With SHAUN OF THE DEAD and RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE storming up theatres now, and Romero's next zombie film looming on the horizon, the living dead has become a viable sub-genre as of late. Movies like 28 DAYS LATER and the DAWN remake have proven the popularity of the sub-genre with big numbers, and it looks like post-mortem pictures will continue on in the spotlight for some time now. So of all the recent zombie films, which one is your favorite?

Shaun of the Dead. I haven't see Resident Evil 2 yet, but the rest can't even compete with Shaun.

hell ya!

Shaun Of The Dead, no doubt. The most clever and funny zombie movie of them all (well, I haven't seen RE2 yet, but I don't think it can beat Shaun).

I voted for "Dawn '04". I have not seen "Shaun" yet. RE:A was a disappointment . And "28 Day's Later" isnt even a zombie movie.

28 Days Later. But, RE : Apocalypse was quite decent (way better than the 1st one, IMO).

Agreed. And really, who the hell cares? Okay, so they are living people that like to eat someone elses flesh....

Dawn followed by 28 Days Later. I have yet to see Shaun. I enjoyed both RE films but they will pale to Dawn '04.

btw, how come "House of the Dead" is not on this poll? It is also a recent "zombie" film.

That's a tough question. I really enjoyed the Dawn remake and 28 Days later, but Shawn was fantastic. My vote will have to go with Shawn at least until the Dawn remake comes out with the uncut version.

I don't know how I forgot this, since it was partially the reason why I started this poll. I added it to the list, thanks for the reminder.

Shaun of the Dead - (Haven't seen it / not near my location.)
Resident Evil: Apocalypse - (Haven't seen it.)
Dawn of the Dead (2004) - (AWESOME!)
House of the Dead - (Haven't seen it due to the vast majority doggin' it.)
28 Days Later - (NOT a zombie movie / they don't eat anyone, they starve)
Resident Evil - (It was just ok.)

I went with Dawn '04.

The first person to pick House of the Dead is worm food, right? That's the whole reason for this poll...admit it!

I have to go with Dawn remake on this one. But, 28 Days later was awesome for the first half. The 2nd half just didn't live up to what they had set up.

Shaun of the Dead is my favorite, followed by 28 Days Later. I also really like House of the Dead, because it is so bad it is legend.

tough choice... and in no particular order i liked Dawn 04, Shaun and Resident evil.. the rest i could go either way with.. or haven't seen (RE2)

actually.. you *DID* say favourite.. i'll go with the middle bit of shaun (from where they discover the zombie in the backyard up to the winchester).. and the first 10 minutes of dawn04.. they really need to make a film that is great fun from start to finish.. shaun came close i guess

I haven't seen Shaun yet... hope to later this week. I enjoy all the films listed in the poll except for House of the Dead... damn that movie sucks. However, my 5 & 7 year old like it so perhaps it has a market somewhere. Voted for 28 Days.

Shaun all the way. RE: Apocalypse was terrible. Dawn was a joke(Doesn't deserve the title). 28 days was a good infected film but it shouldn't be on the poll. Yeah I'm curious to why House of the Dead wasn't on the poll?

I liked Dawn 2004, hated 28 days later, and loved Shaun. So I vote for Shaun. RE2, you couldn't pay me to watch that filth. Im a big fan of the videogame, but the first movie was so stupid, the thought of another one seems impossible.

Shaun of the Dead without a doubt is the best...TOTALLY evokes the spririt of the original Night of the Living Dead, from the news reports and the bits in the background to the way the zombies move and act. Very creepy, yet hilarious in spots too. Dawn of the Dead 2004 comes a close second. House of the Dead was an embarassment to sit through...

Shaun of the Dead by far. I'm going to see it a second time this week. I was totally dissapointed with 28 days later. "Reinvent the Zombie horror film"? The plot is total dead alive and those zombie eyes are straight outta Let Sleeping Corpses Lie. It's been done with alot more character. Dawn and RE are fun action flicks but are not in the same class as Shaun. Not even close.

I just came back from seeing Shuan. It was good but not great. Bottom line is I don't want any comedy in zombie flicks.

looking forward to going to see Shawn tomorrow (last weekend was just far too busy). I voted for Dawn b/c haven't seen Shawn yet, but I hope it is better. House was good for some laughs and for Clint Howard, the first Resident Evil was poor and I won't see the second until DVD, and 28 Days was an absolute piece of shit- I still can't believe that people like this thing!

My nod goes to Dawn, looking forward to the director's cut. As for 28 Days later I didn't like it much either but sorry to say, it's not a zombie movie. There are no living dead or zombies as it were in this movie. It was a virus outbreak story. You get infected by the blood, 20 seconds later the virus filled them with rage. Therefore the concept of zombies running in this film is incorrect. It was just infected folks.

Yep, even the director say's that it is not a zombie film. But hey, I'm not arguing. :D

*Really* hesitant about SHAUN since it has comedy in it [I hate Dead Alive for example--I think it has more in common with Monty Python than George Romero] but will give it a chance. I think it's pretty safe to say that nothing will come close to DAWN [2004] for me, which has been the only horror film I've seen in years that made me feel as creeped out as the films of the 70s and [early] 80s. The movie was far from perfect, but it still worked for me as a horror film, and few films released over the last decade or so have done that for me.

The big problem I had with 28 DAYS LATER wasn't about whether it was or wasn't a zombie film, it was that the second half of the movie was so lame. I think it's a case study of what happens when filmmakers who don't normally work in the genre try to make horror films. I almost NEVER take bathroom breaks during movies, but with 28 DAYS LATER I had no hesitation in stepping out to take a whiz about three-quarters of the way through it, because I knew I wasn't going to miss anything interesting.

I have to still give the DAWN remake a slight edge [just because it's not a comedy] but it's very, very slight, because SHAUN was just as good in a lot of ways.

I would say that the plot is quite different from Dead Alive. One of the few similarities that I see are the monkeys, but Dead Alive has a "rat-monkey" that turns people into zombies whereas 28 Days Later has infected monkeys that infect others with "rage."

Also, how do you spell the plural of monkey?
Monkeys? Or monkies? Or what?
