One of my current hobbies is to go down to the local library to look at old microfilm for movie listings and make copies. I didn't actually grow up in the town in which I live, but I came here every so often to see something. The two movies that I'm interested in are both from 1982: Creepshow and Poltergeist. What I want to know is can anyone point in the direction of any websites that would tell me the exact theatrical release of these and possibly other movies? If necessary, I can always start for Jan. 1st and work my way through the year, but I've already committed my energy to the summer of 1970.

Sorry, I can't pass this opportunity to be a smart ass, so next time try under "release dates". :D (being a smart-ass, not a dick :) )

Just got back from the library and (surprise, surprise!) imdb is slightly off on Creepshow. They say it was released 11/12/82, but it started playing here two days earlier on Wed. 11/10/82.

That's interesting! I could have sworn that Creepshow came out on a Friday. Did you find any newspaper advertisements for a rare Wednesday (especially for a rather small film) premiere?

Hey guys, check out the release date listed on the first US poster on this page.

Perhaps a rerelease? I thought Creepshow tanked on its first run.
I know Dawn of the Dead (the dreaded R-rated version) was released in a double-bill with Creepshow at one point...but I don't think that this poster is related.
The only thing that I can think of is that THAT was the original date that they were shooting for and the actual release date got bumped up for later in the year......even though the poster design was already finished beforehand.

No. Nothing out of the ordinary. No hype, just the basic notice from the press book was advertised. Great week for movies though. I could have spent the entire day there. That one cinema was showing Creepshow, Class of 1984, and Halloween III.
Oh, and The Sender.
