This year saw the release and re-release of many of DVD's most requested horror titles. The three-years-in-progress DAWN OF THE DEAD DVD from Anchor Bay, the FRIDAY THE 13TH box set from Paramount as well as a wealth of new horror like THE TEXAS CHAINSAW and DAWN remakes, GOTHIKA and THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT. There is a ton to choose from, and I am sure I will be missing plenty, but of the list which was your favorite overall release of the year?

Dawn Of The Dead: Ultimate Edition (Anchor Bay)
Videodrome (Criterion)

I think this horse has already been beaten.

Dawn of the Dead was definitely the best DVD set of 2004 for me. The Videodrome Criterion was a close second.

There are lots of good ones in there, but none come close to the glory of the Dawn of the Dead set. It goes to show that while it was not a good year for horror movies, 2004 was a great year for horror dvds.

It's a tie between the Dawn set and Bride of Frank.

Without a doubt, Dawn of the Dead 78. The most definitive dvd set yet, period!! Zombi 2 was an amazing transfer, but the extras did nothing for me. I also adored Cabin Fever and Dawn of the Dead 2004. I'm sure the Friday boxed set is awesome, but I haven't gotten it yet.

It was a great year for horror DVD's. The best thing is, you can now get all three Romero zombie flicks with killer transfers. For 2004 my favorite is a tie between Dawn of the Dead Ultimate & Shawn of the Dead. I think both are great and I honestly can't decide between the two.

Has to be the DAWN UE---it's been eagerly awaited for way too long.

Second would probably go to VIDEODROME.

I liked the releases of DAWN (2004), the TCM remake, and BUBBA HO-TEP also.

I dug the THRILLER disc as far as how the disc was put together but the movie just didn't do much for me.

Videodrome all the way. Criterion pleased me to no end with that release.

I went with Zombi 2. It was nice to finally get a definitive (until the next definitive) version of this cult classic.

I could easily have gone for Videodrome at the same time, it is wonderful. But my grindhouse roots got the better of me, and I clicked on the Fulci.

I voted for Dawn '04 by mistake, but my vote really goes to the Dawn '78 box - hands down.

01. Dawn of the Dead: Ultimate Edition - I think we can finally say that we have the definitive version of this film now.

02. Zombi 2: Anniversy Edition - The same can be said for this film aswell, this is the definitive edition. I was really impressed with the A\V quality, it was worth the money alone.

out of the ones on the list, i went with deathdream because i enjoyed that movie the best. i had the dawn set for a bit but now am just left with the single disc theatrical version with the dts track. i actually tried to watch it today because i have still never sat through the movie one time for a serious viewing. (*hides) so anywho, i can't believe i voted for a BU disc but there you go.

"Dawn of the Dead: Ultimate Edition 4-DVD Set"

That set was many long years in the waiting, since the abysmal AB Anniversary release, which had near to nothing on it. This new set is easily not only the best horror film DVD ever, it's one the best DVD's ever made.

Runner-Up: "Freddy vs. Jason", a very nice & elaborate DVD for a good film. Although not great, for a film that took 14 years to get made, the bonus documentaries really covered the gambit for the lifespan of getting the film made.

Voted for Zombie as I have the original version from Anchor Bay and the new release is so much better than that one. Haven't seen Dawn of the Dead (2004) Will have to buy and the Original is the Best Zombie film Ever.

Hey Everyone,

Dawn Of The Dead : Ultimate Edition. The best horror DVD release ever for the best horror film ever made. That's not to say it's absolutely perfect.

They should have included more Greg Nicotero footage of the Mall Tour plus included a tour of the Monroeville Airport and Truck Depot which is located in Irwin, Pennsylvania. The cast commentary and Rubenstein's commentary should have been switched so we got the cast commenting on the extended cut. Also commentary's from Michael Gornick and other cast & crew should have been included, man am I picky or what.

Awesome to see Zack Snyder's pathetic pile of garbage only has 4% of the vote as I write this :D .

Grease Guy : Four pounds of grease...that comes to 63 cents.
Homer : Woo Hoo.
Bart : Dad, all that bacon cost 27 dollars.
Homer : Yeah, but your mom payed for that.
Bart : But doesn't she get her money from you.
Homer : And I get my money from grease, what's the problem.

My only quibble with the UE was that they should have had the cast commentary on either the Theatrical or Extended Cut. For the Euro cut it would have been a lot better to have a commentary by someone who was familiar with what they were watching.

Everything else has to take a backseat to this set. But I really liked a lot of the other releases in the poll.

Your not alone, friend. I voted VIDEODROME as well because I have yet to get the spiffy DAWN set. I'll get it soon enough though-- I have a Best Buy gift card with its name on it.

My vote went to Videodrome too, hard choice for me, because Dawn of the Dead was an easy pick, but hey, you can always release a better edition of Dawn and I'm not so sure anyone can improve Criterion release of Videodrome.

ok i'm too late for the poll but my favourite was the Friday The 13th box set. only because i watch those movies all the time and up till the box set, i had only well-worn VHS versions.
I also loved the Thriller: A Cruel Picture and Dawn of the Dead(2004) DVDs. well worth the money. You forgot Crazy Lips though :-(
