I was reading here that actress Courtney Peldon was cut for real on the set, was given a real knife instead of a prop ( yikes ).

I had the misfortune to see TOOLBOX MURDERS in cinema yesterday. The guy has lost it - he's finished. Even though I love TCM/TCM2/Lifeforce, nowdays he can't make a good movie to save his life.

I'll be picking up the Toolbox Murders dvd when it is released next month or whenever. I love Angela Bettis and this movie looks pretty decent. I haven't heard the best reviews, but I'm not going to let that persuade me this time since I really want to see this.

There was another movie called Mortuary back in the early 80s with real life husband/wife Chris and Lynda Day George, and I dug that one. This one sounds good and I'll def check it out.

I also loved that 80's Mortuary and actually talked my grandfather into bringing me to it as a kid-one of my first horror movies in the theatre. Any word on this one being released on DVD by BU or AB? I hope when they do they include that TV ad that included footage of a guy being pulled into a grave that had NOTHING to do with what actually occured in the movie-classic stuff!

I'm not going to get my hopes up either...Hooper used to be my fave, but I've been let down way too many times in the past (CHAINSAW 2, INVADERS FROM MARS, CROCODILE, THE MANGLER, SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION, NIGHT TERRORS...need I go on?)...

Yes,thats the one,the young female lead had been on THE WALTONS.I think Christopher George(who did lots of 70s and 80s horrors like GRIZZLY ,DAY OF THE ANIMALS and PIECES) died during production.

'Mortuary' Website Gets Update/Trailer!

It's unbelievable that someone like Tobe Hooper can have such a hard time finding distribution for his films- he did direct the freakin Texas Chainsaw Massacre! Today it was reported that if you head on over to the film's official website for Hooper's Mortuary, you can check out a new flash intro, new stills and a trailer for the mvoie (if you can get it working). Hopefully our fav studio Lionsgate will eventually snag this baby for US distribution (or maybe we'll just have to buy it from the UK again). The movie is about a family that moves to the town of Arkham, Massachusetts and takes on the job of running a local funeral home, where an evil presence resides in the adjoining cemetery.

Here in Germany the DVD Rental version for Mortuary was delayed, but is supposed to come out this week.
In February there is a 2-Disc Set coming out available to buy. So I guess that in the US Xploited Cinema probably will offer the German DVD.
You can see here
http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=search&searchtype=r2title&searchstring=mortuary&page=search&Go.x=33&Go.y=4

that even the Anchor Bay UK DVD of the movie has a release date of March 27th 2006 in the UK.

MORTUARY HITS THEATERS

Fangoria has reported that Tobe Hooper's latest flick- Mortuary has been announced for a theatrical run. Don't get too excited though, it's only for 6 theaters in CA. Still, if it does well there it could expand into more cities. Most people will be catching this when it comes out on dvd, though... we're just waiting on a release date for that.

For more info on the movie including a list of theatrical dates, visit the official site. While you are there you can also check out the international trailer, play a game where you throw bolas at zombies, and read up on the cast and crew.

Tobe Hooper's 'Mortuary' in March

Got a little bad news, but if you're dying to see Tobe Hoopers Mortuary (review) it may actually not be that bad. The film will debut on the Sci-Fi Channel on March 25th, according to their schedule. The movie is about a family that moves to the town of Arkham, Massachusetts and takes on the job of running a local funeral home, where an evil presence resides in the adjoining cemetery. Check out the official website for more.

Is this gonna have the same annoying, quick-cut MTV-style editing that his "Masters of Horror" episode did? Time to give it up, Tobe. That was some truly embarassing shit.

Last decent thing he did was LIFEFORCE in my opinion.

Nope, none of that is on hand. I enjoy this movie quite a bit. It's an entertaining horror comedy mildly let down by some use of obvious CGI at the end. If Hooper removed the last scene (or even the last 15 seconds) I'd like it even more, but overall I give it a thumbs up.

No, but that's one I'm hoping to see on DVD soon. Anything new from Hooper is useless to me. Hell, most older stuff from Hooper is useless.

Can't wait to check this one out. Hooper's MOH episode was the best of the bunch and Toolbox Murders was a nice throwback to the 80's slashers, so I'm hoping he'll pull off a nice hat trick with this film. I still wonder what happened to his project about the haunted brewery though. It sounded... unique.

I'm getting ready to watch this movie on Sci-Fi...it comes on at Midnight (Central time)...I'm hoping the commercials and editing for TV don't ruin the film for me, but I'm also hoping Tobe's directing doesn't ruin it for me as well. Cheers!

I caught the last half of the movie on its premiere night, and wasn't all that impressed...Figured that maybe I had missed the point, and that it would be better watching it from the beginning in entirety...Caught it on the second airing from the beginning, and basically couldn't wait until I got to the point where I was familiar with it just so I could say I'd seen the whole thing and turn the channel...Rotten!

Oh by the way, that whole SALT thing did make the movie a little weirder and I took it less serious at that point, reminded me of Ernest Scared Stupid where Milk vanquished the ghouls. All and all, the movie wasn't all that bad, plus it helped the girls were kinda hot throughout the movie. Ya think the DVD will have tons more gore & the like?

It was fairly typical for a Sci-Fi Channel Saturday night movie. The babes were maybe a little better than usual, but the plot sure wasn't. Come to think of it, the babes weren't any better than their usual stuff either.

Lots of hot chicks in this flick no?
And not one of them gets naked (even in the R-Rated DVD). More proof that Hooper doesn't really know what the fuck he's doing.

That said, I actually found the movie somewhat enjoyable up until the climax. However, the poorly executed and completely cliche "surprise ending" was completely asinine, and pretty much ruined the first 1 1/2 hours for me.

Yeah, it's wierd. I was actually entertained enough with the whole premise, liked the characters and everything, but then the creatures started coming and it really lost me. Usually I just can't wait until the shit hits the fan, but this just seemed to spray back and splatter me in the face. I was happier watching these people go on with their daily routines. I still enjoyed it enough, but the ending was pretty horrible.

Yeah, you aren't kidding. I am sorry for anything bad I may have said about Toolbox Murders Tobe. Honestly. After sitting through this, that is a New Tobe Horror Classic for sure. Stick with the simple slashers baby. Don't mess around with fancy concepts like evil CGI effects taking over a mortuary. No sir.

This movie was bland and average until the whole grand finale, where it just really really sucked. It's so depressing. There wasn't a single moment where I felt like I was watching a movie by a great director. Not one. Nada. I had issues with Land of the Dead, but there were plenty of times where I could tell that a great director was at the helm. Here? Not so much. Nada. I mean, there was a little girl kid and the oh so scary bad guy sharing licorice. Why? I am not sure, and I don't really care. Oh, and then there was the salt. There's just nothing to like here.

I watched this last night. Somehow I got through the whole thing, but wow...this was bad. The "humor" did not work at all (that horrible scene where Denise Crosby kept spraying blood and embalming fluid everywhere while meanwhile teen son and new best friends smoke pot upstairs), the scares were did not exist, the adult characters were incredibly annoying (the giggling town coucilman with the cane whose character serves no purpose at all), and the teen characters all look and act like people from other horror films. The only thing I could think of as I watched this was how much better the movie was in 1990 when it was called Nightlife.

Could this be another contender for our Hall of Shame?

Haven't seen it, but I'm hoping Hooper delivers for the Masters of Horror S2 opener. He had one of the worst last season.

I liked his Toolbox Murders though. Hardly a classic, but pretty cool IMO.

I don't know how this one slipped under my radar, well, maybe I can.A buddy of mine lent me the DVD and I finally watched it last night.I thought the movie was pretty good in a B movie sense until the very end.Like someone stated above,If they had cut out the last 15-20 seconds of the movie,I think it would have been a little better. It's worth watching/renting in my opinion. Thats just weird I had'nt even heard of this movie until up to a few days ago.I'd give it a 7/10
