NOTLD Trilogy Idea

plan to do what bruce is a moose, did, but my plan involves taking NOTLD, Dawn, and Day and putting them on one dvd, and putting the extras of all the movies, on a seprated disc. I am going to try to create menus for it in Adobe Encore, and edit the movie with Adobe Premier, what do u guys think, and what suggestions do u have, keep in mind that im abeginner at this so dont expect some fancy master peice, but i do have some small amount of experiance with premiere

I say take all that technology and edit the ultimate version of the Evil Dead trilogy...

By strategically editing the closing credits from ED, the first five minutes of ED2, everything after Ash gets sucked into the vortex in ED2 and everything before coming out of the vortex in AoD (preferrably the director's cut) you get one long 4hr+ film.

If you put all 3 movies on one dvd it will have to have the shit compressed out of it and look like total hell.

How about just wacthing them all back to back?

If anything, just make a neat box to store all 3 in. Having all 3 next to each other is enough for me. (well...till that newer Dawn set comes out.)

I've been planning on doing this for awhile now and have even taken some notes, but this month I'm finally getting a DVD burner. So along with my video in and editing software I'll have all the tools I need and all summer off from school to do it with.

I think the NOTLD trilogy wouldn't be anything special that way. It could be okay, but eh. EVIL DEAD would be PERFECT for that though, and I thought it was a fantastic idea from the start. Campbell re-inforcing this idea on the AOD commentary made me think it was possible.

Are you going to use SmartRipper, then DVD2AVI? Will your AVI's be uncompressed? With a single film, that's alot of gig's. With three flims, that's nightmare!

With the current 4.7 DVD-R's, your project will not have the results worthy of your efforts. I've been recording the Sopranos off HBO HD into Premiere and burning with DVD Architect, the result's are excellent for video since the episodes are only like 50 minutes long. The audio is pretty lackluster since it's going through analog inputs, I get a werid buzzing noise in the background.

Anyways, 3 movies on one DVD-R is way too much data for one disc, like betterdan stated before.

It's a great way to learn Premiere, no doubt about that - but you can't edit VOB files in Premiere. You need to put them into MPEG, AVI, Quicktime, etc..

Since DVD Shrink will only create the VOB files, you will need DVD2AVI to convert it to a editable format for Premiere. I found that DVD2AVI does not work well with DVD Shrink, it would crash 99% of the time. Now SmartRipper does a better job with DVD2AVI, I have yet to have any problems with them (finger's crossed).

If you use any type of compression for your files, they will be recompressed again in Encore. The result's will not be pretty.

Zombie359, I hope I don't come across like an asshole, your idea is very cool, but you will not have the space required on one DVD-R to make this work. I suggest once you get a DVD-burner, take a DVD and use DVD Shrink with the compression settings around 30% and make a DVD, if you find the result's watchable, go for it!

I don't think this would work well, because NOTLD is in black and white, so the transition from that to Dawn wouldn't be very good, IMO. Plus, all three films are obviously from the time in which they were made- when you see NOTLD you know it's from the 60's, Dawn is from the 70's and Day is from the 80's, so it wouldn't be very smooth in the transition at all. Oh and Poorlogic is right, the movie would be far too long to fit on one disc, especially since Dawn is over 2 hours.

i did this for the evil dead trilogy years back when i first got into horror.. put em all on one long play VHS.. think i've still got it around here somewhere.. quality is shit though :)

I used to have a BetaMax machine that paused on a dime.

I made a long version of the Evil Dead trilogy (using theatrical AoD) that was flawless.

i just tried that dvd2avi program, and i cant convert to avi, cuz the file that it makes is 0 kilobits

actually i just downloaded this program ImTOO DVD Ripper v2.0.12

which can be downloaded from http://www.imtoo.com/dvd-ripper.html it will convert a whole dvd to any format, such as avi, mpeg, divx, etc, i did a test run with it, i tryed to convert NOTLD to avi at an output size of 1.6 gigs, and it said it would take 24 hours :eek:

Halloween 1 & 2 would be perfect for something like this.

personally, i don't see the big deal. i couldn't sit through hours of a particular series without a break. but if you have the time to kill.... :D
