I just stopped by Poker Industries and saw this on their news page:
"Men Behind The Sun will arrive during the first week of April."
They also have "Guts Of A Virgin" & "Guts Of A Beauty" in stock. Has anyone seen these DVDs yet? Are they any good?

For an in-depth interview with the director of MBTS, check out http://www.horschamp.qc.ca/9901/offscreen_columns/ManBehind1.html
Although I haven't seen the film in its entirety, it certainly lives up to its reputation as one of the hardest hitting horror movies. My advice would be to give it a wide berth until you're used to Japanese horror. The boundaries within these films tend to be pushed further than in other movies. MBTS is far from entertaining and many only visit the movie once.
Check out the Guinea Pig article at Splatterhouse for an excellent analysis of Japan Shock style films. It's a good introduction to this dark sub-genre: http://www.splatterhouse.net/splatterhouse.htm

I forgot to mention that Synapse are planning to release "Virgin" and "Beauty" later in the year. Having said this, they're running behind on the release dates of titles at the moment so it may be next year before they see the light of day. I'm waiting for Don May's releases as the current Japan Shock versions aren't of excellent quality (according to reports I've read). Splatterhouse contains reviews of these titles. Check 'em out.

I spoke with Don May via e-mail about "Virgin" a while back (after the unofficial announcement news was posted here) and he said he hadn't tracked down any elements yet, but was probably going to start work on this in the summer. Or something like that, my memory isn't what it used to be. ;) He also said he was going for an unfogged print if any such thing existed, and he said he expected his version to be much better quality than the J-Shock version (which I haven't seen). For what it's worth.

Great news, AceRimRat. These releases will be worth the wait. I have a lot of time for Synapse as they really care about their DVDs. The fact that Synapse are releasing these movies also makes them somehow more, ahem, acceptable! :D

How is Synapse doing really? I've heard that it faces some financial problems. I hope this isn't the case... If Synapse went down it would make every horror fan unhappy (with the exception of Van Bebber of course).

Men Behind the Sun, eh? Oh my... this has to be the most repulsive movie I've ever seen, The entire series is fucked up (I've seen part's 1-4, 4 isn't actually a part of the series but it might as well be) just as a correction to an earlier post, this is a Chinese film not Japanese... No biggie, but this film is definitely one of the hardest films to watch. I might buy the DVD, won't watch it much though.

I don't thik Synapse is in any serious financial difficulty, but they have had a lot of problems lately that have delayed their releases, and most of the issues have been out of their control. The authoring facility Don May uses screwed them over multiple times on both Triumph of the Will and Fatal Frames, so those two discs are only just now being pressed, plus they had mammoth delays getting the soundtrack for A Better Place remixed, and now they've still got to wait for the last supplemental feature to be recorded, Kevin Snith's video introduction (Kevin is a tad bit busy with his new film), and if that's not enough, with Express.com gone they've got to find something to do with the 1000 limited edition copies they were planning on producing.

Reverendave: I didnt really care for the Guts of a Beauty/Virgin movies. As a matter of fact, I think they suck. They are more like excuses to make a soft porn than anything else. Some parts are pretty damn funny though. MBTS kicks ass though.

That completely sucks! about Synapse release for A Better Place. I've been waiting for the release of that limited special edition since it was first announced. Synapse disc's arn't easy to get ahold of, I waited five months to get my Brain Damage disc... I just got it a week ago. Though I love the film, I hesitate to say it was worth the wait. I am very happy I have it though. What other films (in Brain Damage vein) are avaialbe on Synapse? And in related inquiry... Does anyone know if Shatterdead is on, or will be available on DVD? Thanks.
