trailers for both films, press materials, a making of featurette for the first film. There may be storyboards, production stills, outtakes, etc...

but how much still exists after what...16 years after it was released?

Deus may be right. Who knows. Dragon's release is definitely worth owning, however. The featurette is better than nothing. I hope they can do something good for Waxwork 2 as well.

Exactly. For the price it seems very cool. I dont have a tape player so just having them on dvd period is great. THey're both excellent. I hope it is indeed the unrated version. I think paul may be refering to the dragon disc though.

no i'm referring to the artisan disc. even home theater forum and a few other places say it's the unrated version.

i always thought waxwork 2 was released as only an r rasted version.

I think it was only an R-Rated film for the second movie...I've never heard of an unrated version.

I used to have a video for Waxwork 2. I don't know if it was unrated though... I remember it being quite bloody. Then i saw it on Scream Channel last year and it was edited down big time. (must be the r rated on Scream) The space sequence where the guy's helmet is smashed and his head explodes was gone. The sound fx for it are only heard. The Vid I had showed blood pouring from the hole in the helmet. I dunno what version is on the dvd though.

Yeah, the 2nd one also had an unrated release, which had all the gore . I really like then both, I think equally. Sounds like from all this info, I and anyone who likes the films should pick up this dvd.

I watch the second one just for Bruce Campbell's role as the parapsychologist. It's hysterical when he's tied to the beams in the basement...

i just through in the dvd and on during the space scene on the artisan dvd, they showed an alien or something pul a tube attached to a guy's helmet and then you see his head explode with a huge amount of blood bursting out. so i guess waxwork 2 in unrated on the artisan dvd too!

Over at The AV Club (http://www.avclub.com/articles/john-rhysdavies-on-indiana-jones-and-why-he-wanted,85044/1/), they sat down with John Rhys-Davies to discuss many of his roles over the years, and, yes, Waxwork came up!

Waxwork (1988)—“Werewolf”

JRD: Wasn’t that fun? Yes! Great fun, wonderful cast, and a great director. So, yeah, I had a lot of fun on that. The only time I’ve ever played a werewolf. I particularly liked the touch that I insisted on, which was that as his hands were gripping the desk, you could see the blood developing around his nails as the nails began to grow. I thought that was a nice touch. Actors: We’re stupid men, aren’t we? [Laughs.]

Oh, how I love Waxwork. Never really enjoyed part 2 though.
