Adding to an already packed fall horror DVD slate, Columbia will be releasing John Carpenter's ode to the automobile, Christine, in a new special edition. The new disc will street on September 28th. Already released in bare bones years ago, this new disc will be full of fresh new supplements. Here is what to expect on the disc:

Audio commentary with John Carpenter and Keith Gordon
Three featurettes by Laurent Bouzereau
20 deleted scenes
Filmographies
Bonus trailers

The picture and sound look to be the same as the previous disc (2.35:1 anamorphic, DD 2.0), but those extras should be more than enough for Carpenter fans. Retail will be $24.95. Thanks to DVD File for the scoop.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of the film, I'll definitely upgrade from my barebones for the Carpenter commentary alone.

One of my favorite King adaptations by one of my favorite directors. The audio commentary alone makes this a must have for me. Finally!!

I'll definitely watch it, but I've never liked the film enough to go out and buy it. Shame Kurt Russell isn't involved, I love it when he does commentaries with Carpenter. :p

They should've invited him anyway. ;)

I can't wait for this release. It will be nice to have the new anamorphic transfer. I wish it would have included the following: The Bad To the Bone video with movie footage, the trailer, the radio spot, TV spots and 5.1 audio. I have found a back cover scan and a menu capture. I hope a future release has the Christine trailer as a bonus trailer.

I was going to pick up the barebones disk a month ago, glad I waited! I wonder if the cover will be holographic... I like shiny things. :fire:

rhett, the picture will not be the same. For the Special Edition the picture will be Remastered in High Definition (HD).

After seeing that there will be 20 deleted scenes, I am most definitely buying it now, and commentary with John Carpenter.

HD, DiviMax etc etc. I havent really noticed any difference in biterate or clarity compared to "the old DVD transfers"
just a note. I will double dip for the deleted scenes

All over this with a happy double dip.
Old one is now up for trade for anyone who doesn't care about the extras!

Review / comparison with the old release (http://www.dvddebate.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=4714&mode=flat&order=0&thold=0).

Seems like Columbia TriStar did some fine remastering job. Can't wait to get this one.
