Title says it all. The good news is that this is open to readers around the world. Read on for details.

We're looking for some good writers. So much so that we're going to be handing out some gift certificates for those that are up to the task.

The first certificate will be for a reputable online DVD store of your choice in the amount of $40. It will be given to the person that writes a horror related article for the site. One article will be chosen by readers to become our 'Featured Article' for the month of January. The author of the featured article receives the gift certificate. It's that simple.

How will this work? Just write an article on a horror related topic of your choice. The article should have a beginning that states the point of the article, followed by the body, and then the conclusion. I'll just throw out some possible topics: Slashers, Zombies, The Career of Romero, The Abundance of Horror Remakes (your like or dislike), The Current State of Horror, Asian Horror, Japanese Horror, 50's Horror, 70's Horror, 80's Horror, Universal Monsters, etc. Choose a topic that you are passionate on! There is no requirement on length, so feel free to make it as long or as short as you would like. Don't go too long and make it boring, but don't make it so short that you don't get any points across either. Do whatever you think is going to get the readers to vote for your aticle.

The next three certificates will be in the amount of $20 each and will be given to three people that write DVD reviews which become posted on the site. Again the readers will vote for the winners. You must post a review for a DVD that HAS NOT been previously reviewed on the site. Verify this by checking the current review section, along with http://www.horrordvds.com/reviews/all.shtml - this list contains some old reviews that have not yet been posted on the new site layout.

For the reviews, follow our review format. Write some pre-story thoughts on the movie (opitonal), followed by a summary of the movie (2 or 3 paragraphs), followed by your thoughts (no limit on paragraphs - see Paff's Carrie review for an extreme example) on the movie. Next do the Image Quality, Sound, Supplements, and Final Thoughts. Don't worry about screen shots or scans - concentrate only on the writing.

Details:

Reviews and articles you would like to submit should be emailed to dave@horrordvds.com and cc'd (carbon copied) to rhett@horrordvds.com. Depending on the amount we receive, we will pick out some of the better entries and then post them on the site for readers to vote on. Will won't be strict in which ones we eliminate from posting, since we really want the readers to choose the winner. But we will eliminate ones that are poorly written or have not been spell checked.

Authors names will not be posted during the voting. This will prevent people from voting for a site regular that they like, or not vote for someone that they dislike. Authors may not indicate in any way (public forum, PM, email) to other members which article/review is theirs. Doing so will result in their entry being removed and possible ban from the site. I suggest those wanting to vote DO NOT indicate what topic/movie they will be writing on in the forum or elsewhere.

NOTE: You DO NOT have to have an account on the site to submit an article or review. You only need an account to vote.

You may submit multiple articles and / or reviews to increase the chances of winning. If someone has submitted one article and two reviews, and all are voteld the top choices, then that person will be awarded all of the gift certificates.

Readers from around the world are welcome to participate. The only requirement is that we are able to buy a gift certificate to a reputable online DVD store for the amount of $40.00 or $20.00 US. If the gift certificate is to be converted into another currency, that is okay. But we will cap it at whatever value - in US funds - that we put on the particular certificate.

No plagiarism - instant ban and removal of entry. This goes without saying. Between Rhett, myself, and the readers - there is no chance one would be successful at this, so don't try.

All entries are to be emailed by January 15, 2005. Entries will be posted the following week for voting. You must be a member - i.e. have an account on the site - to vote.

Safe guards will be implemented to ensure no fraudulent activites take place during voting. Because an account is required to vote, this ensures only one vote per account. We make take this a step further and only allow people that meet a certain criteria to vote. For example, you must be a member for at least 60 days and had at least 10 posts on the forum in order to vote. I'm still deciding on this, but chances are, anyone that is willing to write a great DVD review or article is not going to try and cheat. However, anyone that is caught trying to cheat will have their entry removed and be banned from the site.

Posted articles/reviews become property of Horrordvds.com

Does it have to be a new article or can I use something I've already written?

One question, can someone submit a review AND article?

Lyle: It can be something you've already written.

You can submit multiple reviews or articles. If the same person's articles and reviews are voted winners, that person can get all of the GCs, or multiple GCs.

When sending in reviews, would we need to provide screenshots from the DVD?
I've never been able to do that, but I'd like to know how.

I don't see a deadline. Am I going nuts, or do I not see a deadline. Just checking.

No on screen shots.

However, if anyone is putting finishing touches on something, get it to me over the next few days and you may still have a chance. We didn't receive much and there will only be several - at best - to vote on.

Hey! Are these going to be posted soon? I'm looking forward to reading what the members have come up with. Don't tell me Wizzer didn't pen another classic! :)

Still no word on this competition?

I'll post the articles soon. We will finish this. I was just a bit disappointed by the lack of entries. That's not to say there weren't any good ones, because there were. I just expected a larger response. We'll probably run this again with a bigger prize offering, but I'm not going to disappoint the people that have already submitted. And those that have submitted have a high chance of winning due to lack of entries.
