No. VHS and LD (which I have) are both full screen. They are probably just matting it themselves for TV broadcast. Is it the unrated version they're showing?

Did it began or ended with a studio logo, like MGM?

forum home video was the company that released it on home video
EFFIGY FILMS WAS THE MAIN COMPANY THOUGH THAT IS PROBABLY WHY NO ONE HAS RELEASED IT ON DVD

It had the MGM logo at the end.
It had some really gorey moments too... I haven't seen this in years so I don't remember what stuff looked like. But there was a hand sawing and a face stabbing that was brutal (when the guy is stabbed in the face, lots of blood jets out) So I don't really know if it was uncut or not. probably was but some shit was bloody.

I REMEMBER SEEING BOTH VERSIONS I OWN THE UNCUT VERSION ON VIDEO RECORDED PICTURE QUALITY IS EXCELLENT BUT YOU DID SEE THE UNRATED VERSION BECAUSE THE R-RAted JUST SHOWS THE KNIFE STABBING INTO THE HEAD BUT NO BLOOD...

Speaking of scarecrows , when are they going to release Dark Night of the Scarecrow on DVD ( 1981 ) staring Larry Drake .

I think Scarrecrows actually had a limited theatrical release, so it might be in a widescreen format somewhere. Wasn't BU planning on releasing this sometime?

There was also a scene where a couple of those robbers are pulling money out of one of the other guy's body (he is stuffed with straw and money) and one of the guys is pulling bloodied money out of the guys severed head, from his neck. And before that the one main guy there, real hateful guy, cuts open the body from the neck down with his knife. It didn't cut away either. There was only one part where it seemed choppy cut to me, when the scarecrows gut one guy in the field. It kinda pans over to the damage then cuts way real fast and it was distracting. Everything else seemed to flow good though. The sycle hacking near the end was brutal too. To that guy's leg... Anyway, hope this gets a DVD release and an uncut one at that. :)

Last I heard (from the original producer), the company that owned the rights to Scarecrows after buying it from him went under.

Wow. I loved that one. That was totally creepy, and was put on television towards the rather lengthy "golden age" of television horror films, others of which included "This House Possessed", "Cry For the Strangers", "Dark Secret of Harvest Home" etc...

I have a copy of Dark Night of the Scarecrow on VHS, and it was released by Key Video, I think, which would mean that CBS/FOX owns the rights, unless it was sold off...If CBS/FOX still owns the rights, it could be awhile before this shows up on dvd, if it ever does.

Frankly, I really don't understand why more of these horror telefilms don't get released. There are SO many--especially from the early-mid 70's--that people remember and love. I'm sure they'd have an audience.

Scream? Never heard of the channel. This movie deserves an uncut/widescreen release pronto!! The director directed a zombie movie with Lou Diamond Phillips a few years back called Route 666. Not a bad flick.

Becuase just like DARK NIGHT OD SCARECROW, most of these telefilms were produced by Lorimar, like ARE YOU AFRAID OF DARK, BAD RONALD, and Lorimar library is now controlled by Warner, and its bad enough Warner isnt doing much witht he MGm library, so yuo can see it will be a long long long time before any of these hit DVD

Titles Like Scarecrow And Crime Wave Are Owned By Companies That Are Out Of Business So It Is Hard To Get The Rights To The Film To Release It But My Best Guess Would Be Getting In Touch With The Director Himself And Getting To Release The Film On Dvd

If any of you guys whats to take it in widescreen, I'd be more than happy to make a DVD out of it for you and I!!! Of course, it wouldn't be HD or anamorphic, but it'd be a damn good copy!

According to the http://shop.dtm.at/ website, it's 16x9!

dmeister

It's also almost certainly a bootleg, since the company that owns the rights to this film went belly-up. Unless SAG got a hold of it or something.

Here's a better scan of the front and back cover. Does anyone know for sure that it's in Fullscreen and not Widescreen? Once in awhile Xploited makes a minor error in the listings.

The conversion usually looks pretty good, but it depends on your player's chip set, and the video quality of the PAL DVD itself. Some older players convert Anamorphic PAL in an incorrect fashion that actually cuts off a good chunk of the sides. Most newer players that can convert PAL don't really suffer from that anymore though.

I have a 21" monitor connected to my computer and a great surround set-up, so sometimes I'll just watch them on that... and with a computer there are no PAL/NTSC conversion issues to deal with, just the annoying region-coding which can easily be dealt with!

ok just got through checking around the disc

first of all. I have two VHS versions of the unrated version and have seen the laserdisc. All of this is my opinion

The Image is much clearer and sharper than my video versions. Everything could easily be seen even in the dark scenes. Sound was ok, clear no hissing. I found the image generally pleasing and the best I have seen so far. Do not regret buying it at all. Worth the 30bucks til a better version comes out. It was in fullscreen by the way.

That said, a couple of scenes seemed to change in quality, I THINK this was the difference between the R-rated and unrated versions. Basically some of the gore scenes were worse for wear than the rest on average, greyish tint on one or two , nothing distracting.

I haven't watched the disc minute for minute, but i watched a few minutes on each chap+ter. From what I could see it was the uncut version( which the sleeve indicates as well.)

So, for all of you who said no way , give it a rethink. These days you can get a lot worse quality on newer films ( as well as the other way around). Not HD/ super quality by any means, but it IS the best version I have had so far.

Stige, does it come in a digipack style of case, or a normal keepcase? Dragon seem to alternate between the two every now and again.

digipak, inside a cardboard sleeve
