After being long out of print, the much sought after early Romero masterpiece, Martin, will finally see release again on November 9th. Lions Gate Entertainment will be releasing the film with a few notable special features, some new and some from the old Anchor Bay disc. Retailing for a cheap $14.95, here is what to expect on the disc:

1.33:1 Full Frame (which is the original aspect ratio)
Dolby Digital 5.1
Audio commentary with George A. Romero, Tom Savini, and John Amplas
Photo gallery
Trailer
TV spots

While the commentary will be ported from the old Anchor Bay disc, there is no word as to whether the video will be newly restored or not. Still, this will be a great find for those looking to find a good copy of this obscure Romero gem.

I hope they port over the original mono soundtrack aswell. If they do then I will prob buy this, being as I don't own the Anchor Bay disc.

I already own the AB disc, which I purchased cheaply off of eBay shortly before I heard about this reissue, but I'll probably buy this one, too.

Is it going to have the old cover?

Here is the actual cover of the Lion's Gate release, which is damn nice cover art in my opinion.

Also, there will be a 5.1 track on this release. We spoke to Lion's Gate at Horrorfind and they said that Rubenstein and Gornick had recorded commentaries so lets keep our fingers crossed on that. The DVD is dual layered as well so there is at least some hope for a better transfer.

Thanks for the information, ekent. I've updated my post to reflect what you've said. I think that is a great cover, certainly better than the old Anchor Bay release. Although the vampiric razor that says "Made in USA" on the old VHS is probably my favorite. I love the sub-heading on the new one though: "A vampire for our age of disbelief". I can't wait for this disc.

Wow that cover is much better than the one on AB's edition of the movie. However, I don't think I'll be double dipping and buying this one. I already have the AB one and it's good enough for the time being. I would like to have a poster of that cover, though.

If there is a new commentary or new transfer i'll pick it up otherwise i'm fine with my AB copy.

I guess I'm in the minority here but that new cover sucks and the old AB release cover blows it away. Anyway, I can't wait to get my hands on this new release... best "vampire" movie ever made, IMO.

Wow, I really love that new cover. The red and grey/black tones definitely do it for me, more so than the purple and yellow of the old one.

That was my response as well. I don't like this cover at all.

I'll be getting this, one of my favorite of Romero's. Like to know more about the transfer, hope it's better than the AB version. Sure would be nice to see that 3 hour version rear its head sometime in the future, if any such version of that still exists.

Here's a homemade cover I downloaded a while ago, based off the original poster. The best looking one in my opinion.

Will definately be picking this up when it's released, as I too missed my opportunity of picking up the AB version. Broke at the time.

No, you're not the only one. I think the old cover is much better.

I wonder if the image quality is gonna be improved. The AB one had some terrible compression issues, especially in dark scenes where there is terrible pixellation...

According to a Fangoria (http://www.fangoria.com/news_article.php?id=2982) article, there's a new transfer, along with a new commentary by GAR, Richard and Donald Rubinstein, Tom Savini, and Mike Gornick. The old AB commentary has also been ported over.

Wow this new cover art look superb!
I'm soo so sorry to those people who think the original DVD art from AB looks better, you may be retarded.
Purple and yellow always go together!

That custom cover is great. I wish they'd have chosen that for the new box art. Add me to the ranks of those who just don't like the new art. There's something about it that is just too "horror movie" for my taste. Martin is a film that goes above and beyond the moniker of horror.

Being that Martin is easily one of my favorite movies ever, I'll almost certainly pick up the Lion's Gate release. Let's just hope there actually is some improvement over the transfer and some added special features.

Nope, no insert. Neither did Dead End. Expect it in a $10.99 disc, but a $19.99 disc, come on?!

Could someone please post some screen caps comparing the new 1.85 Anamorphic DVD to the orignal full frame Anchor Bay DVD? I believe that some unnecessary matting is being used on the new release.
