Shyamalan tackles the 'Lady in the Water'.

M. Night Shyamalan will next write and direct the fantasy thriller Lady in the Water for Warner Bros. Pictures. The movie centers on the superintendent of an apartment building who finds a rare type of sea nymph swimming in the apartment pool.
Production will begin in August on location in Philadelphia, for a US release in July 2006.

...I'm sure i'll go watch it. not as excited as i would've been though. or maybe I'll just never trust the marketing for his films again....they'll market this as a horror film and it'll actually be a romantic comedy.

"a rare type of sea nymph" ???? I guess I'm one of the rare people to have never seen a normal sea nymph. Stupid.

I know I sure am. Rhett can attest for my complete hatred of Salamidong.
Every want to know how to make your own Shyamalan film? I have everything you need...
The structure goes something like this...
Act I.
1. Introduce Characters
2. Elaborate the lamest elements of these characters. [This is where you mention characteristics that are so pointless, that it's obvious you are being told them for a reason. "Keep swinging" (Signs)]
Act II.
1. Get shots of actors having blank expressions.
2. Include a really great scene that actually could be disconnected from the film and is more interesting on its own then the rest of the film is together. [For example: The little girl that was killed by her stepmother in "The Sixth Sense"; or Joaquin's reaction to watching the birthday party video on the television in "Signs"]
3. Pad movie to two hours.
Act III.
1. Build towards conclusion. [Refer back to the previously mentioned lame elements.]
2. SHOCKING ENDING that the theatre will "never see coming" because you put them to sleep over the past 1hr 45min.
There you have it. If anyone wants to make a Shyamalan film on their own, following my directions. I will personally host/distribute it.

So basically he's remaking SPLASH....
This sounds like a joke, but nothing would surprise me.

I had sworn off this guy's movies, and then I got stuck watching The Village on a plane ride. Hopefully, that won't happen again and I can avoid his future movies because, since The Sixth Sense, I don't like a thing he has done, and by "don't like" I mean "really hate."

I quit after SIGNS. I thought his first two were okay, but SIGNS was the first movie in a long time that really made me wish I could have gotten those two hours of my life back.

I'm THROUGH with M.Night
Sixth Sense was innovative & somewhat created a trend.
Unbreakable - Got to see a pre-screening...Boring (& I love comics)
Signs - Went to the movies to see this crap per my sister's recommendation...Snorefest! Needless to say I kicked my sister in the cooch afterward.
The Village - Rock Bottom! Rented it to give M.Night the benefit of the doubt. Saw the "twist" coming from a mile away. A lot of boring sh*t in there too! This woulda been better as a 20 minute Twilight Zone episode.
I ain't given him anymore of my dough. Perhaps 7-Eleven is hiring..."Thank You, Come Again".
Alright, that's a little harsh, but he has NEVER been able to recreate what he did with Sixth Sense & I wish he'd stop trying!

I wish people would stop expect it from him :)
Ten bucks says the main character turns out to have been the Sea Nymph all along but never knew it.

buck fifty says it turns out he is the freak amidst a world of sea nymphs. or something.
There's a new trailer up for this movie over here (http://playlist.yahoo.com/makeplaylist.dll?id=1428606&sdm=web&qtw=640&qth=400).
Well, at least it's better than the teaser. And that's a lot coming from me because I literally hate Shyamalan's work (except for Signs. I don't know why, but I really love that film).
After The Village I swore I'd never see another Shyamalan film. However, this trailer gave me some hope to begin with. For a while I thought it might turn out to surprise me like Signs did, although I still cringe when I think of that horribly pretentious original Lady in the Water teaser.
Then comes a shot of Mr. Shyamalan himself as a character in the movie and I am reminded of the most repugnant scene I've ever witnessed in a film, namely the Shyamalan-starring "cleverly shot" scene in The Village. I almost vomited on the screen then and I swear I felt sick watching this trailer.
I know he's trying to do a Hitchcock by appearing in his films. But PLEASE just appear, don't act and don't speak and don't draw attention to yourself like having your face only be revealed by the reflection on a glass window or putting yourself in the trailer of your latest movie!!!

After all the crap that it's out there, I wouldn't mind some quality horror. Thank you mr. Shyamalan.

I'm looking forward to anything Shyamalan puts out there, including this. Compared to the lot of films out there these days, he's not that bad. In fact, he's a pretty good writer, and a gifted filmmaker, IMO; I think The Village was his low point, but I was still entertained for an hour and a half, more than could be said for some other Hollywood trite out there. Plus, let face it: M. Night Shyamalan is a cool name. :D

After seeing the original teaser, I just thought this movie was gonna be a family fantasy fairy tale movie. I didn't know it was was gonna be a fantasy horror movie. Cool. Don't really care for Shyamalan's work, but I might see this one.

I'll give this a shot. I enjoyed the Sixth Sense and Signs, so might as well, right?

I bet the twist is that the titular "water" turns out to really be land and that the "lady" is a man and he isn't "in" anything but he's outside of everything and we're the aliens, man. We're the aliens!
I loved Unbreakable , but after The Village, I do not need to see another of his movies in the theater again.

Yes, thank you Mr. Shyamalan for making films so bad that they make every other shitfest that gets released look like quality horror!!!

I liked The Sixth Sense but everything Shyamalan has done since has proven to me that he is the most overrated director of the last ten years.

personally dont enjoy his movies that much. he seems to try way to hard to work the twists in, often affecting the quality of the movie. Like in Signs, the whole 'swing away' drib.the whole water thing, which was just 1 huge plot hole in the end. and I'll never forget the laughter at the theater at Unbreakable "They called me, Mr. Glasssssss!!!! OoooOOOOoooOoo"

I'll wait for reviews before checking this one out. I won't be fooled by Shamalamadingdong's trailers anymore. The Village teached me a lesson.

   HAHAHAH! Likewise! That right there ruined that whole movie for me, it was alright up to that COMICLY HILARIOUS line of dialogue. I've never laughed so hard in my life!
Silly mortals...The ending reveals that we the audience are really in the movie and the movie is watching us all along....Yes, fooled you suckers again!
Mysteriously yours, M Night Shymalan

Just watched the new trailer. It looks pretty cool. I think I'm more intrigued than anything since I still feel like I know almost nothing about the premise. But I'm a big enough fan of his work that I'm willing to see anything he makes at least once.

Tons of haters.....
I think his work is pretty good. He's obviously not the greatest director of all time, but he's certainly not as bad as everybody makes him out to be.
I'll give this a shot, and will probably like it.
