Just bought it. It is entitled "Chromosome 3", has an AMAZING anamorphic transfer, interviews of the man himself and Howard Shore, a small documentary on Cronenberg's films (in french of course) and some critic's view on the BROOD.
The sound is clear with some hiss but does the job quite good - though it goes out of sync for 15 seconds of something (not a big deal really).
I know that a shitty UK DVD was released years ago, but this is the version to seek out.
Oh, yeah, you do get these french subtitles but I don't mind about that at all.

Almost forgot to point out that it is a great movie, probably the best of David's early period. He actually said Martin Scorsese that it was his version of KRAMMER vs KRAMMER!!!

A lot of players (mine included) don't get the french subtitles. Try setting up your player defaults WITHOUT ANY DVD in it, and set the default language to English, and default subtitles to english. Worked like a charm for mine, and others.

BTW, the picture is good, but it is flawed. Where there are saturated whites, the black level on the scan lines don't match the surrounding black levels. I have a picture at home I can post (captured using powerdvd). I found this pretty annoying. It happened on both software and hardware players, on PC monitor and TV, so it is definitely on the DVD, not my setups.

Saw the film again.
Couldn't notice anything bad with the picture but maybe you are looking for things that are not clearly noticed if you are not an expert on the subject. i find the picture stunning and surely beats a lot of other dvd's I have. Haven't tried your trick yet.
I'll let you know how it went!

Notice the band of lighter pic that ruins the scan lines that the light is on - it even effects the base black level of Oliver Reeds face...
