I searched through HorrorDVDs.com but didn't find anything on this so I thought I'd post. I came across this new boxset scheduled for release April 19 2005, The Jess Franco Collection which contains four movies: Female Vampire, A Virgin Among the Living Dead, The Sadistic Baron Von Klaus, and Oasis of the Zombies priced at $31.49 CDN at Amazon.ca (http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0007LXP7M/qid=1112645658/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/701-7774275-6335542).

Well, suck ass is a good description, such as Compared to Citizen Kane, this movie sure sucks ass. But Oasis of the Zombies is still a fun little flick. You've got Nazi zombies, and, uhhh... an oasis. And with Uncle Jesse Franco, you've got a little T&A. Not a great movie by any means but it has it's moments and is a fun little romp in the sand.

Can't wait for this boxed set, but I'm gonna need to sell off the copy of Oasis of the Zombies that I already have.

i don't think Franco films are supposed to be great movies. they're supposed to be fun, with some TnA and....well that's enough actually.

Yeah, same here. I actually found out about this set as I was doing some price comparisons for Virgin Among the Living Dead, which has been on my wish list for a while. For $31, I'm better off selling my Oasis of the Zombies DVD and getting this set.

And plus they will all be in keep cases rather than snappers!

True, but I meant suck vis a vis most of his other works. But this happens a lot with these collections...there's always at least one stinker. Or in the case of Brentwood sets, half of them are stinkers and half are gold. ;)

But this film is uncut?
I've buy the eurobox with 8 film, but 5 film is cut. Only Blue rita, Voodoo passion and Jack the ripper is uncut! It's a very beautiful box and it's very cheap!

It's a very beautiful box and it's very cheap!FEMALE VAMPIRE is the not the X-rated version with pornographic inserts, and VIRGIN OF THE LIVING DEAD doesn't contain any hardcore footage (I'm not sure if it ever did, though). These are all good releases though (especially VIRGIN), so for the price it's a definite steal.

The best quality of this collection is that the 4 films are completely different and belong to various periods of Franco's filmography. Three of them are very good. Unfortunately OASIS OF THE ZOMBIES isn't Franco's cut and has a different soundtrack. Far from being among his best 1980s works, the original Spanish version LA TUMBA DE LOS MUERTOS VIVIENTES is however a pretty good film, even if not recommended for Zombie fans.
I absolutely recommend to view A VIRGIN AMONG THE LIVING DEAD in French with English subtitles. The English track has different music, different dialogue (some scenes lacks dialogue!) and is badly dubbed. Music is here as important as acting, and it's Bruno Nicolai at his best.

I worked my way through this boxset over the weekend and am quite impressed. The Oasis of the Zombies disc is exactly the same as my earlier Image disc, so I'll assume these are all the same editions of discs released prior to this collection.
As mentioned before, Oasis of the Zombies is a absolute cheesefest but is a totally fun Nazi zombie flick. The Sadistic Baron Von Klaus surprised me as a stylish precursor to the Giallo genre. Very well done. A Virgin Among the Living Dead and Female Vampire were more in line with the erotic horror Jesus Franco is known for, sexy and surreal.
Overall, this boxset is a blast and at eight bucks a pop, a great value.

The only Franco film I've seen is Vampyros Lesbos (1970). Great lesbian vampire flick. The original DVD (from Synapse, now OOP) featured a 1.66:1 non-anamorphic transfer. I used to own that copy, but sold it when Image Entertainment put out a new DVD on October 5, 2004 with a better transfer (1.78:1, 16x9 enhanced, and much cleaner, sharper, etc.). In all fairness to Synapse though, they couldn't find the original elements when they released their DVD in 1999.
