Wow, I've been scared of this film, but it is interesting to note this release is coming at us, I had no idea. I wonder what's on it?

I'm very interested in seeing this. I originally saw it in Japan and have often wondered if it was cut.

Ahh Coolness! Have this on DVD-R, but will surely hunt down this release. :)
I really enjoyed another film by this director too... Black Sun : The Nanking Massacre.

The movie is a bit dull at parts but overall a good movie with some excellent gore scenes. If you seen the uncut version DDM you'd know it. I guess the only difference in this release and the old Japan shock release is the documentary.

I'm fairly certain is was uncut. I just thought that perhaps since I saw it in Japan, government censors may have had a field trip since officially, according tot he Japanese, this never happened.

I liked the movie, but it is slow. The doc seems interesting, however not enough for me to double dip.

I put off buying the disk, and then when it went out of print I still stayed stubborn and kept looking for it cheap. Nice to see my stubborness pay off.
I'll be picking this up for sure.

If the price is decent, I'm think I'm gonna double dip for the documentary.
Bloodman, The avatar is from Night Dreams. :)

Is the transfer anamorphic this time?

Well, I bought this and it arrived today. It comes in a very nice box with slipcase. The only extra is a bonus disc with a 50-minute long documentary about the facts behind the movie. I'll try and give it a look either today or tomorow and post my thoughts about it.
Chaostar : the box says "Widescreen Version" ... how can I know if a transfer's anamorphic?

So did you find out if it was anamorphic or not? I just bought the old Japan Shock version off of Mr. Foo recently but if it's anamorphic I may have to get it again. Who is putting it out and what region?

I ordered it from Absurd-online.dk (http://www.absurd-online.dk/shop/default.asp) for about $35 including postage. They don't ship to countries outside of Europe though.

I got mine from chainsaw video (http://www.chainsaw.demon.nl) in Holland. I think they ship worldwide. Their site hasn't been updated for ages, but they have it in stock and they work pretty fast.

Anyone who got this - what is the doco like? I already have the first japan-shock release so just trying to work out if it's worth it - I'm more interested in the subject of the movie, not the gore, so are hoping it's a good doco - is this new one just the same first disc, but now with the extra second disc?
thanks in advance

The Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang is a good book to start with. Keep in mind that she does not speak read or write Japanese so while some of her numbers have proven to be false, due to faulty research becuase of the lack of language skills, the overall subject matter is accurate.

Just to follow-up on the above post. Iris Chang was found dead today in her car... self inflicted gun shot.

Father Christmas brought me this double-disc set and I decided to give it a whirl last night.
As I posted, oh, many years ago, this movie was showing at an all-night video show during a 3 day Fantasy Film Festival I attended in the UK back in '91. I fell asleep and kept waking up during MBTS. Funny thing was, I'd always wake just at the moment something nasty was being shown. I woke at one point during the cat scene....this scene hid away in my subconscious for a full 10 years...I only remembered it when the DVD was originally announced. Disturbing stuff indeed.
Watching it all the way through for the first time last night, I found the film very powerful. I felt real sympathy for the mute boy. Terrible, terrible goings on.
I've mentioned this before but I highly recommend this article:

It's an excellent interview and well worth a read. In fact, I'm off to read it again now...
