I'm a big fan of the film PUMPKINHEAD and bought both the R1 MGM dvd and the Tartan R2 release. I heard there's a better print of it on the German dvd (on the e-m-s label).
Can anyone tell me any online German Sites I could try for this? I already tried the Amazon German Site but they don't have it and The Ebay German ones that are up, only ship to Germany!!

Cheers mate! That seems to be the one. Thanks a lot.
It seems pretty costly though, working out at about £21. Are DVDs more expensive over there? I'll still go for it though if i can't find it anywhere else.

The biggest problem with getting German dvds is the fucked up law about ratings/shipping. Anything rated 18+ in Germany cannot be sent from Germany to America (at least not by reputable online stores, I'm sure some smaller sites "bend" the rule).
From what I can tell, dvds are more expensive there as well. I had an online pal I traded with to get a couple German discs. Also my GF teaches German so she goes there once a year on a class trip, now with a list of discs I want to check out.
Of course the trip got cancelled this year, and last year all the shit I wanted was OOP so it remains a biatch getting German discs. Thankfully I still just want a couple OOP's and not a long list of new ones.
If you're in the UK/Germany/etc. you can just get whatever you want from anywhere.

Well, I'm in the UK but its tough trying to work out some of these German sites if you don't speak the language.I've tried a couple of Sites and, even using an online translator, ended up getting in a mess!

Yeah, German is a weird lanugage (of course they all are) so things never translate word for word and it plays hell on translators. German is esp. bad for translating to English though. Lucky for me I can just ask the expert of the house to make sense of things for me. :)

I'm in the Netherlands. The prices depend on the company where you buy/order them I believe. This company is pretty expensive if I look at some prices.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Pumpkinhead shot open matte 1.33:1? If thats the case then any disc thats widescreen would be hard matting the film and you would actually be losing some picture on the top and bottom. In any case though, how does a widescreen copy of this look?

I've got the Tartan dvd and it's 1:85 Anamorphic. Looks pretty good to me. Never saw it in a other format though.

have you tried the other u.k. dvd release of pumpkinhead from a company called: 'Contender Entertainment Group'.
i have this version and the dvd print is great, it's also quite cheap, i can't imagine the german print to look any better.

The framing of the Tartan dvd is fine but I thought the picture quality, in terms of sharpness, color bleed etc., wasn't the greatest.

You can clearly see wires when the Pumpkinhead creature is holding one of his victims up by his feet on the 4:3 MGM version. Those wires are gone in the widescreen version.

The e-m-s DVD I own has a really beautiful transfer. Pumpkinhead finally looks like a real movie :)

Right...I've got the Tartan version and am unsure whether to get the e-m-s one as it's quite costly. I know you said its better than the MGM disc but have you any idea if its better than the Tartan one?

Sorry spook, I've never seen the Tartan DVD so I can't compare. I read somewhere the e-m-s one is suppose to be better looking than the Tartan one.

Just make sure that this is a DVD that has the original dialogue with no forced subtitles, rather than the more typical (at least until some time ago, it's apparently been normalized since :)) German release, i.e. one with only German dubbing and no original dialogue track.

Those wires have always bugged me. Oh, how I want a SE of this film, in widescreen of course.

I own both the R1 MGM DVD and the UK R2 Contender DVD and have made some screen grabs from both versions, but I don't know how to post them here :o They're too big to add as attachments, too. If anyone's interested in (and able to) post them here please PM me so I can e-mail them to you. :)

They're probably uncompressed .BMP images if they're that big in size. If you have a graphics program (even MS Paint with Windows will do) you can easily convert them (usually "Save As" or "Save as Type") and the file size will plummet...without much noticeable quality degradation.

Ok, thanks, I should have thought of that...
Attached are 2 comparisons between the fullscreen R1 DVD and the 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen R2 UK Contender DVD.
I don't know how well these images really show the difference between the two releases, but IMO the R2 Contender disc has a much sharper and detailed picture than the R1 DVD.

The Contender DVD looks much better than the MGM release. The detail, colors and the framing all appear far superior from looking at the captures.
Thanks for posting the comparisons!

Definitly.
I'm kinda surprised this movie is a matted 1.85 though. Last time I watched the R1 disc I was noticing there not being lots of headroom in many scenes, and expected it to be pan and scan. The WS still looks much better in every way. I've been meaning to watch my dub of the WS disc, this is all the kickstart I need.
Good job on the comparison grabs Behemoth.
