Here's the site with trailer etc. Comes out July. (http://www2.foxsearchlight.com/nwnd/)
Was this a comic book or something? I know how you all love CGIfests :)

Seen it last year, it's woeful, really really bad. And the whole film comes across as an advert for Nescafe. If you've seen the film you'll know what I mean!

I thought this was only coming to English language later this year - sorry.
The trailer has a boatload of CGI. It's pretty clever how they're able to put human actors in cartoons these days. Does it have the Xtreme Bugs Bunny in it?

No, but if he was he'd surely be driving a nescfe truck with a nescafe hat on and he'd probably crash into a nescafe warehouse,
A gold quote I found on yahoo!
"A golden opportunity for product placement shamelessly exploited," say those in the audience amused at the lingering shots of brands names. In this film, bad guys drink blood, good guys - Nescafe.

NIGHT WATCH gets new U.S. date
A source at Fox Searchlight gave Fango the news that the Russian horror/fantasy NIGHT WATCH has been given a new U.S. release date of February 17, 2006. Originally slated to open last summer, NIGHT WATCH is the first of a trilogy of features based on novels by Sergei Lukyanenko about the Night Watch and Day Watch, opposing forces who do supernatural battle on the streets (and rooftops, and elsewhere) of Moscow. It was directed by Timur Bekmambetov, who encores on the sequel, naturally titled DAY WATCH, which opens soon in Russia. You can see NIGHT WATCH’s official site here and read about the movie in Fango #245.

I think they had a trailer for this in front of HIGH TENSION when I saw it in the theater. Does it look sort of like THE CROW meets 28 DAYS LATER?

It's very sad that foreign fantasy films are emulating the current trend in American genre films of relying almost exclusively on CGI for special effects. I may still give this movie a chance though, since I'm hoping its foreign sensibility will at least bring something fresh to the table.

I'm not excited about it but I am interested in it so I'll check it out. Not often I get to see Russian films on a big screen and I'm curious to see what they can do with this story.

NIGHT WATCH ON FAST FOWARD
Those good guys over at Dread Central recently obtained the weirdest exclusive clip of Night Watch you will ever see. Well, not a clip. It's actually the whole movie. Except it's sped up, and around 2 minutes long.
Huh?
This has got to be the strangest marketing technique ever. Sure, it'll show off what a cool and badass movie Night Watch is, but wouldn't a new trailer do the same thing, without giving it all away?
Well, you can see for yourself- click here for the page.
Just pray that they market this the right way- it is going to be a tough sell. All you horror goons will love the movie though, trust me.

I've heard that the movie has been re-cut for American release, for instances, all of the Russian brands product-placements has been cut out. Anyway - would be interesting to see the American version (on DVD later, probably) as the sequel, "Day Watch" has set a new domestic box-office record here (something around 30 millions or even more by today, I guess) and it is TERRIFIC - even better than the first part :)

I saw it in the theater and generally enjoyed it.Reminded me a bit of HIGHLANDER and UNDERWORLD,but with a Russian vibe all of it's own.Kind of cryptic, but it held my interrest.

i enjoyed it, it's very cheesy, lots of characters yelling or screaming, not a lot of subtlety, but the CGI is impressive,
unlike a lot of movies the trailer is exactly like the film, so if you dig the trailer check it out

Hmm. I am a bit on the fence with this one. It has moments where it flirts with being really quite good, and it has moments where it flirts with Bollsville. I would have been happy had it fully committed to either one of those styles. However, despite really going for the Boll at the end, it didn't quite make it. Close but no cigar Night Watch.
That said, I was pretty entertained by the whole affair. It was visually interesting and there was a certain enthusiasm about the movie I liked. Hell, it's probably the best movie having anything remotely to do with vampires and/or the long epic supernatural battle between good blah blah blah and bad blah blah blah that I have seen in years (of course, that's not saying too much) so I guess I can't really complain. I will for sure check out the sequels when they become available.
In addition, the Russian language track has some pretty cool subtitles. They don't do a lot of tricks and they don't overuse the concept of subs as a part of the movie, so I really, really enjoyed that. It's the first time subtitles actually added to the film.

Wish I read this thread earlier in the dat. I just picked this up with Hills Have Eyes 2005 as a Best Buy special for both titles. They were 16.99 each and an instant $10 savings if you bought both, so I figured for 7 bucks...why not, but I am a bit put off based on the feedback and reviews. Oh well, Caveat Emptor.

Wow, more than half way through, and this thing is so disjointed, choppy, and kinda silly, it may take a second run through to try and fully understand it, but the frantic camera movements are annoying.

Ummmmm....so...I just bought this today as well, paying 16.99 for it. because of the way it was packaged at Circuit City, I wasn't able to see the stills on the back cover until I got it home fiddled with the sticker they had sealing the outer sleeve to the actual shrinkwrapped case. From the stills, it appears to be a cartoon...Is that true? Is this movie a cartoon? Cause if it IS, I am so taking it back. I would still rent it, but I prefer my cartoons to be humorous or of the Disney classic vein...I can't take animated horror seriously.

There are a few scenes where they show a horror video game, but no, it is not a cartoon.

I did the same. I would have spent a few bucks by renting it anyway. If I really enjoy it, it's a good deal. If I hate it, then I can always sell it right away at Hastings, and not lose anything in the process.
...and that Hills Have Eyes blood-pack sleeve looks killer!

Eh... I thought it was okay, but nothing too great. I don't really understand what all the praise was about really, the plot isn't really all that complex to grasp. Tarantino compared this to Lord of the Rings?!?? Some of the scenes are just funny as hell, probably unintentional. And I agree with many reviewers of the film, there are numerous minor plot holes in this one.
And the Star Wars comparisons I've heard are just...WTF??? Okay, I'll give it the "fluorescent stick" cameo (vaguely), but we might as well compare this with Deep Throat and Bambi while we're at it.
I should probably mention that I watched the Russian version, as I didn't want to wade through the English dubbed version. The Russian version has burned in subtitles that in someways help the movie since they fade out and move, and do other interesting things while on screen.
Sounds like I'll hold out on buying this bad boy until I can pick it up from a Wal-Mart bargain bin for five dollars and change.

hmmm, didnt like it, at all. It was extremely dry and hard to follow, with a couple 'oh thats cool' scenes, but not enough to make it memorable or in the realm of 'great'. There were some pretty cool visuals here and there but that was about it. Unfortunately the subtittles were the best part about it imo, and even those lost their appeal about 30 mins in. I think they literally used cuts from every 'cool' scene in trailer, and they all lasted about 10 minuets in an almost 2 hour borefest.

I thought it was alright. It should be noted that this movie was made for aprox $8 million in US money, so that explains the lack of big effects. The second movie has a higher budget and more action. Overall I thought it was a good start to the trilogy. If you look at it as the start of a trilogy and not a single movie you realize it isn't so bad especially with the small budget. I was amazed at how nice the effects were in this. The few that are there.

I actually thought this was alright. If you can get past all the stylized visuals and CGI, the story itself was decent and I liked the way it ended. For the 6.99 I spent on it, it was worthwhile.
