View Full Version : 800.com or Buy.com for Pre-Orders?

OK, as much as I pimp Buy.com, I've never actually pre-ordered anything from them. I've only bought one thing from 800.com before (Evil Dead II for $15!) so I'm inexperienced there. So, the time has come for me to pre-order Suspiria and The Wicker Man LEs, and the totals are the same at each site. Basically, I was wondering who would get me my DVD first? I know that when I usually order with Buy.com, I get my DVD within 4-5 days after I order it. I remember 800.com being quick, but none of this matters.

So, who will get it to me sooner?

Thanks.

I'd definitely go with 800.com on this one. I preordered THE BEYOND limited edition tin with Buy.com and I had a bad experience. They claimed that the title wasn't released and they weren't sure when they'll get a shipment. Anyways I waited a week until I cancelled the order and bought it at my local Suncoast. I had the same experience with preordering the HALLOWEEN 5 tin. I also bought that at Suncoast. I'd be weary with preordering from Buy.com. Have you tried Amazon.com, they're the best when it comes to preorders.

I would recommend DVD Empire (http://www.dvdempire.com) for getting pre-orders quickly. They usually ship pre-orders on Thursday so that it will arrive on the release date (Tuesday). Often, packages will arrive on Saturday or Monday.

In the past I've had problems ordering Anchor Bay DVDs from 800.com. They always blamed the delays on their distributor, but every other store had the titles in stock.

And Buy.com often has problems obtaining titles which will result in your order being backordered for weeks.

I'd also recommend checking out Best Prices (http://www.bestprices.com) which often has excellent prices on Anchor Bay titles (and Anime titles). And most of the time their shipping is very quick. If you're going to order both Suspiria and Wicker Man, then Best Prices is cheaper than 800.com and Buy.com by a couple of bucks. Best Prices is becoming one of my favorite online retailers.

Also, Best Prices will ship the titles as they become available instead of holding your order to ship complete. This is especially helpful when ordering titles from Anchor Bay who has a habit of constantly delaying/rescheduling release dates.

Umm, alright.

The first site you listed is too expensive, and the other one does not work.

Now I'm thinking about DEEPDISCOUNTDVD.com. How are they with pre-orders?

So I'll get The Wicker Man from DDD.com, and I guess I'll get Suspiria from Buy.com.

Go with 800.com

I have pre-ordered many AB LE DVDs there, and have all gotten them on the Wednesday after street date (Tuesday) with the execption of Halloween 5 which came on a Saturday due to 800.com didn't get their shipment in.

I have already pre-ordered Suspiria and Opera LEs from them.

And Buy.com is going bankrupt soon, so don't even bother with them.

I'd go with 800.com also. I ordered A Blade in the Dark for $20 with 2 day shipping. The Suspiria LE is about $30 with 2 day shipping, which saves you a hell of a lot compared to buying it in a store with tax.

I'm still waiting for my Deep Red/Tenebre double set to arrive from buy.com. I'll definitely look elsewhere for my next purchases... especially if they are going bankrupt soon.

800's service kicks ass, no doubt about it. However, so do DeepDiscountDVD's prices. DDD seems to be getting better and better on timing every time I order from them (I just got a ship confirmation yesterday on Scars of Dracula, but the street date is the 8th. I bet I'll have it for the weekend.), so I say, definitely go with DDD for Wicker Man, and 800 for Suspiria, or better yet, contact DDD and ask them to make Suspiria available for pre-order, like they did for me when I asked them to get Scars of Dracula for pre-order, as well as a few other titles. I'd ask, but I think they're tired of hearing from me by now!;)

Hehe, I asked DDD to put up Suspiria and Opera a week or two ago and got a response that said if they find it and get it in stock they will send me a postcard within 3 years (!?). They still haven't put 'em up yet, guess you got a magic touch Hyde ;).

Also, I ordered the Abominable Dr. Phibes from DDD like a week ago with their "free shipping" and it still hasn't come! Now I know why it was free, the shipping is 5-10 days!

The reason you didn't get your Deep Red/Tenebre is because they're backordered. As much as I love Buy.com, never EVER order anything that's backordered, because you'll never get it. If it's in stock, you get it within 5 days. Still have great prices BTW.

I pre-ordered Suspiria from 800.com and The Wicker Man from DDD. I think I spent $55 total.

Most of my pre-orders are going to DeepdiscountDVD.com, and if they don't have it I've been ordering from 800.com, Amazon, DVDEmpire, DigitalEyes or DVDPlanet - whereever it's cheapest.

Man, I use to buy from 800.com a lot!! Especially when they first opened. Their prices were incredible and STILL are. Though DDD with Free Shipping and sweet prices is gaining ground FAST!!

Haven't ordered from 800.com in a while. :(
