Wow, just as I started a thread mourning the lack of US cheese on DVD, R2 announce that on 18th of October, Night of the Demon is coming to DVD. Not only that, but Play have it for 5 UK pounds, less than $10. Okay, so it'll likely be a bare bones release, but I can live with that!

This movie HAS to be seen uncut. With nightbeast coming along too, things suddenly look bright! I don't know if this one is uncut - but the time given is about right. My only worry is that this is a Vipco title, and their VHS release was cut by 1m 41s. Fingers crossed for this classic!

I saw this in a friends house when we skipped school for a day back in the early eighties.
For a fiver count me in.

Just my luck! This one's finally coming out and me without a region-free player!
Well, it's great news for you folks on that side of the pond. A favourite of my friends and I back in the 80s, with a decent amount of gore.
Always made me think twice about peeing in the woods.

I am with Damage on this one-no region free player here either, but I would love to see this one again. One of the very few movies to show a bigfoot with some balls! (Quite literally after he rips them off of the one guy.)

Love this bigfoot film too, but the VHS prints I have seen all look like crap! Wonder how it'll look on dvd??

this DVD might be cut, considered the vipco vhs re-release was cencored by the BBFC.
nevermind, I just checked the BBFc site, it is cut, its the same running time as the cut version.

Damn.... I remember this movie from when I was a kid. I don't have a region free player either. Any chance of it ever getting released over here? I sure hope so.

It better get a good R1 release. Of course, I bet no one knows who owns the rights to it.

I have the VHS , well the box cover is in bad condition but the movie still looks new . I guess you can't go wrong with 5 pounds , i might even have to pick this one up . This movie is beyond cheese , and what about that acting - Oh Boy . I hope it has extra's with a commentary track , that would be cool .

I watched the Vipco disc last night!
I have promised myself two things: a) I won't buy Vipco, and b) I won't buy cut movies.
Anyway, there I sat with my purchased Vipco disc of the cut version of Night of the Demon, and I was a very happy chappy :)
Of course, the reason is no-one else worldwide seems to be in any rush to give us a better version of this film, this despite its monumental greatness.
Watch the man with the dirty rug strapped to his back run through the forest!
Watch the hilarious dubbing of a couple making out in the back of a van:
"Ooooooo"
"Arrrrrrrrr"
"Ooooooooooooo"
"Arrrrrrrrrrrrrr"
"Ooo"
"Arrrrrrr"
"Oo"
(I go away to get a beer, come back three minutes later)
"Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"
"Ooooooooooooooo"
"Arrrrrrrrr"
"Oooooooooo"
"Arrrrrrr"
"Oooooo"
"Arrrrrrrrrr"
"Ooooooooo"
"Arrrrrrrrrr"
Watch the man get beaten with his own arm.
Watch the extras pretend to be devil worshippers.
Watch a biker lose his manhood!
Watch as two girl guides stab each other to death - involuntarily!
Watch watch watch!
Man I had a laugh riot with this film, which fortunately was every bit as great as I remember it being all those years ago. In turns stupid and dumb, it's 90 minutes of pure cinematic heaven. It's so wrong, it redefines right.
As for the disc - it's poop. Everything is wrong with this.
As for the cuts, well unbelievably it doesn't look like Vipco resubmitted it, so we're 1m 41s short of a dollar. One scene, that biker scene, it utterly ruined. The rest suffers too
Still, once a better version comes out, I'll be all over it, the fact is, I adore this film - and I broke all my personal rules to get it. Lovely!

so the infamous biker scene is edited??!!

Hell yeah, in fact, to be perfectly honest with you - unless you'd seen the uncut print way back when - you'd hardly know what is going on
I know I know.... losing that cheesy moment is enough to make you want to stay away! However, there is a mountain of cheese here, not just one or two bits, and the rest ain't so badly cut....
I just couldn't stay away, sorry :(

I really don't want to spoil anyones enjoyment of this DVD but.....
As though there isn't enough cheese in the film, Vipco go to..... 11.
The first image you see in this post is an entry under "Bonus Features - Filmography". Fascinating!

As you can see, this was a feature that will take a while to ponder, take in, and digest. There's just sooooo much to know!
Vipco also spent a lot of time making sure the Gallery of images they included was top notch. Here are some examples:

And finally, a screen capture from the opening scenes of the movie. All you anamorphic, hi-def, wannabe film critics will - I am sure - appreciate the extreme amount of effort Vipco had to go to in order to find the best available elements - and fuck them up :D

Holy shit, this sounds just up my alley!!! Maybe when Grindhouse releases PIECES they will have time to make a SE of this one as well. It sounds like it might be along the same lines...which is a wonderful thing. :)

I think of this as part of a trilogy of films that arn't linked, but all have the same tone and level of filmaking competence:
1. Night of the Demon
2. Nightbeast
3. track of the Moonbeast
I have all of them on DVD now, albeit cut. It's movie goodness.
As for Pieces, yeah, I'd say these are in the same vein. Unlike you though, I gave up anticipating Grindhouse releases a long time ago. When they come out great, but the damn wait is painful ;)

Look, when they spend this amount of creative energy on the menu:

And ALSO, invest tons and tons of time into the great cover:

Well, it's hard NOT to buy it, isn't it. It's so...... compelling.

Well I should have my region free DVD player soon, so I think I'll have to check out this film. It sounds good for a laugh or eight.

A guy on Rue Morgue's forum has the copy from ebay, and he says that it is uncut and the picture quality is a step up from the old vhs release, so it might be a good way to go until there is a legit release. I am sure Shriek Show would bring it out.

Terrified audiences around the world? WTF?!?!?
I remember seeing this when I was very young as a rental with some of my cousins & friends & damn we had a ball LAUGHING at the idiodicy of this sh*tty movie!
No offense to everyone as everyone has their taste & this might be top notch to some of youse...but I'll be damned if I'd buy it even for $1 for a R1 version with extras...it was THAT bad!

It's cheaper and at least they try to do some semblance of presentation.
No region worries, either.
