Dawn of the Dead (1978) - I waited so long for a Dawn of the Dead DVD. The DVD looks to be great and I can't wait to go buy it.

I'm going to say Night of the Demons on this one. I love the original and have been waiting for it to come out on DVD for a while. I think The Funhouse and The F 13th boyx set are second and third on my list of the ones mentioned.

For me I think it's a tie between the Dawn of the Dead boxed set and the Videodrome SE. These are two movies I've been dying to get the special edition treatment for a long time. I'm also anxiously awaiting the Candyman SE. I used to want the Friday boxed set, but I decided I might not get it after all because I don't care for any of the films besides the first three and Part 5.

Dawn of the Dead. 2004... I love the original, but hell I already have several versions of it already. Anchor Bay can go fuck themselves with their incessant release upone rerelease upon rerelease.

I wonder when we are due another rerelease of one of their evil dead licences?

Videodrome SE, by far. Probably my favorite movie ever. Only thing is, I always feel bad getting new versions of movies. What to do with my old Videodrome DVD? Had to do this recently with the new Green Snake Mei Ah remaster. Totally worth it, though. That Tai Seng version wasn't so good.

Where the hell is Thriller: A Cruel Picture? I've been waiting 3 years for this flim to be released on DVD - I think it was Crome Entertainment who first planned to release it, but now it's in the careful hands of Synapse - can't wait!

I was just about to ask about Thriller myself. It would be a toss up between that and the Dawn box set.

I want them all pretty much but the Dawn box gets my vote.

Had to vote for the Hitchcock Collection, considering it had no votes (blashphemy!!), but the Videomdrome Criterion Edition and Candyman SE come in a close second and third. I could care less about the Dawn '78 boxset...amazing to be sure, but I don't really care for the film.

This was a touch choice between Videodrome and Dawn of the Dead, but all three cuts in one set clinched my vote for Dawn of the Dead! WHOO!

I had to go with Other since you didn't have Purple Rain listed. :D j/k

its a hard choice because I want/will get them all.

I would have picked the Friday set but it's looking less impressive as time goes on. So it's the Dead set for me. :)

Well, out of those, I'm going with Videodrome.

I have now bought four Hitchcock films, and I honestly find that I'm not really enjoying his work after the 40's. It never used to be that way, but now when I watch the later films, I get bored. The early ones are great.

I have no interest in Candyman (saw it a long time ago, and it made no impression then). Dawn of the Dead? Well, without saying it's better or worse (I've not seen it) I'd have to say that I'm much more interested in seeing the new one than I am in paying more money into the Romero film. I have a copy of the Argento cut, and it's good enough for me.

The Friday the 13th Box Set is a joke, and I just don't want those flippers. I have now bought all the ones I wanted on cheapo singles.

I'll likely get The Funhouse if the reviews on the transfer hold up. I have the Goodtimes version though, so don't feel as though it's something I have to get right away.

I have yet to see Ginger Snaps, although it's in my "too watch" pile. Still, not having seen the first, Ginger Snaps Back is nowhere on my list.

Night of the Demons I really know nothing about, to be honest.

Van Helsing - well, I can safely say I'm NEVER going to watch this. For me to get this film it would have to be sub $5. Given the reviews on it, that might actually happen, I suppose. I wouldn't jump at $10, though.

So there you have it from that list. Videodrome it is. It didn't win by default though, I'm really looking forward to it getting the Criterion treatment!

For me it has to be Dawn of the Dead 2004. I just love the opening 30 minutes of the film, so much chaos and carnage. IMO it's more apocolyptic (excuse teh speeling) than the original (and less dull at parts).

Damnit I actually voted for Ginger Snaps Back :eek1:

Oh well, the trailer looks great and reminds me of Brotherhood of the Wolf (which I consider to be a good thing  )

You did good, but Im not sure if DOTD78 will be the best disc to test your HT set.

Take ABs Day of the Dead, for example. It has DTS sound and stuff, but it rarely makes full use of the surround possibilities. THE BEYOND, on the other side, gives you some good jumps with thundecracks and groans coming from behind.

DOTD '78, closely followed by Videodrome SE. Honorable mention goes to Take Me Naked/ A Thousand Pleasures from Something Weird (can't get enough Findlay!)

I do wish they had setup the 5.1 better on Day of the Dead but, all is forgiven once the movie started. I couldn't believe how good it looked on the widescreen TV. AB did an awsome job and it's just great that finally all three movies are available with great DVD transfers.....no more lousy , worn VHS versions.

The Dawn set for sure... it'll be well worth the 50 or so bucks. I checked out the site for it and it doesn't have the box art yet. But they did have the disk art... and it is good times.

Night of the Demons by a landslide for me. I will not be double dipping for the Dawn of the Dead 4 disc, I'm happy with the single disc. Instead I will be saving for Deadly Spawn, He Knows You're Alone, Christine SE and even Orca, the killer whale.

I think I have to say Videodrome, especially out of Canadian pride :) The Anchor Bay Ent release of Dawn of the Dead comes close though, very close.
The truth is that Videodrome has waited a LONG time for decent treatment on home video. Dawn of the Dead waited just about as long, but has been released like 3 times and counting over the last 5 years or so.
I am sure that if I could afford to, I would include most of these titles in my shopping list.

STREET TRASH

My most anticipated are Night of the Demons, Terror Train, Bloody Movie, Creepshow 2, Thriller, He Knows You're Alone, Return of the Living Dead 2, The Deadly Spawn and Happy Birthday to Me (even though I don't know the specs on this disc or what the coverart is like...)

08-25-2004, 07:27 AM
I voted for the F13 boxset mostly because I love the series and held off on buying the single disc releases, so while I would absolutley love uncut versions I think it's time everyone faced the fact that Paramount doesn't give a flying fuck about horror or it's fans, and will NEVER release uncut versions or true SEs for ANY of it;s horror properties. :fuck: I'm fine with buying the set as a first time purchase but if I had all the single disc releases and had to double dip I would probably be madder.

I am also very much anticipating the DOTD boxset and again have held off on purchasing any of the previous versions because I figured Anchor Bay would eventually pull out a monster SE just like this. This will also make a great compliment to my Day of the Dead 2-disc AB SE. Sadly I still have yet to procure the NOTLD Milennium Edition so the trilogy of great SEs will not be complete until I do. :(
