G'day all, just wondering what your opinions on Region 2 DVDs were. I'm going to order Shaun of the Dead from amazon.co.uk and wanted to make a list of DVDs that I should get with it so as to save on shipping.
Of course I am getting Shaun of the Dead, I also heard that Braindead (US titled Dead Alive) is the best DVD version there. Now I never saw the House movies, but they have a box set containing all of them which looks nice, any recommendation whether to check it out or stay away from it? I already have enough Evil Dead dvds here, lol, so although the box set over there looks nice, being a box set and all, gonna have to pass on it. Oh Oh Oh! Has anyone seen the new Hellraiser 1-3 box set coming out there? Its in a puzzle box cube! Now that I gotta have!!!! Hrmm... well, what are your thoughts? Any recommendations, advice about R2s, or R2 dvds that I have listed that are not as good as the R1, let me know.
Thanks,
Arkiliknam

This version http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B00004WZWB.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg of AP is completely uncut, and has some great deleted scenes. It's too expensive to order straight from amazon, but some used ones are cheap. Or it's only 6.99 (GBP + shipping) from www.sendit.com which is a good site as well (used to be blackstar.co.uk, I've ordered a few discs from them).

those are the R2 discs i bought...
of them i'd say They Live is a good one to get as it has a commentary.. though i'm not sure what the current R1 disc is like... I got the R2 ROTLD3 because it was uncut and open matte.. The Dead Next Door is also great but i think its coming out in R1 later this year.. you're right about braindead/deadalive being better in R2
i also have killing zoe R2 but thats a french one

Depends what you like. R1 is still waiting for:
Blood on Satan's Claw
Twins of Evil
Vampire Circus
The R2 Evilspeak had two versions of the film. The R2 Creeping Flesh has a Chris Less commentary. The forthcoming box set of Hellraiser I through III looks stunning. Sante Sangre in R2 is awesome.
There's a lot of R2 things that are better or unique, but to list them all is difficult ;)
the region 2 dvds of they live, prince of darkness and starman have commentary tracks with john carpenter and the actors in those films.

The SANTA SANGRE 2 disc set is one of the best discs around, period. Great stuff ! ALLIGATOR special edition is excellent as well(dbl feature).
If your looking for a film thats been or is being released in the states that has a much better release in the UK ,look no further than the FRIDAY THE 13TH 1 Uncut. We'll be getting the cut version (in the US) in the upcoming boxset so its definitely worth a purchase .

Excellent! Thanks for all those, Dead Next Door is a movie I've been wanting to see for a long time (actually, I'm in Australia, so I get hardly anything good here, usually import from Canada).
Also, anyone know if the R2 Bad Taste is any good? I think the cover sucks, haha, and pretty sure that the R1 one is better, and think I heard a new edition is coming out soon.
Oh, and thanks for those links, I'm checking them out now :D Very happy!
BTW, Dawn of the Dead remake is coming out here in Australia about 3 weeks early than in the US, and I think the cover is better personally :P, and its cheaper for me too, and the DVD looks pretty much the same as what the rest of the world is getting. http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/227653
Thanks again, and if you can think of any other must get R2s, let me know. Still interested whether House is good or crap... :)

The new edition of Bad Taste is going to region 2, and features-wise will be the best release.
You can get They Live and Prince of Darkness with 5.1 sound and more extras then the common region 2 from France. I got em through amazon.fr, they should still have em, but they ain't cheap.

The new edition of Bad Taste is going to region 2, and features-wise will be the best release. What's on the new release? If there's a commentary I may be tempted to get it, but at the same time that'd be $20+ for a commentary.
As for R2 discs, CUL-DE SAC and REPULSION are out from AB UK, and they're both fantastic discs with some nice features to boot. Not very expensive either. They released both of them with KNIFE IN THE WATER (and a bonus disc with some Polanski shorts) in a nice box set, but the Criterion KNIFE IN THE WATER disc is excellent on its own and has some great extras as well.
SANTA SANGRE is great, as mentioned above, and Tartan has released some good Bergman stuff that isn't available stateside, most notably THE VIRGIN SPRING.

A few bad hands gave me time to find I was mistaken. It's region 4.
Here's the thread. (http://www.horrordvds.com/vb3forum/showthread.php?t=20647&highlight=bad+taste)

Ah okay, thanks. I would have searched but I didn't recall seeing that here. I think I'll pass though, I was more interested on Jackson's thoughts of the film.

Speaking of importing DVDs, where do you guys all get them from? As I mentioned before, I'm in Australia, so American importers wouldnt be too usefull for me, as I'd have to then get it imported again.
At the moment, for my region 1 dvds, i use www.dvdboxoffice.com or www.amazon.com , but boxoffice has free shipping and have been buying from them for a few years now.
I havent imported from elsewhere yet, but if I was going to get R2 dvds, I reckon www.amazon.co.uk for its discounts, or sendit.com if the prices are the same (as shippin is cheaper).
Anywhere to import Hong Kong dvds? Coz I read that the best most uncut edition with good sound and picture of Army of Darkness is available there. I've gone through 2 vhs copies and 3 dvd copies now and still am not satisified. My favourite version is the first video version I saw of it when I rented it 6 years ago.

I would have to say "Yo Soy La Justicia" which is the R2 version of Death Wish 2. Its Uncut, and widescreen.(The R1 dvd is cut and full screen) Anyway, I did a Yahoo search on it, and came up with this review, in Spanish, and I think that the reviewer is actually a poster here.

Also the R2 dvds of Hills Have Eyes part 2, The Gate, and Pumpkinhead are superiour to the R1 releases. And the upcoming Hellraiser Boxset looks to be a winner.

sendit has always been good to me, and either they or bensonsworld.co.uk are always cheaper than amazon.uk. If they ship to you and you don't have to pay customs either one would be good. Check both for best prices as they are just so far off sometimes.
You can also check out www.happyhunter.com for more sites and cheapest price to your door. If something looks good come back and ask for a recomendation.

Another vote for www.bensonsworld.co.uk - fast and easy. I ordered two DVDs from them, one of which was backordered, and got both with no problem at all. They also seem to usually be the cheapest and have damn good deals occasionally.
