Davis DVD is reporting that Universal will be releasing Dawn of the Dead 2004 on October 5, 2004. There will be separate editions - one for the R rated cut (101 minutes) and another for the unrated cut (110 minutes).

They will be issued with 16x9 widescreen (as well as P&S) and contain DD5.1 tracks. Extras on the theatrical edition include feature commentary with director Zack Snyder and producer Eric Newman, 12 minutes of deleted scenes (with optional commentary), "The Lost Tape: Andy's Terrifying Last Days Revealed" DVD exclusive short film, "Special Bulletin: We Interrupt This Program!" broadcast news of the zombie invasions, "Surviving the Dawn" making-of featurette and trailers. The Unrated Director's Cut will include all those extras plus "Raising the Dead" makeup effects and "Attack of the Living Dead" memorable zombie kills featurettes, "Splitting Headaches: Anatomy of Exploding Heads" and DVD-ROM features. Retail is $29.98 apiece.

For $30 this might be a rental instead of a buy for me. I liked the new Dawn of the Dead, but not enough to pay $30 for it on DVD. I'll wait for Blockbuster to sell it pre-viewed, then I'll pick it up. For $30 I would expect a few more extras, maybe I'm just being spoiled by the release for the original Dawn of the Dead.

That is just the Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). Deep Discount DVD will have it for 18-20 and you can get it on the day it comes out at Best Buy for around 17.99. 29.99 is what it will cost if you buy it at Suncoast.

This Version I Mean The Unrated Dvd Will Be Totally Awesome But I Thought 23 Minutes Of Deleted Footage Would Be Inserted Into The Unrated Version Not 9 Minutes

Well sometimes deleted scenes may not fit in the film. Elsewhere on this board there's an example used with the new TCM: If the scenes with Erin pregnant were put back in it would change the entire movie as opposed to re-inserting gore scenes with wouldn't change the story.

Yeah, you're right. I might pick it up if I have the extra cash and it is only $18. I doubt I would go over $20 for it though. Who knows, I'm so bad when it comes to buying DVD's. What I say now and what I say when I have a DVD in my hands are two totally different things.

My name is Tom Servo and I have a problem...I'm addicted to DVD's. :(

I'll definitely be getting this. Nine minutes is still a lot of extra footage.

Indeed. You can do a lot in nine minutes. The wait is killer.

I'll get the unrated version, hell it's just in time for my b-day! And as for the $29.98 retail, don't forget that you can probably pre-order it on line or grab it from Best Buy for about 20.

The cover's kinda lame for the unrated version, but that's a minor quibble. Nice specs! I'm interested in Andy's lost tape and the uninterrupted news footage.

I'll be picking up the unrated disc. I really enjoyed this remake in the theater. :)

Ok, maybe it s US thing but why the hell would anyone buy an R rated version if you can get it uncut as well? Thats madness. Hope the UK edition will be uncut. Anyone know?

The R-rated version will be for places like Wal-Mart and Blockbuster, who have a "No Unrated/No NC-17" policy, although they do slip every now and then.
