Warner is firing off their television slate quite rapidly on DVD as of late, and the best of all has finally come for horror fans. TALES FROM THE CRYPT, the beloved HBO anthology series, will finally find a release date on DVD July 12th. Unlike HBO's recent THE HITCHHIKER releases, this will be a seasonal release, rather than the "best-of" DVDs of the former series. Warner will naturally start with the complete season one, which runs six episodes and has episodes directed by the likes of Walter Hill, Robert Zemeckis, Richard Donner, Howard Deutch, Tom Holland and Mary Lambert.

The set will be split into two discs, with all six episodes crammed on to one disc (holy compression artifacting, Batman!) with a second disc reserved for extras still currently unannounced. The set will be presented in its original 1.33:1 aspect ratio, with English 2.0 Stero Surround and English, French and Spanish subtitles.

The two disc set will retail for a purchase-friendly $26.98. Thanks to tvshowsondvd.com for the details.

Three hours of video with a 2.0 audio track should look pretty good on a dual layer disc, as long as they don't put much else on there. The price is pretty tempting. I bet a Best Buy opening day price will be in the neighborhood of 22 US dollars. Not too shabby. The 2nd disc will be icing on the cake.

Does anyone know which episodes will be on the discs. All they say Season 1 there must be a few extra episodes on the disc so that they can have a pretty even amount when it comes to releasing all the series.

6 episodes. Bit of a rip. I already have those on VHS oh well may be worth picking up for the extras. Thing what gets me is that the other seasons have alot more eps in.

I bet this will retail for like $20. MSRPs are always a good deal higher than places like best buy will charge

Unless they do something stupid like use the syndicated episodes, I'll definitely be picking this up.

I am pissed because I already bought "all through the house" on DVD with "yellow". Well ok...I'm not that pissed, it would be really convienent to have all the episodes on one disc, as I taped all the previous shows on VHS but they are a bitch to find. Lets reminisce about our favourite episodes...I always loved the one with the lumber jack...where the friends of this scorned lover exact perfect justice...ohhh and the one where the dinner serves a special kind of menu...I really can't wait for the DVDs, so many guest cameos

Seeing as how there were so many guest directors for this series, I wonder how many (if any) they could get to do commentaries. Also, I really hope they include comparisons of the episodes against the comic book stories. It would be cool if they could include the full comic stories in a gallery format or as a storyboard track similar to what's on the Army of Darkness "Bootleg" DVD.

and mine, too.

What's the release date again? It can't come soon enough. Hope the other seasons follow very quickly. This is the best anthology ever, IMO.

Well boohoo for you, I've not seen the documentary and for 20 bucks I think the set looks rather nice.
